Rap does make its way into my lists once in a while but very rare.

But that’s what pop is today. Mostly rap and hip hop unfortunately.

I learned the hard way to turn off personal requests on HomePod since my gf played a bunch of stuff when I wasn’t home and it completely destroyed my New Music Mix playlist for a week. Thankfully I gave all the songs a thumb down and it’s back to normal again !
I'm just not seeing anywhere near the same amount of rap/hip hop from spotifys top charts. Or in a traditional top 40. It's a bit out of hand on apple music. If it just listened to my ratings I'd could probably get by with it.
I do return every 4 months or so to check out what's changed. And in that time i'll rate things like crazy. I can listen all day at work. And I have carplay in my truck for the drive. It does get a little bit better every time I return.
I also like the "behind the lyrics" spotify does.

Now you can use personal request on homepod again as it can recognize multiple users! I'm tempted to pick up another for a stereo pair.

Does this mean that Apple Music (the service) now keeps track of play counts in a way that can be displayed in the Music app in Catalina? Can we make smart playlists using the play counts from streaming Apple Music?

I subscribed to Apple Music 5 or 6 years ago, but I unsubscribed because it wasn’t updating play counts in iTunes. I use iTunes Match instead, and I think the play count will only update once a day based on playing actual downloaded songs—streaming them hasn’t updated play count metadata in the past.

I sure hope there is an option to opt out of this tracking behaviour

On iOS:
Settings > Music > toggle off "Use Listening History"

On MacOS:
iTunes/Music > Preferences > Playback > "Use Listening History"

No more tracking for you. Bear in mind this also shuts off playlist recommendations, play counts, and every other feature that requires checking what you are listening to.

So... it's just a repackaged smart playlist basically, right? Or am I missing something?

I think I have the same question: those parameters seem to give me a playlist of my most-played songs of all time that I happened to play in 2019 at least once. I get the impression that the new Apple Music playlists actually count the plays within each year, separate from the total play count for each song--but I can't be sure since I don't have Apple Music.

Right... (I don't subscribe to Apple Music either). I mean I haven't tested the Smart Playlist I posted extensively, I just cooked that one up in like 30 seconds as an example. Smart Playlists are awesome anyway. :) I guess this is a fine thing but I'm not feeling like this is some incredible new feature. But ... sure, it's nice I guess, why not?! :)

True, part of Apple music is also pushing what’s popular with listeners. And since Apple Music is huge with teens that could be why hip hop is also pushed. I agree spotify does a bit better job weeding out that stuff.

Giving us a choice is fine, but it's odd that a company promoting privacy requires you to opt-out of this tracking rather than opt-in. It may only be about music in this case, but what if we were talking about the podcasts you choose to follow or the Apple News that you show an interest in?

Ok so there is nearly zero difference now between Spotify and Apple Music other than personal preference. They have identical feature sets.

Spotify has no feature like iTunes Match/Apple Music Match.

Also, is there a way to make songs in a playlist not contribute to play count? This list is dominated by songs in my gym playlist, because I go to the gym a lot. Help!

at least they give us the option. this is one of my most used toggles, to make sure the tracking only tracks the music I want to track, and not those guilty pleasure songs that listen every so often

Strangely enough, I am missing my playlist for 2017 and I was definitely subscribed. I have 15, 16, 18 and 19

I must be doing something wrong as in add everything but it doesn’t transfer from the web to the app?

Ignore that! Just worked it out (they appear in playlists).

So is this a Top 100 list from the songs we have added in our library?
Or does that also count the music we check on Apple Music (including the songs we have not added in the library)?

I had to use the link in the article to get to the playlist on the web and then there was an Add button that added it to the iOS app
In the "Browse" tab in the app, the first thing is a big "'19 REPLAY" entry. At least for me. It's a link that takes you to the website in Safari. Probably the same link as in the article.

How about they work on organizing the app first - horrible and more horrible on desktop.

same goes for apple tv and the apple settings menus - its like a drunk person organized them. Mind boggling

Ok, cool...

CAN WE GET THE ABILITY TO PUT APPLE CURATED PLAYLISTS IN FOLDERS PLEASE!?

I have hundreds of playlists in the left sidebar in a long useless row.

FIX THIS!

Does this feature will be in the app itself soon or tts just on the web for now ?
