that's not surprising at all,I mean the Air 2 itself is quite old and dated.
what surprises me is how people still use that 4TH gen or 3Rd gen iPad.
few months back I used a friends 3Rd gen..it was ridiculous..so bulky and heavy and unbearably slow.
the think felt like holding a folded laptop. :D

Well, I've taken good care of my iPad 3rd gen, including using good practices with the battery (e.g. not draining it all the way down, not always leaving it plugged in, etc.) It still works great... and would work a lot better if not for the latest supported version of iOS on it that makes it unpleasantly slow to use

Oh, no, would you look at that. My iPad 4 literally JUST stopped working! I should have known better than to have put it next to those powerful magnets of mine. WHAT A COINCIDENCE!

The Air 2 is a huge upgrade even from the Air 1 and is even better than the the new iPad they're selling in some ways. Obviously it's not an iPad Pro but it's also less than half the price on eBay.

I was wondering if I was missing something here too..... those are 4½ year old tablets.....

i doubt most people still have valid applecare for it.

amazingly my iPad 4th gen is still working. need a good reason to get the iPad Pro.

Buying a new Ipad is cheaper than dealing with repair. And, you still only have an older ipad. Why would anyone even go down that road - unless under warranty.

that's the thing, iOS software upgrades make the older devices very slow and laggy.just because they put out iOS and say it's supported for older device doesn't mean it runs good..
that and the fact that form factor is so out dated now.it's just too bulky and heavy for a tablet.as I said pretty much like holding one of those foldable laptops.(Yoga?).

Given that businesses buy these things, it's a real issue if you have things like kiosk stands, cash register mounts, a mount and certification for your Boeing 767... It can easily cost more than the actual device. This is why real enterprise hardware companies like Dell and HP guarantee parts availability for 5 years after last sale date.
Aren't you also paying for that guarantee? Granted, I digress that that may be cheaper than having to repurchase everything on your own.

No silly.. if you need repairs, you would have to pay (after warranty expires). But they send you an iPad Air 2 instead of repairing your iPad 4. So if you were needing a new battery... it would cost $100 but you'd get a newer model.

Sure the enterprise computers cost a little more. But a lot of it is covered in the price of the parts, so people who benefit by needing obsolete parts pay for it. This is why it costs $120k to buy the parts for a $30k car.

I know they were doing something similar with iPhones. I had a 6 (128GB) swapped out for a 6S when my battery started having issues. This was in the last week of Apple care. May be cheaper for Apple to not stock refurbished of every model and capacity. I noticed it this article it mentioned that not everyone would get an iPad Air 2, and also mentioned noting capacity, would not be surprised if the iPad Air 2 only goes to those who have capacities that Apple no longer stocks of the iPad 4. Also makes a happy customer when you give them an upgrade.

Are any fourth gen iPads even still under warrantee??

iPad 4th generation was retired in October 2014. Standard warranties will all be expired. AppleCare warranties on ones sold in the last year of its life will still be in effect. And it was likely sold as a certified refurbished (which carries full warranty, and is eligible for full AppleCare extended warranty) for a few months beyond.

Note that the ones sold between March 2014 and October 2014 were "low end" - as Apple had discontinued the iPad 2 in March '14, and re-introduced the iPad 4th gen as the "cheap iPad". The iPad 4th gen was not available at all from October 2013 (iPad Air's introduction) to March 2014 (iPad 2's retirement,) except as refurbished.

Where's my hammer?

lol...excited are ya?

We'll see a massive surge as everyone with iPad (4th Gen.) suddenly rush into their nearest Apple Store for repairs just to hopefully get an iPad Air 2 out of this

At least where I live, AppleCare for iPhones/iPads is 2 years, not 3, and October 2014 was 2.5 years ago. Otherwise, can they replace my incredibly stuttery and slow loading Oct 2014 iPhone 6 with a 7 pls?

anyone with any luck with this replacement?

Funny enough, I wasn't going to use this program... too many cases and I kind of like the design..
then yesterday my wife dropped my ipad and cracked the screen. So it's kind of lucky/unlucky.
