Sure music is horrible today. With Pop and Hip/Hop.

Nobody doesn't look for the good music. You are still stuck in the past. Before you know the old music will overplayed constantly.

Look for the good rock music today. Don't sit there and listen to the old music thats "all that is good these days". That music is in the past. But good for you that you like it.

Also, the thing about listening to old rock music like led zeppelin and metallica on youtube where people comment by defending themselves with "this stuff is way better than the piece of crap Justin Bieber and Katy Perry, etc." THAT IS THE BIGGEST INSULT I hear everyday! WHY are you comparing crap music to good music? Knowledgeable people will make better comparisons.

iPod Classic should get a redesign. That's my bet. I'm sick of hearing crap about iPod Touch, iTV, iLife, etc.

What good is 1080P output if the data you are streaming is mostly 720P and 1080i?

Because there are more options than just iTunes. Cheap HD camcorders have been in people's hands for more than 4 years now. We can render their video in iMovie, watch it in Quicktime, import it & play it in iTunes, but we can't pump it (at 1080i/p) via this last link in the chain to our 1080HDTVs.

Think beyond what is available now from just iTunes. There is building 1080p content in YouTube, which, is an alternative to iTunes that can be accessed via :apple:TV since almost the beginning (we just don't have the hardware to play that quality of video). There's tons of vodcasts that could go 1080i/p at any point, but there's no :apple:TV/iTV hardware that could play them at that level. Etc.

The hardware must come before the software. Sell lots of it, and some studio's greed will motivate them to test 1080i/p product in the iTunes store. If a studio put Avatar 1080p in the iTunes store today exclusively as an :apple:TV rental for 2 cents, it would fail. Why? Because without the hardware in place, NOBODY can use that software.

Besides - the audio tracks on these HD streaming videos are compressed and not presented in lossless format as they are on blu-ray.
But that's only a (right) choice of hardware & software away. This iTV could launch with the very same chips inside that playback BD video & sound. All it takes is for Apple to decide to directly compete with these particular BD benefits head-to-head.

Even if they fall a little short of that, a 1080p iTV still sells better than a 720p iTV, and those- apparently like you- that asks "what's the point?" can still enjoy your 720p at it's fullest possible experience. The rest of us that want a little more though, can buy one too. You win, We win. Apple wins. Nobody loses.

It doesn't work the other way though.

Streaming HD content with today's technology is a fail.

Maybe, but until the demand problem is created- that is, until you have lots of people with a 1080p box wanting to stream 1080p content, there's nearly ZERO incentive for those that could make that happen to do much about it. The pipes won't fatten up until the pressure is full on for them to do so. There's no money in expanding bandwidth when A. You have no competition, B. you have 1 competitor who is also in the video subscription business, and C. you get the same level of revenue from each subscriber whether you spend much on fattening your pipes or not.

If Jobs/Apple thinks BD is DOA and a "bag of hurt", they must deliver the compelling alternative. Even the dummies can grasp that 1080p is "full HD" and 720p is < 1080p. If you want to beat something at it's own game, you pretty much have to at least meet it's most key benefits head-to-head.

Bro you can't diss pop and hip/hop based on the mainstream. Music is subjective so its all based on the person. I have the who and hendrix on my ipod but i also have katy perry/madonna because its good music.

Also for some good hip/hop go listen to stuff like the roots/chiddy bang/kid cudi/wale/knaan/mos def/nas just to name a few.

its not that the music of my genrtaion is crappy (i'm 19) its just that the priorites are different. Its like in 50s/60's when doo wop was big people like buddy holly and chuck berry were considered bad or horrible.

diss? Are you from Chicago or the bronxs?

+1

I'm only 17 but I couldn't agree more with you. Most music in the charts is trash (my opinion) and the grammar of most teens is appalling, especially when you look at posts made on Facebook with no capital letters and every second word has been shortened to something like 'lyk' (like) or 'kl' (cool).

Back on topic, I'd really quite like to see iWork on the iPhone. I have a spreadsheet dedicated to a trip I'm going on next year and it would be great to be able to update and add ideas to it while I'm on the go, as I'm likely to have forgotten by the time I got home.

Yeah I've seen that. Along with the "First!"

one thing I HATE is when they demand you respect them before they can respect you. No. thats not how the world works my friend.

as for iwork on iPhone. I'm sure that will happen sooner or later.

Sounds like you shouldn't have bought a Mac then.. and instead bought a Windows 7 machine with built-in BluRay.. would have cost you heck of a lot less than $3K too ;)

BTW, I do agree that some of Apple / Steve Jobs choices are just plain silly, and continuing to ship high end Mac desktops without BD drivers is one of them.. But on the other hand, no one is forcing us to buy Apple products. Like I couldn't put up with locked down App Store crap any more, so I switched to Android.

