Are they? How so?

That's the thing, Apple isn't; it's the community that is doing the heavy lifting. Which is EXACTLY what I was referring to in my first post here.

They connect with the community through various ways of advertisement and appeal that makes things like this happen.

Word of mouth, every podcast talked about it for half an hour, stickie notes on the Apple stores, etc.

It was a very sad thing to happen, but people just keep bringing it up and pouring into it like it means something now.

Personally, I'm the type of person to feel bad if I "should", say what I need to say, and then move on.

To continuously talk about Jobs dying weeks or so after it happened is just, dare I say it, wasted energy. You can talk about all the things he did, but 90 percent of what I'm hearing across the internet and various podcasts is regurgitated.

Regurgitated. That's it. Nobody knew the guy but people feel like they did. You can only say so much.

People need to move on. But then again, aside from the 4S (which was somewhat of a letdown), what else can the Apple community talk about?

That's right, nothing. Aside from rumors and speculation about the next bumps in desktop hardware, which aren't going to happen until Ivy Bridge; significant ones I mean.

I think I speak for more than just myself here when I say that you don't like apple being criticized and are trying to use my spelling error as their defence.

When you criticize someone, if you want to be taken seriosuly, don't find a spelling mistake in their post and use that as the sole basis of your argument, its just embarrassing.

It may work for the weaker minded, but for me it stands out a mile every time I hear it.

Are you saying Jedi mind tricks don't work in you, Jabba?

I know, how dare a corporation try to sell their products, damn free market capitalism.

Oh and I forgot to add, it's just going to happen all over again, but next time longer and more intense, when the biography comes out.

Everybody and their mom will read it and talk about it; of course agreeing with everything in the book.

That's when I predict this site implodes in biasm(is this a word?) and stupidity.

lol, point missed, they can do it, I'm taking the piss out of the people who blindly fall for apples marketing.

I couldn't care less if you criticize Apple. I do it myself. And if your criticism is valid, I'm right there with you. Unfortunately for you in this case, it's not, as evidenced by the majority of replies you've received.

But I do take exception to the butchering of the English language by people who are trying to make a point about its misuse. Your post doesn't have just one spelling mistake BTW. It has no less than a half dozen grammatical and punctuation errors.

Maybe stick to a topic you know.

Someones spelling and grammar does not detract from their point, even if thats the only argulemt you can find against them. Even if someone with the most awful spelling points out a fault with someones use of language, if its a valid point, its a valid point.

I'm more bothered by how Apple's Marketing department is trying it's damnedest to elevate Steve Jobs to god-like status and how the fanboys are more than happy falling all over themselves to oblige. It's leaving a bad taste in my mouth for the whole Apple' experience'. He's not Martin Luther King for god's sake.

Simple solution: don't buy Apple products.

Problem Solved. Next.

Calling it 'iPhone' refers to the brand, whereas 'an iPhone' is an example of a device from this brand.

Just like how you say, "Does that run on Mac?" (referring to the brand/platform) and "Will it run on a Mac?" (referring to a computer from the Mac range).

It's really not that hard to understand and it's certainly not 'nonsense'.

The OP is a case study of what I hate most about internet forums. Yeesh, this guy is basically saying "this is my opinion, and if you disagree, its because you've been suckered, which only validates my opinion MORE". What a tool.

OP...have you posted your concerns on The Facebook. Ummm...errrrrr...I mean Facebook (see how they dropped the "The", it's cleaner). :D

Trust me, someone's spelling and grammar CAN detract from their point. As a part of my regular job, I often evaluate all sorts of documents written by others, usually because they are, shall we say, in a bit of trouble. Those who present themselves well in writing typically do just as well in person. Those that don't...well, you don't want to know what usually happens to them.

PS - I am also an adjunct prof. Don't ever take one of my classes with that attitude. I promise your chances of making an "A" are absolutely ZERO.

But that is no worse, and probably much less annoying, than the fanboys who think Apple can do no wrong (like the 12 years olds who run MacDailyNews). Apple has some of the most savvy marketing people out there. Whatever they are doing is working superbly.

I'm not sure what the point of this thread is. Marketing is marketing. Every company does it, so I'm not sure what the point is about calling Apple out on it. No, I'm not a fanboy (oh how I hate that term)...I just don't see a point in calling one company out for something that pretty much every company does. They try to connect with you on whatever level they can, to encourage you to purchase a product.

I'm sure some people humanize their iPhone a little, but I don't think it's because of Apple's marketing. Take a look at cars...lots of people give their cars names. Musical instruments...people regularly name those, too. People tend to humanize the objects that are important to them, regardless of how they're referred to by the company that makes them.

Perhaps, but in this case, your point has been shown to be your opinion only, not shared by many, and certainly not validated as a "valid point", as much as you'd like to cling to it.

DROID DOES... android is stupid, should be "THE DROID DOES". Oops.. i mean THE android operating system...

Are you seriosuly trying to suggest they don't do what I've stated in the origanal post...

I think the highlighted term in the misspelling above goes a long way in answered your original question iPad3. ;)

I have found myself calling it 'iPhone' when I sign its praises to friends who haven't experienced Apple products or smart phones for example. I am talking about the entire iPhone ecosystem. When I am referring to the individual phone, I will use the/an before.

There are much bigger fish to fry. :)

I think I speak for more than just myself here when I say that you don't like apple being criticized and are trying to use my spelling error as their defence.

BTW thats not a SPELLING ERROR... That is a GRAMMATICAL ERROR... When you don't even know the difference between the two I think you should stop criticising any one else's use of language...

He also moaned about my spelling, please read.

One of those things that annoys me (but maybe shouldn't), people who get so taken in by apples marketing they refer to products like they are a human, rather than calling it "the iphone" they just say "iphone", as in.

"with iphone you can..."

it makes no sense, its with THE iphone.

The iphone isnt human.

They do this will all there products, just look on their site, listen to the steve jobbs key notes, they always refer to them this was, dont get sucked in by it.

I know this will get down voted to death because a lot of you on here do it, and it will annoy you being told to stop and having it pointed out to you that you have been taken in by marketing, :D

because (an/the) ipad brings the usability...
(an) imac will enhance your workflow...

etc. etc.

Funny, I hear people saying:

"With Android..."
"With Dell..."
"With Audi cars..."

Also, who says the subject in question has you be human? What about pet names? You obviously have not been educated on proper grammar. Lastly, you have too much time on your hands to register just to troll. And, we wonder why our world is in trouble
