My understanding is that yes you can. whenever you join it starts with a 3 month free period.

My dumb question is if there are features that I can use without ever subscribing? I prefer to own, but use iTunes Radio for discovery. I would be interested in the Just For You feature if I did not have to subscribe..

The only thing you can use without paying is Beats 1.

Thanks. If I can wait, I will. I still have my Spotify Premium until September and iTunes Match right around there.

Another huge benefit of Apple Music that I haven't heard mentioned, is if they let you use iTunes credit to pay for it.
I can routinely get $100 for $85. That is a nice saving right there.

Could everyone come here and post as soon as iOS 8.4 is available, please? It's important that I know the second it comes out, and I don't want to miss out. Multiple independent confirmations would be ideal. Thanks!

It doesn't seem like apple gets social media. What was it called? iTunes Ping? That sucked. And connect looks like it will suck too.
Perhaps it's because they make personal devices.

Oh that's really cool. I expected them to offer the service for free the first 3 months of its life only.

I guess they might want to sway as many 'Droid users as they can later in the year when the Android version launches so it makes sense it starts when you sign up. Doubt many Android users will sign straight up for a paid plan from Apple.

I have a question, I'm looking at iTunes right now but I don't see any beats1 option or apple music option. Is there going to be an update for iTunes too?

If they can nail it, I'd be very tempted to return to iOS when the 6S is released.

Google Play Music is really cool, but I do miss my extensive iTunes library. One place for everything would be awesome.

To be fair, Google Music gives you 20,000 songs from your iTunes library in their cloud for free.

Yes.. iTunes Radio is usable w/o a subscription (Ad supported) and you can just get iTunes Match separately for $25/year instead to keep your non-drm purchased music in the cloud.

You can mix and match services basically.

Biggest disappointment: no Last.fm integration
Hardly surprising since it's supposed to basically compete with Last.fm…

Anyway… is there supposed to be an iTunes update incoming or will this only launch on iOS today?

Dumb question. Is the three month trial a moving window or a set time period?
Can I wait 2 months from now and start the trial?
I doubt it.

Just a guess....it's the first three months of the service being available, not the first three months after someone signs up.

Not long now until we find out if Apple Music is exclusive to the U.S. for now. I know Beats 1 will be available in the UK, but will the streaming service? I really hope it is. If we don't, hey, we are still getting iOS 8.4 and Beats 1.

Eh? Just find out what time it's out in your time zone (4pm in the UK, that's where I am) and keep refreshing that software update button on your phone!!

Based on the link from another poster, it is just a little more than that. Looks like you get Beats 1 and iTunes Radio. The Just For You feature is behind the paywall.

It's nice, but OFFLINE mode not active yet (iTunes 12.2 on 10.10.3).
Australian pricing is cheaper than US.
Don't like that Soundtracks not included as a genre; and you can't link your wishlist to AM.
Radio rewind to previous song bit glitchy as well, and have to use the recently played to select.
Several albums only have partial access.
Radio skipping also quite slow.

"The Loop went into detail regarding the "My Music" section of Apple Music, noting that...all of a user's old iTunes music downloaded or in the cloud can be found there."

...suggesting that downloaded or cloud-based music is now obsolete. Guess what - it's not. I've never had any interest in a streaming service and I still don't now. I'll be continuing to buy the songs or albums that I like, when I want to buy them.

by the time Apple music gets turned on no one will be able to listen since the servers will be clogged with iOS update :)

Where have you seen the Australian pricing? What is it?

From Walt Mossberg's review it looks like the "new" section is a bit of a mess...

http://recode.net/2015/06/30/apple-music-first-look-rich-fluid-but-somewhat-confusing/
Another section, called New, isn’t tied to your own tastes. It’s the part of the app where curators, like old-school DJs, try and promote discovery of the artists and albums they like — to everyone.

That sounds simple enough, but a lot is crammed into this New module, including music videos and top tracks, plus, long, deep lists of music curated by genre, from artists that are far from new. There are also playlists for activities, like cooking, dancing or driving.

The New section is deep and rewarding, but it’s also confusing, and seems to be the place where Apple jammed everything that didn’t fit anywhere else. It could be a streaming music app all by itself.

Is there going to be a built in app for Mac or is it going to be inside iTunes app?

Streaming music is not for me. However I think that this could increase piracy if spotify has an exclusive album, rdio has one and Apple Music. People will just get annoyed by that and find music elsewhere.

So you're saying people who use streaming services are cheap people who will go illegal route just because they're annoyed? No wonder the majority of people subscribed to Spotify are on free service.

Good idea for Apple to let Jim Dalrymple try it out as the chance of him saying much negative was next to none.

I am concerned a bit about the UI comments from others though. Makes me think this will be iTunes on the PC all over again with one app trying to do to much.

Ha, that is unfortunately true. I bet they get Gruber to write a review next! ;)
