Not sure if I should hold out for the revision. My 2012 Retina MBP had issues with image retention. Eventually it got bad enough that Apple replaced it. Furthermore, my late 2012 work iMac exhibits some image retention as well. The other thing is that it seems like it's barely capable of running that screen sometimes. The UI can get fairly laggy—especially when switching spaces. I worry about this iMac being able to push such a high-resolution display at a reasonable performance level with only two years of advancement in graphics (although it is a desktop).

Very surprised about these AMD rumours. The new GTX970 and 980 are incredibly powerful and power efficient. Still hoping they would go NVIDIA way, unless AMD has something new up their sleeves.

Agreed. AMD are always playing catch up to Intel/nvidia... will be rather disappointed if they go with them.
I was really considering the next iMac to replace my 2010 27"... That was until I saw LGs 34" ultra wide in person... Then they make a curve in which reviews are glowing. Might have to get a mbp now instead

Am I the only one who thinks this isn't a good idea? Cramming double the resolution into the same size screen? My eyes aren't getting any younger, and while I can increase the font size etc. why should I have to?

At a certain point such high resolutions don't make sense without a corresponding increase in monitor size.

Have you been sleeping in the last few years? The size of the UI elements won't change at all, only the pixel density gets quadruplicated, which is actually very good for your eyes.

Well if this is indeed going to happen, there will be a "Best for Retina" option with basically the exact same font size and icon size you have now, just sharper as its more pixels and further options for those who wish to have more screen real estate. Similar to the rMBPs.

Switching to AMD graphics as soon as nVidia releases extremely efficient 900m series??
Either the rumor source is idiotic or Apple is..

4K+ "Retina" Screen YES!!! :D
i7 4790K 4Ghz Option YES!!!!! :D
AMD GPU ......WTF!?

I don't think I've ever been so simultaneously excited and disappointed by a rumour....

The above specs knock two out of my three wishes for the next iMac out of the park...

But.... Has Apple SEEN what Nvidia's 900 series is capable of?

Assuming the leaked benchmarks for the 980M floating around the web so far are true, this thing blows away the 780M in the current iMac as well as anything AMD offers in a mobile form factor (hell its right up there with some of the best of what AMD offers in a single card desktop form factor).

Either AMD and Apple have a serious ace up their sleeve or Apple just decided to kneecap their brand new (still unannounced) Retina iMac.

Or of course this could all just be made up BS as so many rumours are... :)

I'm thinking that the AMD GPU's in the Mac Pro have been very successful. Anyone even remember a problem being reported here on MacRumors?

Of course that's workstation graphics, not gaming.

I think this is people remembering the time when you needed CUDA to accelerate programs like Premiere and Resolve.

Even the most power GPUs will stutter from the lack of optimization. I would wait until at least the next generation.

Keep in mind, Nvidia is changing architecture with the new 900 series, so Apple may want to wait and see how that works out.

AMD graphics? surly the lower power and lower heat of the Nvidia would have been much better option, the 27"models get so hot!

Ebay is littered with blown 27" iMac's because of overheating, I know cos I have one!! only way I can start it is with a PRAM reset.

I expect this was made before Nvidia lowered their prices however.

I know everyone's gaga for "retina" displays, but I really hope that IF this is true I can still get a new NON-retina 27".

For editing at the pixel level, retina is wonky and Apple's display prefs suck. I want the old option back to scale the display based on actual physical pixel resolutions, not "A little bigger/smaller please".
