Why do you assume there will be commercials? Ted Lasso doesn’t have them. Unless you count product placement.

If the games are not exclusive to AppleTV+ then the other broadcaster would likely have computers.

Timeouts are controlled are controlled by the umpires, I think. Broadcasters have no control over them.

Although duration is adjusted for TV.

Apple could've taken the outside route like they often do and helped to build something themselves.

Buying a stake in the XFL is a bet I think is worth taking. The simplified rules and faster action of the latest season, had me, someone who could never get into NFL, watching and growing into a fan. The XFL was picking up steam and getting great reviews and a buzz of NFL players rumoured to be making the switch, then it got knocked out by the pandemic shutdown forcing it out just as it was picking up momentum.

Having Apple as a technology partner would be great. It would also be a cheap acquisition.
Hahaha not a chance in he11 that league or any other can or will compete with the nfl. Laughable to insinuate anyone but backups would switch either. For what that league will be done soon. Just like the rest. Can’t match production, talent and won’t draw bodies in the seats. Nowhere near the talent level now or 5 years from now.

While initially excited about this, I’ll still probably just watch on Gamepass. Other than spoilers from playing fantasy football, I prefer watching on my schedule and don’t care necessarily that it’s live. If the game’s on at noon, halfway through the first quarter, I’m thinking about getting a beer. Next thing you know, you’re drinking all day. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, but maybe not every weekend.

Go Pack!

Commercials during live sporting events are pretty much where all the money is on TV advertising now days. I would be amazed if they didn't have commercials during the games.

Now days they even go so far as to place green screens around the stadiums to they can show static adds on TV over top of them whenever they are on screen. Some stadiums I think are even set up so they don't have to be green screens, they can be actual ads showing in the stadium for one thing, and the people watching on TV at home see a completely different ad in the same location. See this website for examples.

Er, um… huh???

commercials. I hate autocorrect.

While the officials do call the time-outs, in most leagues they have rules on how often, or there are certain times when they must happen. So even if no team calls a time out, or there are no injuries, etc, there can still be time-outs called by the referees to meet the requirements.

Of course. My point was, in response to how Apple could improve broadcasts, is to get rid of commercials and required breaks for them.

The right phrase should be "Meanwhile in the rest of the world", no one cares about NFL :-D
Nevertheless, I feel happy that Apple could be the company that has the rights to broadcast this cultural rooted US important sport and add more value to the viewers

No commercials for starters; and filling the space with highlights of other games, etc. Show the entire halftime show. If they are the sole broadcaster, no TV timeouts.
Apple TV can NEVER be the 'sole broadcaster', same as Amazon Prime or ESPN or any cable or streaming platform.

For fans watching in their hometown, the game MUST be broadcast over the air (at no cost) to those fans according to United States laws.

Apple isn't broadcasting anything new by getting the rights to the NFL Sunday Ticket. All they are really doing is getting the rights to re-broadcast all the games from CBS and FOX to viewers who wouldn't normally get those games. They don't control the game feeds at all, nor do they have cameras to show any other action. This is the responsibility of CBS and FOX.

What law are you referring to? The NFL requires OTA broadcasting for home games that re on cable and not subject to blackout; if yu are refering to taht the NFL could change its rules.

Correct. My point was how much would Apple Pay for exclusivity?

There are no home blackouts anymore. They changed that law back in 2015. ALL games, whether home or away, are now broadcast in the local market.

I think the Sports Broadcasting Act of 1961 is the law that requires the NFL to broadcast all local market games over the air. This also prohibits the NFL from Friday and Saturday games September - early December. The NFL can't just change it's rules. The United States Government created these laws so that the NFL is exempt from Monopoly anti-trust laws.

When I looked at it id did not require broadcast OTA, it did prevent competing games from being broadcast in the market if the home game not sold out. OTA broadcasting is covered by teh contracts with networks, and the NFL wants them OTA to make money.

The NFL got around the high school/collegiate game competition blackout by expanding its season, so it can if it gets creative.
