My personal favorite iPad of all time is still the OG iPad Pro 9.7”

That was my first personal iPad. I then got the M1 Pro and upgraded that to my current M4 Pro 11", despite wanting better battery life not much else I want in it myself, I always say the screen is stunning because it is lol. For my birthday this weekend I am getting an Apple Watch Ultra 3, but beyond that this year for me is all about new monitors and changing my MacBook Pro for a Mac Studio, change my desk setup a bit, oh and add new speakers too I think.

I mean, in terms of physical design, what on earth does it need? The last two generations of physical design are already great, have faced, great screens and speakers.

I’d like more ram in the lower end models but the don’t need to redesign the exterior for that. MagSafe charging but they won’t do that probably.

Like “we kinda perfected this years ago so won’t be randomly changing it a ton but will keep the hardware cutting edge” doesn’t actually sound bad in the slightest.

Better aspect ratio, better battery life, better mic quality (noise suppression please), better night time/low light handling during video calls.
Please

My M4 iPad Pro 2TB nano screen has the same single core speed as my 16" M4 Max MacBook Pro and 15" M4 Mac Book Air. It does what I wanted it to do for me.

More speed is not necessary and the Apple keyboard works well. No interest in any future changes for many years to come. Plus, like all of my Apple gear, it was paid for in full at time of purchase so no monthly payments.

I have an iPad Pro, but I also have a Samsung 14.5" tablet with that great aspect ratio. It's great for media consumption. Never had an issue with it.
I have the ipad pro m5 11 inch. My anecdotal opinion is I don’t need a portable media consumption device. I have plenty of places in my home to consume media, much better than a tablet. I need an good all-aroun device. iPad is the best, full stop.

And the 11 inch is small enough that I can use it comfortably. Don’t even need anti-reflective coating.

I really hope I can get an iPad with a notch or Dynamic Notchland. Tim Cook is wonderful!
[/sarcasm]

Seriously though, Tim Cook likes going for long periods of time without an update while still charging the same prices as on release day. It’s part of his greedy strategy to maximize profits by giving consumers less for their money.
The ironic thing is people pay those prices and buy the products. Apple keeps on winning.

I hope the iPad Mini will get major upgrades. Maybe even an iPad Mini Pro.

I got the iPad Mini 7 and it's been a great travel device other than the RAM is still too little. I don't like how background Safari tabs keep getting killed off causing them to reload and lose their last state. Pretty annoying. Too bad about the news of RAM prices skyrocketing.

Hopefully the rumors of iOS/iPadOS 27 focusing on code cleanup includes improved memory management.

There isn’t much more that can be done. I recently upgraded from the Air 4 to the M5, and it’s amazing - thin, powerful, and the screen is incredible. Outside of the typical "spec" bumps we’ll see with the M6 or M7, I can't see what else could be improved. On the iPhone, you at least get camera upgrades, but you don't really need those here. I'm good for the next 5-6 years (again).

This seems like a probably okay allocation of dev resources, given the current iPadOS state of affairs. Like, the current iPad Pro is insanely overpowered for what iPadOS lets you do, right? Do any of you feel like you’re maxing out the hardware capability? Admittedly my wife and I just use ours for content consumption, but her 2018 Pro is still butter smooth… (mine died so I have an M3 Air… I do miss FaceID.)

And an honest question for the “Must have Thinner Bezels!” folks: How are y’all holding your iPads? Your fingers need to grip *someplace*, right? Or are you using them on stands and paired with keyboards so you don’t actually hold the iPad? Just curious. No snark intended.

Honestly not sure what a ‘major’ upgrade would give? I certainly wouldn’t want any thinner borders. I already catch the screen sometimes handling the current version.
Really not sure what would be a ‘must have’ upgrade currently?

A folding iphone wouldn’t really compete with the iPad Pro either, as it would be way smaller, or a massive phone, and a touchscreen Mac wouldn’t have the lightness or ease of use.

I'm not surprised by this report. If you want that screen size, I feel like the iPad Pro is the peak of its current form factor. I WISH that I could justify buying a 11" iPad Pro. I want that screen. I want that ultrathin form factor. But I just don't have a use for it in my work flow. 11" is too big for what I use a tablet for. And a laptop with full macOS (M4 Macbook Air) is still so much better for productivity. Every time I try to make an iPad do part of my laptop workflow, I realize after a couple months that I'm more productive just using my laptop.

If apple wants to release a 8-9" iPad mini Pro in the future, I would instantly buy it. I don't need a wonderful laptop replacement because Apple's laptops are too good. But a better TABLET that is positioned as only a tablet is something I would happily pay good money for.

I didn't noticed any difference. The hardware is the same across all devices (incl. even older iPhone). There is not much upgrades there, but just the assembly and how big the gap is between the modules.

LOL...the headline says "upgrade", then the body text says "update" and "redesign". Those aren't the same things.
