Same here. Use mine for WoW, not a problem. Would like a little more customization on the buttons but that's it.

Ball gets clogged, but just takes a minute or two to clean.

Generally, that's true.

But, before I quit using mine, it got to the point where I would invest 20 minutes to scrubbing, cleaning, scrolling all different directions and so on over and over and over again using a clean cloth and some rubbing alcohol.

It just gets a build-up under the ball, and after a while there's nothing you can do to get it all out.

I finally got tired of spending 20 minutes every week on my mouse. So, I cleaned it one more time and gave it to my wife.

My wife uses her computer less, and I haven't had to clean it since. Also, the Microsoft Mouse that I use now hasn't had to be cleaned at all either.

So, I used my MightyMouse for a year and a half. It survived the first 3 months without needing cleaned. After that, it needed about 2 or 3 minutes of cleaning every week for about 3 months or so. After that (and until I quit using it) I spent about 20 minutes a week cleaning it.

Of course, I could get it cleaned and working in less than 20 minutes. But, it would take 20 minutes of cleaning to restore not only functionality but also that nice smooth scrolling feel that it is supposed to have. It would scroll a bit rough until it was thoroughly and repeatedly cleaned.

The main issue, is that the oils from your fingers transfer to the ball. And, the ball is the mechanical surface. The sensor that the ball rolls on doesn't register the scrolling once the ball is covered in oil.

Other mice use wheels that are mounted on an axis / axle type pin. So, the pin runs through the wheel, and is turned when you turn the wheel. So, the oil from your fingers won't affect wheel mice since the wheel is not the part responsible for making contact with the sensors.

Had a wireless MM with my iMac, and worked without any mechanical fault, but did have a few gripes. Firstly, it 'drank' batteries at the rate of a set every couple of months. Secondly, the tracking wasn't that special, as I always felt that the mouse took a lot of movement to work it's way across the screen. Thirdly, it would occasionally lose its Bluetooth connection with the iMac, as did the wireless keyboard.

Have to say I'm still considering whether to buy a replacement when I get my MacBook Pro, but will be looking at the alternatives from Microsoft and Logitech in the meantime.

I have a wired Mighty Mouse (can't be bothered with batteries) for my MacBook and I love it. No complaints.

... actually, that isn't true. It jumps around a lot. Supposedly I need a mouse-pad, which is weird because I can't remember the last time I had to use a mouse pad.

We have a stock of wired MM here at my college. They've worked perfectly for over a year. I clean them occasionally but, in my opinion, they are quite reliable, stylish and practical. Certainly more reliable than the Dell mice we use for the PCs here (fail frequently). In fact, my only caveat with the MM is the right clicker. I find it rather difficult to right click since you have to lift up your left finger to do so. I tend to keep both my fingers on the mouse and end up left clicking frequently by mistake.

Yes, it is a bit tricky sometimes.

Of course, it's better than a one-button trackpad that can't be replaced. :(

Microsoft makes some of the best mice. I just bought another MS Comfort Optical Mouse 3000 last night for a new computer. Don't even think about getting the Mighty Mouse. Apple hasn't had a good mouse design since the days of the beige Macs.

I completely agree. It maybe unusual, but Microsoft does indeed make some of the best mice in market- in my personal opinion.

I have a MS Wireless optical mouse since the last 5 years, and I have had to change the batteries only 4 times- it has been giving me flawless performance on my Macintosh notebook computer.

Mighty mouse

I''m buying a mouse for my Macbook Pro today, and I'm wondering if I should get a Mighty Mouse(wired)

What should I go with?
I've had my wired mighty mouse for almost a year, and I have to say I like it. I like the scroll ball on top, it can go left and right as well as up and down, The Scroll ball seems more responsive than the scroll wheel on the Dell at work.
No problems with the ball clogging for me yet.....

Logitech make the best peripherials for any computer. I ended up getting a Logitech laser mouse for my iMac because I couldn't be stuffed cleaning the roller ball in the mighty mouse. Hopefully Apple will introduce a new mouse soon.

Nope, it has a left and right click. There isn't a visible divider on the mouse; simply press the left side and you get typical left click, touch the right half and you get a right click.

Thanks, didn't realize there was a right click option. I have the new wireless MM on my iMac. Just had to go to System Preferences to enable the right click. Now I'm happy! :)
