Apple messed up my returned iPhone 5s

I'm surprised that online iPhones aren't allowed to be returned to store. I did it last year for the iPhone 4S and a coworker returned his online iPhone 5C at the store last week.

Online says no, but others have done so. Apple, to make it simple should just drop the mention of those that buy from the online store, are required to mail it back

For future references. You can return an online apple iPhone order at the apple store. I just did yesterday

I was told two days ago by Apple that you can not do that. Or at least not in the UK.
