If the design we've seen is the final design, then I think any innovation or fireworks will have to come from within. I don't really see upgrading from a 4s solely for a slightly larger screen.

My guess is that the main hardware features will be LTE, NFC (Passbook), and the usual slew of speed enhancements. The question is, are those hardware features in combination with iOS 6 enough?

We'll see...

LTE and a bigger screen is all I need.

Yes, this is good news, but my main concern is if T-Mobile USA's parent company strikes a deal with Apple to offer the iPhone on their network either before the launch of this iPhone or the end of 2012 - beginning of 2013. If the iPhone does land on T-Mobile, you have one happy and excited Apple Fanboy here.

What happened to the double dipping in secrecy? I have never heard of a rumor this early (53 days?) about the exact date of a major announcement.

Well, thats just has official as Apple confirming it. I am willing to bet, Walt has the new iPhone or will be getting it in the next couple of weeks to test it.

controlled leak: Apple's way of saying "don't jump onto android yet, hold onto your hat's because we're getting something"

Please, we'll be getting the phone you see pictured in the OP. These leaks are way different than the suppose teardrop the iPhone 4S was suppose to get.

I don't think so.
I have two reasons, 1. This will affect the sales of current quarter. Apple wouldn't want to do that. 2. Everybody knows something is coming, why have a controlled leak it now and give people to opportunity to see what it is. The ones that don't like it may go and buy an android right away.

Just like all Apple media events. I will anxiously be waiting like a kid waiting to come to the living room on Christmas.

My wallet is open and ready to pre-order!

The iPhone is getting boring and I think it's catching up with Apple in terms of sales. If Apple gave us more customizability, maybe there wouldn't be such a clamor for a new physical design. After all, it's the physical design that keeps the iPhone interesting - not what's on the screen, which is basically the same as it's been for the last five years.

Wow... talk about completely misunderstanding the nature of the new world.
The physical design is the LAST thing that iPhone is about.
The application IS the device, and you literally get to carry hundreds of devices with you.
Unless you want fins on your phone. Welcome to 1959.

So much for 'doubling down on secrecy.'

I was going to say exactly that; then I thought that I suppose this could go down two different ways.

1) What you said. New iPhone debuts, leaked parts as with all previous leaks, turn out to be legit.

2) Apple somehow slipped us all a mickey, and the new iPhone looks NOTHING like any of these parts. They were all leaked to bust leakers, and the new thing has totally different parts?

I realize its far fetched, but figured I'd throw it out there anyway.
