I'm not saying throw money at it. I'm saying hire people who can solve the problem. The fact that they're on a huge hiring binge shows they know they need more people.

There is a difference between throwing money at something and hiring more people.

Sounds about right.

Chemistry isn't really Apple's wheelhouse. They struggle with decent anodization. I'll wait with bated breath for industry reshaping battery technology from Apple.

Yes, let's make fun of a guy for putting on weight. That will surely make our arguments have more merit.

Who said I'm trying to make an argument for merit? I'm simply poking fun, which I'm allowed to do. Now go console yourself with chips; I can tell you're fat yourself.

Does that change what the cochlea is and does?

Why do people keep going on and on about the signal path? This is the output that connects directly to the headphone drivers. There is no further processing or amplification in the case of headphones. We already have as much of a digital signal path as possible. The short headphone cable isn't degrading your experience in any way.

And, as already mentioned, you already have multiple formats of digital out if that's what you want. Taking away the headphone jack does not add digital, it only removes analog headphone out. Why are people so desparate to see this gone when it isn't being replaced with anything? If you don't need it, just don't use it.
The headphone jack is degrading the phone. It's big and fat and serves at most one function. For me, and people like me, it is no function at all. The space is more useful for something else.

Seriously or sarcasm? If you're talking about the watch I agree with you. But any device as big as the phone (as dictated be screen size) has room for the mini jack. Saying it degrades the phone seems like hyperbole. Perhaps Apple should take your advice and get rid of all the holes? Think how small it could be without all the speakers and microphones! Since we're already wearing wireless headphones, why not?

LOL if this rumour turns out to be true, well, I guess Apple got more and more absorbed into the sacrifice of features for thinness. Eventually, the phone will be so thin that it'll fold like a piece of paper... except bending in the process.
You'll be accepting it.

You can't complain about the thickness of the phone & put it in a case therefore adding to weight & thickness. Then there's the other thing you can't complain about the thickness of the phone then kick off when it bends.Theres the talk about getting rid of the 3.5mm jack which I personally think will be a great shame but as I said as far as I'm concerned it's speculation

The headline says "may", the opening sentence is "is".

Is this how you claim a high rate of "leaked" information, by surreptitiously posting it both ways? ;-)

Finally, probably more water proof. Sure an adapter, possibly cheap would be needed.

So no connection to the car stereo because driving a car is so last decade... o_O
Mi car is 9 years old and have stereo bluetooth. If this comes true, third party will see lightning to AUX for i hope under 9€

I know this is just a rumour but if it does come to fruition. I am so done with iPhone for good.

Let's be real now, the iPhone is light and very thin as is---there is absolutely no reason to make it any thinner. Instead Apple should be focusing on making it last longer with better battery, better display/shatterproof/(waterproof-wishful) and how to reduce the overall length of the phone; starting with Home button and front facing camera. Those are some wasted space.

Hmmm the 6S is thicker than the 6. I blame the headphone jack also!!!

This is insanely stupid. I'm all for advancing technology and moving things forward - but removing the headphone port doesn't make sense right now. The 3.5mm port may be ancient, but that's not a logical reason for ditching it when there are no universal standard alternatives, and there are no definitive benefits to the user by going lighting-only. I see only downsides. Having to use an adapter. Having to buy new headphones to not use an adapter (and having a small selection of lightning-equipped models to choose from compared to the wider market = little choice). And the big one - not being able to charge the phone AND listen to music at the same time.

The iPhone doesn't need to be thinner at the expense of not being able to use headphones. Carrying around an adapter defeats the point of whatever size differential there could be. It's something to loose. It's something to stick out even more (an iPhone 6s Plus is already huge in the pocket). I hated using a headphone adapter that stuck out with my original iPhone's recessed jack, and not having to use an adapter was the best feature when I upgraded to my next iPhone. I don't want to go back to that. I won't go back to that hell.

Bluetooth is great and all, but bluetooth earbuds have notably sucked. Mine don't even get four hours of battery life, which makes them impractical. I have never used Apple's earbuds as I don't like the quality, so I doubt bluetooth earbuds would be any better - plus there's the limited battery life problem. Earbuds are small, so batteries are small. Full-size bluetooth headphones have longer batteries, but are not practical for travel. Plus, I have a skull fracture from an accident and can't wear headphones at all - I'm stuck with ear buds.

