Until Apple Maps has street view, and Google Maps's accuracy, I'll keep using the latter.

Great to see Apple are continuing to add more data sources.

In the UK the Google maps aerial images for my town are at least 4 years out of date, street view images around a year. Lots of errors in POI too.

Apple's flyover and 3D images appear to be recent, and the POI has really improved (my reports have been acted upon).

Yelp has some pretty strict rules on how you can show their reviews. That could play into it. Yelp will allow you to display results in chronological order if you want to show results from multiple review providers, but otherwise, Yelp must own the top spot so if you want to highlight a featured review that would be most helpful, you're not allowed to do it if it means Yelp takes second billing.

https://www.yelp.com/developers/display_requirements

Then again, Booking.com and Tripadvisor may have some equally tight guidelines. I just don't know them as well.

I'm incredibly grateful Amsterdam finally managed to recover its Central Station, two years after Apple decided it didn't exist. Of course to this very day it's still completely unclear what the difference is between a metro (subway) station and a railway station, since both carry the same symbol. While other railway stations don't have a symbol, indicating them as such, at all.

Welcome news. Google maps only includes reviews from its own Google+ service which is very sparse. Nice to see Apple being more open in integrating info from other companies.

Been using it more recently after Google Maps sent me to the wrong place. Tried Apple maps and it nailed it. Much better looking as well.

So I'll know how good the hotel is when it directs me to the wrong one? Awesome

----------

I'm using it all the time.

I live in one of the top 10 biggest cities in the U.S., and Google maps is a mess. It puts my address down the street, it sends me to the wrong part of town for my work, and it tries to route you through the airport to get to the other side of town, which easily adds a half hour to your travel time.

Apple maps hardly ever steers me wrong. It's not as good at searching for POIs, but once it knows where's you're going, it's way better at giving directions than Google maps.

Is it soooo hard to say the city you live in. (One of top 10)lol

MacRumors;20933220One major improvement that appears to be in the works is street-level imagery similar to Google's Street View and Microsoft's Streetside for Bing Maps. Minivans [url="https://www.macrumors.com/2015/02/15/apple-van-palo-alto-video/" said:
outfitted with sensor arrays[/url] and apparently leased by Apple have been spotted in several areas around the United States, with the behavior of the vehicles on residential streets and in parking lots suggesting they are collecting street-level imagery.

Aren't these the same mini vans with sensors that got the whole electric car rumor going?

Apple Maps has been getting better recently. I'm basically down to using either it or Google Maps about 50/50.

I like Google Maps a bit better when there is a lot of traffic... seems to do better at routing around traffic problems. Also: I love how Google Maps shows you lane selection information.

All other times I tend to be using Apple Maps more and more. Siri integration is awesome ("I need to go home" or "I need directions to John's house") and I think the "3D" view is much smoother and easier to read than Google's implementation.

Anyway... choice is good. We're all winning while these guys compete!

For sure the siri integration makes Apple Maps my default map App. Also the fact that clicking any address in safari launches Apple Maps. Unless Apple gives me the choice to change my default Map app, I cannot see me using other apps more, even if they are better. Frankly, regardless of the arguments, Apple Maps is good enough and the convinience of the integration means I will use it more than anything else.

It's great to see Apple forging ahead with maps and making these improvements. But until :apple:Maps is on a par with Google, I'm just not going to use it. For some, this has already been achieved, but in Scotland they have a long way to go.

I'll check back in another 12 months.

I guess it depends on what it's in the top 10 for, could be population, murder levels, number of strip bars.................the list goes on and on. :)

Just give me an Apple Map that makes sensible searches. I put in a partial address yesterday while in New York City, and Apple Maps has me looking at addresses in other countries.

Apple needs to be "innovative" and make the maps app like waze then make it for apple users only. This would be so awesome. #

Apple maps has now updated the satellite images of my home town to colour photographs. It's a pity they decided to take a picture on a foggy day, but it's still an improvement, I guess.

I think this is a good start with a lot of potential but I think Apple still half assed this TripAdvisor/Booking.com integration. First of all, when it comes to hotel listings for instance, all three review services should have their photos and reviews listed. Second, when I look at Burj Al Arab in Dubai for instance, it now has reviews and photos from Booking.com, but no street name from Booking.com. Also, it seems like this is just for hotels. At least when I looked I didn’t see any reviews/photos for attractions and restaurants from TripAdvisor (please point out to me if you notice otherwise). Lastly, where’s Urbanspoon/Zomato integration for restaurants?!

P.S. I’m noticing the new integration myself on the latest beta of iOS 8.3. Is that where the above screenshots are from or are the TripAdvisor/Booking.com integration also in 8.2?

Apple Maps has improved SIGNIFICANTLY over the last couple of years and it's pretty much on par with the google maps in terms of accuracy. In fact, when i'm in my car, I use Apple Maps for the turn by turn directions INSTEAD of the built-in GPS in my car. I've used it in MANY cities when I did a cross country travel couple of months ago. I have not had any problems.

The main reason I use the Apple Maps is the integration with the iOS, OS X and Safari.

Please forgive my ignorance, but I've only used Apple maps on my iPhone's. What do you mean when you refer to integration? Can I use it on one and pick it up on another or something? Sorry for the noob question

I'd criticize Apple for not being able to even get me top the local Apple store, but Google maps couldn't get me there either.

I still prefer Google maps, though. I like its ability to tell me which lane to be in when making turns.

There's just some things Google does well: maps and search. But then, they've been doing both since the 90s.

Ok I guess...would be nice if Apple added POI to their maps in my country; as it stands you can search for practically anything (banks, restaurants, stores, etc) and you can't find it. If you are using Foursquare (for examples) and you tell the app to use Apple Maps for driving directions it says that it cannot determine the location or something along those lines. By contrast Google Maps has practically every POI and you can search for them and get the expected results and using it from Foursquare works as expected.

I don't think I have ever opened the app on my iPhone 6 lol I am just too used to Google maps and street view is also important

Cool. I still find Google Maps to be so much better and more useful. I'm glad Apple Maps is improving but are people really using it? I'm definitely not.

Yes. It's default on every iPhone and iPad. Lots of people don't run into inaccurate data, so don't have any reason to look for alternate maps apps.

There is a maps app on the Mac, too. By Safari integration, I assume he's referring to finding an address on a website, and opening it in Apple Maps.

Just posted this on AI as well...
I live in NYC but I've been in Florida, the Orlando are for the past few days and have been using Apple Maps to get around, a lot. I have to say it's for me anyway, it's been amazing. I've been able to get around easily, turn by turn directions have been highly accurate. I hate leaving NYC so this is the first time in all these years Ive had the chance to really use it, and t's been great!
