WOW. Not an Animal? and those of us that use Android on a daily basis are Animals?

Who blew all that money on Audio equipment that is not Future proof?
I was obviously completely joking. It’s just my sense of humour but can see how it may have landed badly.

I apologise for any offence caused.

i know some people will think "It's only android who cares!" but Apple has totally messed up this whole announcement. If Apple really want to seriously compete with Spotify then they need to get their **** together and focus on not just people who buy iPhones/Macs but those with Androids and Windows PCs.

Apple has a long way to go before they can match Spotify. Apple Music is a great service but only if you own an Apple device. Spotify works great on everything.

I'm on my 3 month trial of AM and it's great on my 12 Pro Max. Using CarPlay is great (when the Music app launches...) but it's a god awful experience on Windows. Also, it's non existent on my TV which I would sometimes play music on.
That’s where an Apple TV would prove handy, albeit yet another apple device and maybe seemingly redundant, once gotten I happen to use it daily instead of TVs smart features as it’s way snappier and consistent with the rest. Holding the home button will show the familiar Audio Output Devices icon and give the selection of nearby Bluetooth sets making it easy to switch (still missing auto switch for these, maybe that will never happen as it’s a “less personal” device).
Don’t know, I kinda like it, having everything on Apple Music and on iCloud/iTunesMatch playlists just makes it appear everywhere TV included.

"Apple Music for Android Reportedly Won't Support Dolby Atmos"

Umm.... did anyone tell an anti-trust lawyer about this new travesty yet? LOL. The exclusivity sounds almost like a lawsuit waiting to happen. Not that I support such frivolous lawsuits against the Apple ecosystem (a la epic).
And another lawsuit when/if it supports Android, there will be an Apple monopoly/antitrust/hoarding etc etc one for “covering too much ground”.

All this complaining about Apple. If life is so unbearable then simply sell your Apple devices and leave the Ecosystem. If everyone else offers such a massively wide plethora of options and cross platform functionality why stay with Apple? Don't use their products.

Apple is not going to change its ways. Period. You have choices. Sell your iPhone and navigate the world of Android. It's easy to do. Expecting Apple to become something it will never be from a court outcome if futile. They will simply find another way around it to maintain the Walled Garden.

So much wasted energy in these threads. Just sell your iPhone if it's so painful to use. ;)

Could be an issue with the multiple hardware vendors that exist for Android. Not every Android-based phone is built equally. Samsung, Google, OnePlus, ASUS or more of the premium phones could have similar components to make it work, but lower end phones... doubtful. Probably down the road they'll bring it out is my guess.

My Nokia phones have one loud speaker and I only use one of my Nokia phones for music at the beach. It will be interesting to hear how lossless audio sounds though only one speaker. My iPhone (and primary phone) is too good to expose to the extreme conditions of the beach. The Nokia smart phones are very durable and experience no screen dimming when the phones are warm. My Nokia 6.1 is quite damaged from exclusive beach use however still performing well other than capturing soft imaged back camera photos.

Have you tried wiping the sun tan lotion from the lens ;)

you need an appletv. Apple Music is far ahead what any other music app is doing as far as look and operation of the app on it. The Apple Music app on tv's is a little less good as the appletv version but still good. Spotify not so much.
Haven't been able to find a decent enough music app that didn't look like a 12 year old spent a week on the app on my shield.

Apple
T3 is saying that Apple confirmed to them that Homepods will indeed support lossless audio as well, so we might have to wait to clarify that out.

We had hoped that Apple could enable some kind of Bluetooth secret sauce to allow for higher-quality audio over Bluetooth to its top-tier headphones, since the iPhone 12 and AirPods Max all support Bluetooth 5.0, which is theoretically capable of CD-quality audio transmission. But alas, it proved to be wishful thinking. And we presume the forthcoming AirPods 3 will be the same story.

It raises questions over what the best options for listening to the higher-quality music will be – Apple has already noted that listening to the 'Hi-Res Lossless' tracks will definitely require wired hardware such as an external DAC, but with no aptX Bluetooth support on iPhone, that means some kind of wired headphones and likely a dongle for 'Lossless' listening listening from an iPhone too.

