The mini is gone for now?

Weird... it is gone from their normal sight. But if you log in as a student/educator you can still buy it. This is good since their by a mac get a free mini promo wasn't supposed to be over until 9/24.

In hindsight, I guess that's why they ran it: to get rid of stock and make room for the nano. Of course......when I buy my G5 powerbook during the Paris event, I can get $179 towards a nano or HarryPod. :D

This phone truly is horrific.

Apple should get other phone manufacturers on board asap.

I'll go against the grain and say the ROKR iTunes phone will kick start the next revival in Apple's fortunes. This is big. You guys are looking at the small picture, focussing on the machine only. THIS IS HUGE!

Has anyone noticed this from the Moto site (I skipped the second page of comments):

"Removable Memory : Optional, removable TransFlash memory cards store photos, music and video clips"

I just bought a Sony Ericsson K750i with a 2 megapixel camera.
That is the best phone on the market at the moment

Aw come on, don't kid yourself. Best phone feature-wise on the market right now is the Nokia N90. I don't really like Nokia and hate GSM in the US, but I have to hand it to that handset - it's the best on the market, and better than the K750i.

I just got one for use with the Cingular network.
good to know, thanks. i've got t-mobile and have been happy w/ it in chicago and new york. i have chicago friends w/ cingular and i'm hearing mixed reviews.

perhaps i'll give t-mobile time to offer the 750.

Huh? My RAZR synced with Mac OS X right out of the box. No cable required if you're playing with BT.
I can BT sync out of the box as well. Perhaps it requires a firmware update on the RAZR? I just bought my RAZR last week. Software Version: R374_G_0E.40.9CR Cingular is my carrier, not sure if that effects the software version or not I know they often put carrier-specific firmware on mobile phones.

yeah, i was thinking about picking up one of those. which service do you use? any additional complaints about the phone?

Yes a couple of small grievances with the K750i:

1. video clips can only be 10 seconds.
2. It doesny have a standard headphone adapter.
3. Even though the speaker is really good and loud when you press the 'music' button is says you have to have the headset plugged in.

But basically it is a fantastic phone and I fully recomend it.
(BTW I'm in the UK, I got the phone free with a annual contract for 25GBP pm on vodafone)

has anyone seen the demo on on cingular... they didn't seem to know about iTunes 5!

I also saw Steve Jobs on CNBC. He never once showed the phone but kept waving the nano about.. I get the feeling that Apple's heart is not in this deal
I'm sure working with Moto was fine but there was quite a bit of speculation that the carriers were harassing Apple about how the content would be provided. I don't know how the carriers are in other areas of the world, but the US carriers are horrible at attempting to control all the content on your phone and making you pay them to get anything on or off your phone. The US carriers have also been known to disable hardware features on phones - like Sprint hating on BT functionality. Ugh... just thinking about it makes me angry.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if this partnership did not go smoothly and that we won't be seeing more on this front.

Unlock the phone and you'll have
1. Unlimited length in video clips

just what i want. Lots of dropped calls, a 2 year contract, and my music tied into a long term contract with a terrible provider. Maybe Apple will partner with carrier pidgeons next.

I have Cingular with a Motorola phone and have never had any drop calls. Not saying your not telling the truth (and this post isn't just to you), but there seems to be some negative stuff about Motorola/Cingular here and I just want to say that I haven't any problems with them in contrast to the majority of opinions here.

1. GSM sucks in major cities. I'm in NYC. GSM here sucks. If you think GSM in NYC (at least) is good, swing by and see the reception my Sprint phone (or Verizon phone) gets.

2. Talk about a yawner of a design. It's just an older model rehashed. Thank god the Apple logo isn't on it.
it looks very eerily like my 2 year old phone that i recently got replaced..

You may be right :)
I am not a phone-junkie.
Is it the case that the K750i was available on the street maybe 3 or more months earlier than the N90?

That would account for it's superior technology.
But sometimes you've got to stop waiting for the next big thing.

OK, maybe I'm just unclear on the concept of a cell phone as a music player. There are too many compromises to convince me to buy one. It doesn't hold enough songs to qualify as bringing my music with me (in my opinion). It doesn't have the super click wheel to navigate with. And I'm limited to using Cingular, at least for now. I can't help but feel like these are two devices used for different purposes that aren't being combined very well.

Maybe it's because I'm not into the whole cellphone/organizer/text messager/mobile web thing anyway. I suppose a lot of people are into this, but it sounds like Steve is a lot excited about the nano than the phone. And I wonder if it's just to keep some media buzz thing going until an iPod Video or whatever comes out in a few months.

Moto phones not that bad.

The hardware is good, though often ugly.

The interface is appalling though. I had one and it drove me absolutely mad.

Unfortunately the ROKR does not even deserve to be on the same stage as the elegant iPod Nano. Poor Steve, we had to wait a year for this? They probably canceled the Keynote in Paris because Steve didn't want to have to hold that thing in his hands again. My only thoughts are that they signed a contract with Motorola in a drunken stuper and were forced to ship this thing, they waited as long as they could.