For me it worked out as I have a theater room with a Sony Blu-Ray player running through a 7.2 (that's right - two subs) True HD audio surround sound - playing on Definitive Technology Speakers...for anyone that cares. My point is that for those of us that are committed to lossless audio in our movie experience - we aren't going to accept some weak 1080i 5.1 channel Dolby digital streamed movie. There is a huge difference between the two. And if I want to take one of my many blu-ray disks and put them on the computer...I can't. I have to go purchase a DVD to go with the blu-ray if it didn't come with a digital copy or with a DVD packaged in it.

Now...while I did get an iMac - I won't be getting iTV if it won't stream 1080P with lossless 7.1 audio.

See now you're dumbing it down another notch.

NO! Compare the great rock band to another great rock band. Don't compare it or dumb it down to the crappy music, that we know is crappy.

I think there is going to be a lot of disappointment at this year's iPod event. Way too many people want way too many things. White iPhone at iPod event? HELLO? IPOD EVENT!

The new ipods will not be included in the promotion.

Is it really that hard to understand?
Is it written somewhere that the new ipods won't be included in the promotion? How do you know for sure? If you replied or read about it somewhere in the thread, then don't expect me to read every page

It's in the terms and conditions for the back to school promo

I understand what you are saying, but you can't say people are stuck in the past just because they don't like music of today (but there are plenty of people stuck in the past). Granted the world is quite different today, from yesterday, but some music pushes beyond these timeframes. It doesn't have to do with intellectual content, or even structure, sometimes passion is what counts.

Plus, music is a personal choice. Haven't you ever liked a pointless song because of the way it made you feel? This being said, this event is centered around music. As a musician I can only hope people are considering the artist when obtaining their music. If you can pay $.99 for an App, why can't you pay $.99 for a song?

Well...

I was delaying buying a Macbook Pro in hopes of getting an iPod 4 on the special; if there's no special, I think I'll wait for Sandy Bridge and CDMA iPhone. I'm not in a rush.

I mean, it would be nice if they extend the offer. It shouldn't eat into their margins too much-considering without the offer I might not buy a mac now as their price point is not too attractive to me (I know, that's another debate, but I simply don't like Nehalem). I'm in a minority-most buyers probably won't care whether or not its ipod 4.

Also, unless it is 128 Gb, I might not be interested; and we have no confirmation Apple intends on making the memory larger at this time (They probably won't, unless they do an iphone refresh, as that would make the ipod much more attractive than the current iphone for people who want to carry around their media). 32 Gb is pushing low IMO.

Yeah. You can get this years iPod. You'll have to wait till Next September or if they do what they did this year, wait till the 2012 back to school season.

I'm waiting to see if they rewrite the terms. After all, a week of an offer is a bit long and it says while supplies last. As the terms were amended in June, I wouldn't say its a sure thing Apple won't change them for a week-especially if they're out of inventory. If they want to move macs-which have a higher profit margin anyway-it makes sense to keep it going an extra week.

After all, a company like Apple probably wouldn't release serial numbers before the product launches. That is somewhat of a confirmation.

They wont. You'll know how many pissed off people there will be? they are doing this to get rid of the 2ed gen stock.

and what do you mean by your last stastement?

It will sell relatively fast in the USA.....but Canada will get it about a month after USA gets it....pisses me off...just like the iPad and iPhone4, we got them 1-2 months after you guys got them.

I wouldn't be so sure. I think the iPad and the iPhone 4 took longer because of carrier issues? You know Rogers haha; but of course an iPod wouldn't have that problem (unless the put 3G in it, but that seems unlikely). Then again, I live in Toronto, so it might be just wishful thinking :p.

If Apple included rebate rates on products that don't exist-next gen stuff-then people would be posting it on sites like these demanding to know what they are and speculating. The reality is you're probably not going to know the serial numbers until someone can purchase one.

Apple's not going to make that mistake.

And frankly, I don't see why people would necessarily be mad. They got a free ipod. If they thought they could get a better free one, they should've waited. Its like buying a computer, then a new one comes out the next week. Apple doesn't reduce the prices on the old things until the new ones come out. Shouldn't they be mad by the same logic?

While I doubt Apple would do it, I don't think it'd be a bad business move for them to. I'm hoping they do it also. Considering its going to probably be out a whole week before the offer ends, and since the terms and conditions are subject to change, I don't think its definite that it won't be included. I just doubt Apple would have a good sale. For one thing, they don't need to.

As I said, personally, I don't need a 3rd gen and a Nehalem.

Also, "That is somewhat of a confirmation"-releasing a serial number-of apple's future plans (how many new products will appear, not necessarily their specs).

Glad to hear they're going to lower the rental prices on TV shows. I've used it before (and Amazon video on my Tivo) to rent shows that for some reason I miss (power outage or shows being pre-empted, etc.)
