Is this just a pie in the sky wish list or something you think might actually happen? Because if you think they’re going to make a cellular enabled iPod touch you are truely living in a fantasy world.

I don’t understand why you don’t just buy an iPhone based on your wish list?

Yup, just a wishlist. I don't expect it to happen :)

Apple could have a 7th-generation iPod touch in the works, according to new information shared today by Japanese site Mac Otakara.

Several suppliers at CES 2019 reportedly told Mac Otakara that a 7th-generation iPod touch "might" be in development as a replacement for the 6th-generation version.

The site did not provide details on when an updated iPod touch might launch, nor what features it might include.

Apple last updated the hardware in the iPod touch in July 2015, introducing an A8 chip, an 8-megapixel rear camera, and six color options.

The iPod touch lineup was last tweaked in July 2017 when Apple streamlined the available capacity options (32 and 128GB) and introduced new pricing tiers. Right now, the iPod touch costs $199 for the 32GB version and $299 for the 128GB version, with the higher-capacity model's pricing not too far off from the $329 9.7-inch iPad.

With the iPod shuffle and iPod nano having been discontinued in 2017, Apple's plans for the iPod touch and the iPod family in general have been unclear.

The iPod has seemed to be on its last legs as Apple customers shift to other devices like the iPhone and the iPad, but it's not out of the question that the iPod touch could be updated with more modern hardware like an improved rear camera and a faster A-series chip.

Mac Otakara's report also suggests that the next-generation iPhone coming in 2019 could potentially include a USB-C port. According to "those who are working on it," though, it has not reached a design reference step and whether or not the new iPhones will use USB-C over Lightning is not yet fully established.

This is not the first time we've heard that USB-C could be a feature included in the 2019 iPhone lineup. Atherton Research analyst Jean Baptiste Su recently said that he believes Apple will transition away from Lightning, introducing a USB-C port for the iPhone like it did on the 2018 iPad Pro models.

DigiTimes has also suggested in a vaguely worded report that 2019 iPhones could feature USB-C ports instead of Lightning ports, though it was difficult to tell if it was referring to the ports or a USB-C to Lightning cable for the iPhones.

A swap to USB-C from Lightning has been rumored for years, but the fact that Apple made the transition in the iPad Pro lends more credence to new rumors suggesting the same transition for the 2019 iPhones.

Options of old stuff? How about some new innovation for a change ;-)

If the engineers are so bad and out of ideas that they are bringing back and obsolete product Apple's future is looking really bad.
Why exactly can they not release a new iPod touch while innovating on something else? They didn't pull everyone from other stuff just to update the iPod touch.

I can tell you aren't in the segment who needs these but I am. My niece and nephew have an older iPod touch with dying batteries and I'm not replacing the battery on something that is so slow and can't run iOS 12 but I'm not buying a product that hasn't been updated since 2015. They aren't getting phones until they're in high school and get a part-time job to pay for it.

Yeah but how would that Starbucks connect those Qi chargers under the table?

USB is required for connecting a Qi charger.

No, it’s not. Qi chargers can be hardwired into tables, as they are at airports, train stations, coffee shops and other public venues that have started to include them as a part of their furniture.

The point is, there’s less and less of a reason to carry around a USB/Lightning cable since Qi rollout is happening so quickly, far faster than USB-C adoption.

All I hope is that Apple FINALLY is fixing hi-res audio stores by upgrading music from 44.1kHz audio which was state of the art in the early 80s and giving us lossy hi-res audio at 96kHz/24-bit..... and while I probably doubt it, I would switch back to Apple if they gave us iTunes with hi-res audio and iTunes Match HD to convert all my music to hi-res much like what they did with iTunes Match that gives me a cloud copy and a better encoded version at 256kbps.

With everyone saying this new 'iPod" will not have touch ID or face ID, an iPod Classic doesn't have either.... :) Yes, I know it's a long shot, but I still hope they finally upgrade the Classic and give us 1TB of storage (or 2TB !) and HD video playback w/ hi-res audio.

Apple said, switch to USB-C for all your MacBook Pro connections 2 years ago to me. SO how come my iPhone XS Max has "legacy" ports. I love how Apple can in one sentence call all other connections legacy but they are still very much part of their flagship products in another category. I only buy USB-C connected devices, yet Apple forces me into dongles for my iPhone lol what a joke and no wonder they are having so many problems..

Macs have never had Lightning ports. So it’s never been a “legacy” port for the Mac, thus not a Legacy port for an XS Max.

Please make it a 1TB SSD with 10+ hour battery life... I’ll be a happy boy and can replace my FiiO x5.

I would argue that Lightening is just USB with a proprietary form factor. It’s very much a legacy port, and worse, it’s proprietary.

If Apple does indeed update the ipod touch, they should market it not as a music device, but as a photography device. Give it an insane camera. Something that even rivals the iphone camera. Give it like 3 or more lenses. Seriously. Most people stream music now. So an ipod in the music storing sense is kind of outdated. But photography is another thing altogether. I really think it could be a great way to market it.

Of course this probably wont happen. If they update it, it will be an entry device for kids who are too young for an iphone. But i dunno. My neice & nephew are like 10 & 12 and have iphones. I think parents want to keep in touch with their kids.

I'm with you on that one, but I would do would be to make the entire back plate a camera sensor/lens, with insane image quality, of which then the photo would be cropped from what could be seen, similar to Cannon's concept from 2010: http://www.letsgodigital.org/en/27448/slr-camera-concept/

So if they can upgrade the iPod touch then why can't they upgrade the SE?
I know what you mean. A lot do.

An even better dream would be completely wireless, no cables necessary at all.

The iPhone will probably not switch connectors, but remove them completely for a fully wireless mobile experience. You’ll still only need one cable for your MBP and iPP. The same cable will also plug into your Qi charging case, or stand/pad.

Yes, I think removing ports and buttons is key to being fully water resistant. Opening the iDevice for service would mean cracking the outer coating, but it could simply be reapplied with an automated process, something fully sealed and wireless, like we all want.

That makes no sense, why would they spend money on a cheap iPod touch when there are android alternatives that have actual cellular capabilities for the same price? People need to understand that Indians do not value Apple as a brand the way we do.

Indian girls are pretty, now think about the choice.