Apple has also confirmed T3 support on Apple TV and HomePod, which may make it easier to hear the high-quality tracks. And if you have a Mac plugged into great speakers, that'll be an easy source, potentially.
i wonder if the sound difference will push me back to running music from my appletv through my home theater system. Especially since I upgraded to an atmos system. Lately I use multiple homepods and a few Sonos speakers.

Well that's not fair. Many Android phones (like Samsung Galaxy series) are more than capable of Dolby Atmos. They need to add it in. End of the day Apple needs to make their services the best it can be regardless of what device it's on.

Yes but Apple cannot yet make their services the best they can be on their own devices.

To the people defending Apple not making this feature available on Android, do you also complain when companies like Adobe, Autodesk or Microsoft leave features out of the Mac versions of their applications compared to Windows?

Good post, Tim. You're a good journalist who simply reports without an obvious bias.

It could be a licensing thing on Android and/or device specific code that Apple's not ready for.

With all that said, I know very few people who use Apple Music, and basically no one who uses it in Android. There's basically no advantage to using Apple Music on Android unless you're somehow saving money.

Yeah, I don’t think those 5 people affected would care.

Joke aside, I don’t know any Android user using Apple Music, even most iPhone users I know use Spotify.

I have used both Apple Music and Spotify on my Samsung Galaxy phone. So now you sorta know an Android user who does.

Which one is your preferred service? Are you paying on both of them?

I like Spotify the most but prefer A-Music integration.
Well, I have gone back and forth. Apple Music paid of course as there is no option. Spotify free for a couple of days until the ads drove me crazy so I moved up to Premium.

I started with iTunes years ago. Purchased lots of albums when they were 9.99 each. Then subscribed to Apple Music which over time which really screwed up my library. My fault as I should have separated my many albums which I burned from CDs into a separate library.

I got pissed off and when getting rid of my old MBP I deleted everything. I know I was throwing away about 5,000 dollars of purchased albums away but my reasoning was that as I want to experience new music and no longer want CDs due to my moving around lifestyle, I would have to be subscribed to a streaming service anyways so there was no real compelling need to retain what I had purchased.

I was getting fed up with Tim Cook and his blatant lies and shenanigans such as knowingly selling a faulty keyboard for 4 years etc. so I wanted to divest of Apple services so gave Spotify a try. As I am more of an albums person than a playlist one, at first I was not sure about Spotify. But I was impressed with the speed of it and now with the changes which many complain about I think their system of albums is better for me.

Daniel Ek is a jerk who has no real interest in music despite his claims which was evident in the recent Spotify streamed event where he kept referring to monetisation of product and growth and no mention of quality.

So we must choose between two unpleasant companies. The factor which is currently driving me away from Apple Music is the terrible way it works on my Mac. If they can't even be bothered to have it up to snuff on their own product why should I support them.

Oh, there is also the strong push in Browse and Listen Now of no talent artists who only appeal to a segment of users far removed from me.

So my current Apple Music subscription ends at the end of the month and I won't be renewing.

A much longer response than you wanted I am sure.

If there is a valid technical reason, Apple should say what it is instead of leaving everyone to guess. If Apple has no valid technical reason, they should be openly honest about that as well, and just say they don’t want to provide full feature support.

Yup, you get it. When Apple restricts features to its own ecosystem, the crybabies and lawyers come after them for "Walled Garden exclusivity" and Apple is further sued so that Governments (like EU) force them to "open up" their proprietary walls.

And then when Apple does "open up" a popular technology and spreads it to other platforms, more lawyers come after them for over-reaching (covering too much ground) and then Apple will get sued for monopolistic dominance.

Yesterday many comment were like "Spotify is dead" but now that we know all those things about AirPods , HomePods not compatible and now this about Dolby Atmos on Android , I think Spotify is not scared at all anymore.
Im not gonna switch over to an app that treats android users as second tiered citizens lol

I pay for Spotify and Youtube Premium/Music.