But the biggest issue here is with charging. My iPhone 6s never makes it through 2/3 of a day without running out of battery. The iPhone already has a small battery. Using bluetooth audio takes more battery. So, I plug-in when I get the chance. Wireless charging could help here in certain situations (at home or car), but not all (planes). This is the reason why I don't like the new MacBook - you can't use any USB devices like HDs and charge at the same time.
  • Want to listen to music, but your iPhone only has 10% charge. Can't plug-in your headphones to listen to. So you have to choose: Charge your phone OR listen to music.
  • In the car, you use GPS on the iPhone AND listen to music or audiobooks. GPS is very draining on power, as is keeping the display lit. You will be driving for a while. You have to choose. Charge your phone and use GPS, or listen to music. Can't do both.
  • On a plane, you want to watch a video, play a game, or listen to music. It's a long flight. The iPhone battery won't last on its own, and may be depleted prior to take off, but you can plug it in or use a portable charger. But you can't do both at the same time. I fly a lot, and my phone is always plugged in while I listen to music or play games for the duration of the flight. Any wireless charging stand you might have at home wouldn't work here. The battery on bluetooth earbuds would not last for the duration of a flight here either. Wired headphones are the logical choice here.
  • I use a small battery pack to charge while I'm out and about, and am usually listening to music at the same time. I couldn't do this.
  • You want to plug into your expensive wired home stereo system and leave your phone playing for a number of hours, but can't plug the iPhone in, so it will be draining the entire time.
I love Apple products, but this would be one step too far at this point for me. It's way different than moving from dock connector to lighting, which was an apple-specific charging port only, or removing a floppy drive or DVD drive from a computer. This would fundamentally change how and when you use the phone for the worse, while providing no real benefits in return. I shouldn't have to drain my phone just to listen to music, and I don't want to compromise between when and how I want to use my phone and when I charge it.

Neither was smartphones before the iPhone.

At 5'11" and size 34 men, I wouldn't categorize myself as fat. But congrats on making an assumption.

A proprietary connector... for EARPHONES. What about if I wanted to use my earphones on another device or a non-Apple device?

Utter stupidity.
This is is stupid, they should keep the headphone jack on the apple devices!!

For me I would be happy with a change. I mostly use wireless headphones anyway and the few times I don't it's the standard Apple Headphones. And if for some strange reason would need to use a 3.5mm I would assume I can get an adapter for $1 on ebay. Imo stop resisting change so much, it has turned out well almost every time the history Apple abandoned CD, iPod-USB etc.

Suddenly the all 6S and older iPhones will be sought after like old vinyl records. I guess I'd have to go to android as much as I hate it, not cause I am making a statement but cause Apple is kicking me out.

Jump to a thicker, uglier, and lower user experience platform so you can keep the headphone jack? Or am I missing something?

Android phone hardware is not necessarily thicker and uglier. Some are quite nice designs. The Nexus 6p is as thin as an iPhone and I think looks just as nice. I think the Note 5 is arguably the best designed hardware on the market right now. Others are not (leather or wood backs). Software is a different story. But not being able to use wired audio in a car or on a plane while charging, or not being able to charge & listen to music on a long flight are big enough issues for me that it may very well keep me from buying a future iPhone. I've been using my iPhone for GPS and music while charging in my car since 2010. Not being able to would be a huge sacrifice - and it would seem like I'm downgrading my user experience. That's a sacrifice I'm not willing to make, no matter how good the software might be. And to be honest, its a sacrifice I shouldn't be having to make - especially if there are no definitive benefits other than the phone being a bit thinner.

And nobody cares about waterproof phones. I've never had a point where I've dropped my phone into water or the headphone jack presented a problem of water getting into my phone.

I'm all for removing the port. I haven't used it in years; it just serves as a way for water to get into the device and takes up space that could be used for literally anything else. I hope it comes to fruition with the 7.

For everyone saying it's a stupid move, the real stupid thing I see is everyone literally freaking out over a RUMOR.

You are right. However, if this is something Apple is actually considering, maybe they could read people's opinions of it and it could be factored into their internal design decisions. It's worth letting them know what people think.
