But nothing beats google for traffic reports.
I realize I'm taking this statement out of context of your original statement, but I respectfully disagree. Apple and Google both use Sigalert here in the US, and I know that Google incorporates the often-woefully-inaccurate Waze (which I use, with a metaphoric grain of salt). There's two suppliers of traffic data here in the US - Sigalert and INRIX. I use the free INRIX app and check it against camera feeds of real-time traffic (camera feeds are supplied in the app, just like in the ad-ridden Sigalert app).
I'm pointing out your comment only because both Apple and Google use the same data - they can't "beat" each other. I've been notifying both companies of reporting errors for over 2-1/2 years (supplied by Sigalert), and neither company seems to give a rat's ass about accuracy. I can demonstrate errors both provided today, in exactly the same place - and I've griped about it on these forums going back about a year or so.
Check out one State Route in Washington - State Route 4, between Longview WA and Naselle WA. There's no Apple, Google, or Sigalert data - but there's a current INRIX feed. I can pick out dozens of routes that are like this - no Sigalert/Google/Apple data but there's INRIX reporting. Some of my clients are near or on those Google/Apple-free roads...
I was on two business trips just last week - there were accidents, but no Waze/Google/Apple/Sigalert reports to be found, but the free INRIX app warned me of incidents and I took a different route.
I'm not picking nits with you - just a suggestion to broaden your horizons...
Google's/Apple's/TomTom's/Nokia's traffic data is not very accurate in the US and offers generally the same data - which they all get from companies from Sigalert (Clear Channel), who, in turn, get most of their data from DOTs - several of which I count amongst my clients. No offense intended - I've been in several of those traffic reporting/aggregating rooms for 10+ years, and I'd guess you haven't - if you have, then maybe we've met... FWIW, Sigalert's customer service is about the worst on the face of this planet that I've encountered in my industry. I wish more of the maps entities used alternatives for traffic data.
