Sad that it's only available on iOS, for now at least.
I’m just glad they are rolling out what’s ready rather than waiting for each version to be finished. I do wonder how we are to use high rez streams with iOS devices though. I understood Apple sold nothing that could play them.

I'm hoping to see lyrics for all classical vocal music, with side by side translations into a variety of languages. That will make listening to opera, Bach cantatas, and Schubert lieder so much more rewarding. Also, many classical lyrics are in themselves great poetry - consider Schiller's Ode to Joy in Beethoven's Ninth. The lyric translations are almost always to be found in the CD package so this needs to be a key part of Apple Classical. Lyrics for only pop music just doesn't cut it any more.

great. Now move "Maps", "Weather" et al to the "AppStore" as well so they can update them without waiting for a whole iOS built ...
Agreed. It worked well for Android. Apple needs to follow their lead and do the same thing.

I could actually be excited (depends on preferences), but the bigger problem is: how do I stream it to my dedicated stereo, a NAD C700 with BluOS? It runs all sorts of streaming services natively, but Apple Music is always limited to airplay, which is unstable and requires a phone or iPad as a middleman - as opposed to Spotify Connect or other similar technologies that streams the music directly-to-device.
The answer is so simple! Just read your own comment.

What does "available for pre-order" mean? Seems like an attempt to manufacture hype.

My theory: Separate App because the Music app for macOS is a pile of dung and they are likely trailing a new code base for a new app, like they did for Messages on iOS and then brought it to the Mac.
My hope as well. Music for both iOS and MacOS is fairly horrible. So I really hope that this app is solid and that if so, apple will come to their senses and use it as the base of a new, perhaps recombined, music app.

I’d also say that the added metadata features of this app would be equally beneficial to modern music. Electronic and the various decendents of hip hop especially. Unless that is you’re a big fan of track titles like “Song Name feat. So-n-So [Other Guy Remix] 12” Edit [Mixed]” with three separate artists listed.

Can't wait!! Finally! 🥳🥳🥳🤩🤩🤩🎻🎻I only listen to classical music (well, 95%) and this, if it is set up well, would be just wonderful. I am hoping for a Mac app (wired open backs) and a way to put albums (not playlists!) into folders, better search, curated 'new albums' etc etc.

Searching for classical pieces is way different than for modern music, with composers being much more important, more artists per piece (with solists) and other numbering compared to albums. Plus it also has it's own coding system with certain codes meaning certain pieces of music. Cluttering the normal music app to get all that in a coherent system is not really feasible.
Classical can still be categorized as modern music too. It's just vast majority of it is not modern. Will be interesting to see how far that content goes that was created in the 20Th/21st Century. Even Electronic Music can be associated with Classical depending on its musical style.

I don't know as much about classical as I'd like, and I'm hoping this will have some tools that help me follow a thread if I find something I want to hear more of.
I'm in the same boat -- there are composers I just barely know about but want to hear more from. Here's one:

If Apple Classical can clue me in on more works from this guy, then it's done me a solid.

I don't really understand why this has to be a separate app. What if someone likes both classical music and modern music? Do they have to jump between apps then?
I'd assume classical will continue to be available in the main app as it is now. Those who want features and organization specifically tailored to the unique needs of classical recordings will be able to use this new app.

So you and everyone else who "doesn't understand why this is a separate app" can literally just never download it or think about it again and people who DO want it can use it. Always hilarious how many people have problems with the mere existence of a product they have no need for.

This is great and I'm really excited to use it. Yes, I wish the Apple Music app itself was capable enough to present Classical music properly, but so be it. There's definitely room for improvement with most other genres though, where it would be nice to see lists of the musicians involved in a certain recording and be able to tap their names to find other recordings that feature them. This would be so useful for famous session musicians or pretty much any Jazz record.
Yes all the info you would get on a CD maybe combined with an IMDb like database would be awesome.

I’m curious how apple will handle post classical music with this. Right now, from a genre standpoint, apple can’t seem to be able to decide if these pieces are classical, post classical, crossover classical, electronic, ambient, etc.

Will soundtracks be included?

Also, I’m guessing that the music itself isn’t tied to whichever app you use to download it? If I add something to my library in one app does it show up in the other? Are playlists shared?

I don't mind more choices but I hope they're not planning to remove all the classical music out of the regular music app:rolleyes:

Well, they're wondering why Apple is making a separate app rather than making the Apple Music app less inadequate for everybody. Which is a fair question if you don't understand classical and therefore don't know that for classical the Apple Music app isn't just bad or awkward or janky but effectively unusable.

Every time this is posted we get these responses. If people don't want the app, don't download it!
I think the point is that some people actually like both classical and contemporary music, (apart from the whole vexed question of 'what is the definition of classical music') don't see why they need a separate App & subscription for each, and/or would prefer to see better tagging and sorting facilities in the regular Music app for dealing with, not just classical music, but anything else that isn't 3 minute shuffle-friendly songs recorded by singer-songwriters.

...it's not as if contemporary music "songs" never have separate composers, performers or producers, never have different versions recorded by different artists, et re-mixed or re-mastered by different "producers" or turn up on multiple live recordings from different gigs, or are never presented as parts/movements, ...or that anybody playing Dark Side of The Moon or side 2 of Hounds of Love on shuffle shouldn't be automatically reported to the relevant authorities for crimes against art.
