Ultimately, simply being beautiful and sleek wasn’t enough of a selling point. If they want to turn the Air into a high-end trade-off phone, they need to put a silicon carbide battery in it and add an ultrawide camera. Then it would be an attractive alternative to the Pro for a meaningful subset of users.
I don’t think it’s a loss for Apple they created a perfect use case for old tech like usb2 chips and mono speakers that were collecting dust somewhere in China.

It's ever so slightly cheaper on the Irish version of Amazon. There's currently a 32 per cent discount bringing a 256Gb sky blue handset to €838, reduced from €1239 from Apple.ie

I think normal consumers are too conditioned and happy with the line they have to be looking for this kind of novelty.

I fear the foldable may meet a similar fate.

I agree. I think the folding phone is a fad that will either take a small share of the market or make it a maximum of 2 product cycles before Apple abandons it for lack of interest.

I'm sure a select group of people are waiting in the wings with baited breath for the folding iPhone with the bigger screen and all that. But most people aren't terribly interested in it. I think the color palete sells more phones.

The Air, and whatever the folding iPhone will be called are gimmicks. They generate a lot of buzz on the tech web sites and amongst a hyper interested/loyal subset of users. But most people are either looking at the regular Iphone, the Max, or the Pro version of either, depending on how you use the phone.

I skipped my yearly upgrade this year. I don't need a phone every year, but it's one of the few ways I "treat" myself. This year put me in a situation where I wasn't able to order on launch day and the shipping times slipped until December. At that point I decided to just hold on to what I have and hit the next cycle. I'm not going to upgrade now when a new phone is due out in little more than 6 months.

The price in the UK was very expensive compared to the USA and the 20% VAT (sales tax) was only part of the reason.

In nominal exchange rates the £999 price is $1,338 and at purchasing power parity exchange rates $1,513.

Take away the VAT and the price is £832 or at nominal exchange rates is $1,115 and purchasing power parity exchange rates $1,261.

Basically, the deeply disounted £699 retail price aligns to the US $999 price in states with no sales tax, though to Apple the pretax price is only $780.
I was told there would be no maths

Such as shame they did not release a 6.1" version of the iphone air. Would have been lighter than the 13 mini.

I would have been all over it.

After a lot of testing, I've learned that my main criteria on all the new larger phones is "width".

A little narrower than the iPhone 17 and I can mostly deal with the other size issues.

(don't get me wrong, I don't actually WANT anything larger than the 13 mini)

Yet another example of Amazon's disdain for good design — can't even order the storage sizes correctly! Can just imagine the dev writing code to put the numbers in ascending order, with no thought as to whether it's GB or TB. Sigh.

£699 though for the Black. Might grab one just to add to my iphone collection before the Air is gone forever. Played with it again in the Apple store few days ago, its beautiful but flawed but at that price its a good deal for sure.
Why lol. Why not donate the money to charity?

Yes you are absolutely right, its just FOMO really. I was sort of thinking out loud, but in reality the money will be used to buy my MBA M5 which is currently in my Amazon UK basket. If the iPhone Air drops even more to £599 then we are talking lol.

Hold on, wasn’t there a recent article that the iPhone Air sold much better than the iPhone Plus. Am I missing something.
No, but that doesn’t mean it’s selling well as the iPhone plus had extremely poor sales. This could be just a bit less lacklustre numbers but still bad. Personally I haven’t seen a single one out in the wild but of course that’s just anecdotal

Well I absolutley love my Air. But the price they've dropped it to is not far off what it should have been to begin with. I had second thoughts about buying one because when it was revealed it had no second camera. But I've not missed it that much. I'd be happy to keep this phone for another year probably.

Yep. Best phone I've had since iPhone X. My wife has the 17 Pro and every time I pick hers up I realize how great the Air is. Battery, single camera and single speaker have been non-issues.

It is a product for a minority. There has been so many reviews of apple products has there been over the last 15 years saying there is no need for it to be this thin, give us more battery for a thickness increase. Yet they wont listen. So I am not at all surprised about this.

Although I am a day 1 customer, and this discount negatively impacts my future trade-in value,

I am, on the other hand, happy for future customers who are going to find out what they missed out on. This is by far the best iPhone I have owned since the iPhone X.

I highly recommend it for this price; it beats everything on the market.
It definitely beats everything else in terms of being the most expensive phone with a single camera or the only one with poorer battery life than an OG iPhone 😂

It's not the battery or the camera.

For me it clearly was the camera. I‘ve got a 13 Pro Max (with 512GB of storage, of which I‘m using less than half). It‘s still in ok shape as I got a 1:1 replacement through insurance coverage after dropping its predecessor two and a half years ago.

I want to go more compact or at least more light weight, so I checked out the Air once it was in store. I would have been ok with all specs – except for the camera. I‘ll wait to check out the Fold. Or maybe even stick to my 13PM for another year to see whether the Air 2 will actually make it to the market.
