'tis true. Samsung, Nokia, Sony...any of those would have been nice.

I hope Apple do their own phone.

Meanwhile, here in Finland (home of Nokia) there actually are increasing rumors about Nokia siding with Apple. I saw a magazine article at work (can't remember which magazine, but the story was in Finnish) which seemed to predict a Nokia iTunes phone as a near certainty. It quoted a Nokia manager saying "Yes, I have already seen such a phone" referring to iTunes on a Nokia, as well as wondering why it took Motorola so long to implement the iTunes phone.

And yeah, the Motorola phone is butt ugly, though there's no guarantee of Nokia pulling it off any better (which is not to say they haven't made some quite good looking phones).

Can someone please answer this question. Can you use your songs from itunes as ringtones on the phone? kinda dumb question but i can't see this documented anywhere

Never owned a Nokia then... ;)

Yeah, I owned a Nokia but didn't like it. It was an older model. The form factor was small but it weighed a ton. The screen was curved and difficult to read. It seemed like a lot of the graphical items were obscurred in the corners of the screen. It kept turning on accidentally when bumped. I hated it!

I like flip phones. I like the ease of answering by flipping the cover, hanging up by closing the cover. I like the smaller size and weight of most flip phones because they lie flat and feel comforable in your pocket. I hate having a bricklike Nokia hanging in my shirt pocket.

I also like the shape of a flip phone because when it is open it fits the natural contour of your face from ear to mouth.

I don't know about the CROKR but you can with the K750i.
So I would consider it likely.

I can BT sync out of the box as well. Perhaps it requires a firmware update on the RAZR? I just bought my RAZR last week. Software Version: R374_G_0E.40.9CR Cingular is my carrier, not sure if that effects the software version or not I know they often put carrier-specific firmware on mobile phones.

Huh! Thanks for the info. My Razr phone is an older version. I bought it about a week after it was available through Cingular and have had it for about a year now (I think).

I will have to check because maybe the phone does have a new software version. I am also still running Panther. If you are using Tiger maybe that is a possibilty as well.

iTunes Phone Records Photos and Video Too

Don't have time to read all the posts. Did anyone notice that this is really a multimedia phone with Photo and Video recording capabilities? Apple makes no mention of it and you have to drill down to the spec sheet on the Cingular site b4 this is revealed. Makes it much more interesting - esp 'cause it has bluetooth too. :)

Its $250.00...... Thats as much as a PSP....... wow. Id rather buy a nano.
My sentiments exactly. Why would anyone pay $250 for a phone that has the capabilities of an iPod Shuffle ($99), isn't even a camera-phone and is uglier than, well anything that Apple has had it's name associated with in years? I sure won't. I'd buy one of those newish color-screen iPods that can hold lots of music and photos, then get a free cell phone and call it good.

Anyone else notice that apple is advertising the motorola phone as "The First" cell phone with iTunes capabilities? implying there will be more in the future!!! maybe one that looks good. like the razor. . . that can play iTunes!!! that would rock!!!

Anyone know if the ROKR will work with headphones other than the ones it comes with? I ask for two reasons.. I would want to be able to use the in-ear iPod headphones I have, and I would want to be able to plug in my cassette adapter/line-in cables for the cars...

My wife's cell phone is on its last legs, and she lusts after my Nokia 6630... so I thought I would give her the Nokia and my Shuffle and just make do with the ROKR.

I honestly dont understand (pardon my ignorance) as to why phone companies dont move their phones to the 3g market, data transfer speeds of up to 384kbps as opposed to gprs being 52-56kbps.

Is it the fact that there's no market/availability in the USA?

I dont know, I'll wait for a new variant of the itunes phone before i take the plunge (also would have to see which telco in australia would accept it, with the way Telstra is going, chances are it'd go to Vodafone, im putting $5 on that wager) :)

I suggest you get your wife a SonyEricson K750i and stick with the kit you have got rather than buy this CROKR.

Even though i can't get one in my area, I wouldn't if I could. It's kind of androgynous looking.

As widely anticipated, Apple and Motorola finally announced the iTunes-capable phone that has been the subject of rumors and speculation for over a year.

The new phone will be available in the U.S. through Cingular. Cingular has updated their website and provided pricing information on the new phone. The phone is available for $249.99 with a 2 year contract.

The phone features a color display for album art, dual built-in stereo speakers and stereo headphones.. It supports music, audiobooks and Podcasts and syncs with iTunes. The phone pauses music automatically during incoming phone calls.

More details available at http://www.apple.com/itunes/mobile/
YAWN!

Cingular could have at least used/showed the Mac iTunes interface in the Cingular commericals for the phone.

Nothing like padding that post count.

Anyway...

I think a lot of the people here forget that they are not the average user. A whole lot of people don't need, or even want, 10,000 songs (or even 1,000) with them every waking moment of their lives. I have a 40Gig iPod, an original 5Gig iPod, and a 1Gig Shuffle, and even if I used all of them, I couldn't fit half of my music on them... but neither do I think I am (or should be) the target market for a device like the iTunes phone.

For most people, a phone that holds more music than you can play on one charge of the battery is probably verging on overkill... I know when I leave the house I am only going to have a portion of my collection with me, so I guess I am more accepting of smaller capacities.

I think this phone will sell well, and I think it is a valid product to fit a legitimate marketspace. Of course it is far from ideal, but neither is it the total garbage a lot of you seem to think it is.

I'd pay a grand for a phone that merges ipod nano guts with the RAZR. sure it'd be bigger and thicker...but it'd be smaller than that friggin ugly ROKR. seriously.

i'm pretty sure no one else would pay that much...so it won't happen ... until next year.

iTunes Phone...

Apple releases an iTunes phone....the world forgets to care.....unless you are an idiot Apple groupie who will buy junk because Apple is associated w/ it.

I like most of Apple's products, but I just can't find the energy to care about this phone. Glad we can finally move on, and it will be off the rumor sites.

Talk about underwhelming....

Not offered by my carrier (Cingular) but it would be nice. Suppose I could get an unlocked one.

i don't want to advocate the devil - but if everyone remembers, there were negative responses to the ipod mini, and the ipod shuffle. also - keep in mind that apple feels that they have to get into this market - just look at mac mini and the mighty mouse.

one things for certain though - i've never seen people walking down the street with headphones plugged into a cell phone. and i've never seen people working out with their cell phone strapped to their arm. however, you'll still have a small handful of people say to you 'why should i get an ipod while i can just listen to music on my PDA, my laptop, or my cell phone?' apple is putting iTunes in a phone for a reason. and i honestly don't think they care about any of moto's products anymore. sony's ericsson/walkman phone is looking mighty attractive right now...
