I like the way Macrumors is describing the whereabouts of Solihull 'Solihull, England, approximately two hours northwest of London'. Is that 2 hours to walk, fly, cycle or drive? Also it would be easier to imagine by saying ‘it is just 14.5 km southeast of Birmingham'.

Why are the apple maps graphics to much uglier than the google ones? When are they going to make the map app not look like a treasure map from 1540?

What Apple uses are much bigger cars than what Google uses, more expensive and use more gas.

It's been good news all the time for us in the UK. Google Maps has proven to be light years ahead of any other mapping service on the planet. There's nothing Apple can do to surpass the Google Maps experience. The best Apple can hope for is to improve the hapless in-house Mapping app.

How can you possibly say that?

Dude, if Apple Maps DID look like ancient treasure maps, THAT WOULDMBE AWESOME! That's the kind of fun thing Google would be more likely to do though...

Of course they mean driving. In the USA there are no other transport options, really. And nobody has any idea what a "km" is.

Lookie, lookie!

Our hard earned Apple tax dollars going towards the purchase of fancy cars.:mad::rolleyes:

What happens if an Apple Maps van takes a picture of a Google Street View car? :eek:o_O

I've seen both all over the Los Angeles area.

or 20 minutes southeast of Birmingham. Why does the whole of the UK have be referenced from London??

Because it's the capital of England, the largest and most important city in the UK by far, and the only UK one that people have heard of worldwide.

It's also easy to pinpoint on a map. Most wouldn't know where to start with Birmingham; somewhere vaguely in the middle.

I'm surprised that anyone whose goal is to match/improve on Street View isn't compelled to quit whenever they pause for a minute and contemplate what they're up against.

I find Google's attempt disappointing. It's so clunky to use, and the photos are so hit and miss. I'm quite sure that Apple's will be superior.

In my travelling experience people have almost always heard of Oxford, Cambridge, Manchester and probably Edinburgh...

Hi,

I've just seen an Apple Maps van in the car park of the office that I work which is near Birmingham International Airport in the UK.

Hopefully we will see more accurate mapping soon.

Good news.

That's your opinion. At least Apple colour motorways in blue like they should be, unlike Google who even after 10 years still insist on colouring them in orange.
