I use google maps most of the time, especially for ETA’s, but when I’m in a city on foot walking to a new destination then I prefer to use Apple Maps because it works flawlessly with my AW Ultra. Love the haptic feedback, Siri and clear visual directions. Great stuff.

I just switched to Apple after using android since the first smartphone. So far it’s been almost all positive with the exception of Maps. I enjoy the look and layout of the maps themselves, buI do not like the routing options or it’s lack of accuracy.

The biggest thing I look for in navigation software is location accuracy. If I put in an address that’s been established for over a decade I expect my GPS to be able to get with 200ft. Apple Maps has been off by up to a 1/4 mile. In the country that’s not too big of an issue, but in a city that’s ridiculous.

I only use apple maps in the car. are the best.
I turned on google yesterday and it offered me a route through a parking lot on the highway. as an alternative. I was supposed to drive into the parking lot and out of it. Epic. ;)

One of the problems with maps for me is when you start the route. The app is very slow and cannot find its orientation until you start driving, and then you realise you are driving in the wrong direction and I have to turn around. I don't understand why Aplple does not use the compass to help Maps find its start up orientation.
That wouldn't work when your phone is in your car laying flat in a random direction

Apple Maps is my go to map app since I got my iPhone in 2020. I do still use Google Maps but it's rare. Mostly because street view in Apple Maps isn't available everywhere yet.

Apple maps hasn't let me down yet and I've used it with CarPlay to travel all over the country and not got lost or took wrong turns lol. I just visited London for the first time last week and the walking/tube directions were great. The only thing that I could do with is offline directions because of course you lose signal underground. Maybe there is an option there for it and I missed it.

All the nerds who are complaining about apple maps haven’t given it an honest try in the past few years haha

Navigation is incredible; it’s so precise, intuitive, clear, and easy to hear. I often turn it on for my drive to and from work with reduced announcements so it can warn me about traffic and suggest faster routes

Google is without peer when it comes to business information (hours, ratings, reviews) but the second I gather all the info I need it’s back to apple maps to get me there

As of now I much prefer the traffic display for Google Maps over Apple and Waze. I want to see clearly in advance what I am driving into...is the road clear or is there a traffic jam 10 miles ahead on the highway? My commute was about 100 miles/day (rt) so seeing problems in a glance was done best with Google.

I have always used Apple Maps on my iPhone and have only been misled a couple times. I guess I’ve been lucky. I just really like the design and interface and it’s Siri turn-by-turn directions.

I find Google maps confusing when driving. The Apple map is much clearer and the directions for lane changes, exits way better. This is in Poland; my only gripe is that I wish it would pronounce Polish names better.

I switched from Google Maps to Apple Maps as navigation tool for driving in Germany about 6 months ago and I haven't looked back since. Nicer optics, precise predictions for time of arrival, way more "ear-friendly" announcement voices. And I really appreciate that Apple Maps "talks" less. Google sometimes drove me crazy with the lengthy messages that were repeated to or three times, sounded terribly and were quite often pronounced ridiculously wrong. I really like Apple Maps by now.
Using it in Germany for a long time. I had to use google maps due to Tesla and Apple Maps are actually better at plotting a route avoiding traffic jams. So i always double check on Apple Maps before agreeing to Tesla’s (google’s) routing. Only thing Apple Maps doesn’t have good is the satellite view (Not as detailed as googles), otherwise beats google maps hands down.

I’m no hater, but Apple maps still has a ways to go before matching Google maps accuracy & efficiency.
Hahaha. No. I used to live on Maui, google maps had the movie theatre located in the ocean, even after repeated reports, they never fixed it. Apple Maps had it located right where it was. Then there was the time google maps had me go through a dangerous section in San Francisco to get to my location. Nope, I get way more fails on google maps than Apple maps

Not saying any is perfect, but it comes down more to familiarity than actual performance. So why do haters make stuff up? Technically it’s because the emotional part of the brain is not capable of logic. Ever listened to someone on a rant? QED

Apple Maps is visually much more appealing than the cluttered Google Maps, and concerning navigation via public transport or car, it is on par with Google. However, Apple Maps lacks POIs (and I highly doubt that they will ever be able to close the gap with Google) and bike-based navigation, which is a huge issue in Europe.

Google Maps (and Waze) do the same thing on my phone.

I have my 14 Pro Max and almost all my apps set to dark mode to optimise my battery life for the OLED screen, and I like the look of dark mode as well, but the one thing I just can't come to terms with is using maps in dark mode. Somehow it makes my brain feel as if I'm lost at night and trying to read a paper map by torchlight even if I'm on a street in the middle of the day looking at the Maps app on my phone.

If only Apple would give me the ability to set Maps to use the light theme even though the global setting on my phone is dark mode then I would certainly give it a try but until that happens I'm afraid that I'm sticking with Google Maps which I can run in light mode.

I use Waze EXCLUSIVELY for navigation.

It's not perfect, but the interface is VERY simple, comparatively speaking.

But for me, the real killer feature is the way it notifies me of cops and speed traps ahead.

That feature alone has single-handedly saved me tens of thousands of dollars in speeding tickets. :p
It’s unbelievable how useful that feature has been. I also really enjoy the voices they add. I had terminator for a while, and now I use the calm meditative voice from Headspace. Definitely is a nice calming effect for otherwise monotonous drives!

Exactly this. Apple Maps as an app is way better than Google Maps. Google’s app all look and feel like garbage on iOS and I’d love to dump them if I could but the Apple Maps data is just straight up garbage compared to how much business data Google has. Frankly, I feel like I’d be giving up too much convenience even if I like the Apple app better.

Like any restaurant or POI that’s less than 6 months old likely won’t even make it onto Apple Maps data. And I live in Toronto which is one of the biggest cities in North America.

I hope in other countries Apple Maps is usable and accurate, but at least in Italy is totally and completely inaccurate!
I could pick any random point in my home town (but I tried with a few other cities, even big ones) and indicate business which simply don't exist at all (at the indicated point), or that have a completely wrong location, or inaccurate name or description etc...

If you ask Apple Maps to tell you the route to a specific address, it's probably still useful, but if you try to search for any business, at least 3 on 5 are wrong.

Haters?? Critics of apple maps had good reasons... especially in the first few years where it was trash.
Maybe, if you believe the word was used with the wrong meaning, that’s because they… meant something else from what you believe?
There were critics with very good reasons. But there also was a wave of hate by people who don’t even have iPhones who just can’t wait to say that Apple sucks and that kept going on after most big issues had been fixed.
You should be more careful when you read stuff.
