Spotify's Mac desktop app is far superior to Apple Music on the app. It has a responsive, quick UI. It is easy to find things and songs stream immediately.

Apple Music, on the other hand, is slow and clunky, full of bugs and doesn't work half the time. It's the worst Mac App I use (and it's from Apple, on their own platform.)

I know people say this all the time, but it's true: Steve is spinning in his grave.

Is funny you get one downvote. People cant handle objective truth.

Deezer deserves more attention. It has slimmer and more minimal design and its music quality is better than Spotify. I find its applications better than Spotify in many ways.

I switched from Spotify to Deezer and I won't look back if Deezer won't ****ed up with something bad. I have family subscription and we're very happy. Two things I wish they were better, its AI is behind Spotify's for sure and the other thing is that Aritsts and Labels hasn't given their catalogue so much love there.

Moreover, I like supporting smaller companies and that are not casually from Murica or the other suspicious countries. I would have never pay extra Apple, Microsoft, Amazon extra monthly when there are other options. Also never heard something bad about Deezer like Spotify.

Spotify has a lot of original local content, exclusive podcasts etc

I’m actually surprised Apple Music is even the second. Their content is only for english speaking countries.

I don’t know of anyone else here in Brazil that listens to AM, only Spotify. It’s hard even to recommend Music to people.

It’s prob similar to WhatsApp vs iMsg, globally. These 15% is prob US market.
Apple Music's content is SURELY only for english speaking countries. There're absolutly only english songs on the service. ?

In my limited experience. Spotify is more polished and the playlists a so much better. If I want a genre its so easy to find.

In saying that I use Apple Music for two reasons. One, It’s free data streaming from my carrier. Two, it’s included in Apple one thus making it cheaper for me and my wife. Annd given I don’t use it that often I don’t care enough to pay spotify.

Plus they’re a whiney little bitch of a company like Epic.
It's also very easy to find a genre on Apple Music. Just go to search and there you have it.

Spotify is the best. The features are cool, it works really well and as a benefit you don't have to live inside a walled garden.

Apple Music numbers are fake since Apple offered (and still offers?) a free year if you buy a new Apple device and has bundled Apple with other services.
Excuse me but doesn't Spotify have a free tier?

To each his/her own. I don't defend any service over another cause I like things others don't. AM for me is what I have been paying for since day 1. I have tried Spotify many times and do enjoy their interface and playlists. However they don't provide a way to upload music not available to their service like AM does. Now that lossless is available across the board, AM will continue to be my go to music source. If rumors are true about AirPods Pro 2 doing lossless streaming, then Spotify will have a difficult time meeting that.

If you have "hottest 100" vanilla tastes or are terminally into American Urban music, then Apple music is for you. If you like literally anything else, then it's Spotify. Finding new or alternate music in Apple music is a chore. Spotify music exploration is second to none. Sharing playlists, looking for others, the algorithm for their weekly discovery is on point. The official curated playlists actually get updated, unlike Apples. I WISH Apple music was better, but it aint. I pop by every now and then to see if its worth a long-term subscription, and I alwasy go back to spotify. Ever since Apple aquired beats they have lost the plot. They went from DOMINATING digital music with the iPod and the iTunes store to allowing competition to catch up and over take. Shame really.

Spotify doesn’t deserve their number 1 spot. They have the lowest paying rates for artists, they do all sorts of shady things like create their own fake artists which they place in their top playlists , all to keep the revenues to themselves and avoid paying the miserable rates, and top it all now by investing $100 Millions in AI for military, « intelligent arms » And even brag about it because they know no one cares ( all while pretending they can’t pay the artists because they’re not making enough money. Meanwhile, Daniel Ek is worth 3.6 BILLIONS of dollars).
Ek and Spotify are considered the Darth Vader of the music tech industry.

Do a search if any of this sounds weird to you. Daniel Ek’s bots can downvote this to oblivion, but it had to be said.
Use better alternatives like Apple Music, Tidal,, Bandcamp, etc…
I don't see what is wrong with investing in military AI? The other points are valid though.

Agreed. I've tried loads of them over the years, and Deezer is probably the best. It used to way above Spotify in both UI and music range, but there's much less difference now.

Spotify connect is just way better integrated than Airplay. It's just way easier to cast music to just about any device, collaborative playlists and joint sessions also work way better on Spotify than Apple Music.

I would love to see the numbers for individual countries. Here in Germany literally everyone uses Spotify.

There are only very few people using Apple Music who are deep into the Apple-Ecosystem.

I would imagine it’s a lot more popular in America than Europe to be honest. I know very few people who use Apple Music too as it’s mostly Spotify or Amazon Prime Music here.

Would it ever make sense for Apple Music to match Spotify's market share being that so much of Apple's services are designed to sell iOS products?

That is a great question, however, how do you explain the early 2000s dominance if iTunes across both windows and MacOS? I know that iPods were a thing, so they wanted to make it so more people, who didn't own a Mac, could get one and upload music. I guess this isn't a simple question to answer. Are there windows users that have iPhones and could benefit from a better apple music experience? Sure, but I don't think apple necessarily cares anymore. I'm not Tim Cook, but I see apple music as an enhancement to the ecosystem and I honestly do not think their objective is to overtake Spotify, just to make sure Spotify doesn't dominate in THEIR personal market. I'm not saying its right. And I'm not trying to downplay the legitimate complaints of windows and android apple music users, but its very possibly they don't really care.

I enjoyed Apple music during my free trial but I can't take it seriously until they put out a proper Windows version. No, I ain't using iTunes or the web browser. It's alright saying "just get a mac! that's what they want" but if Apple want to beat Spotify they need to think about Windows users. iTunes is a relic of the past and the web browser is too buggy (doesn't always play songs, logs me out).

The day Apple puts out an Apple Music app on Windows is the day I will ditch Spotify. Been using Spotify for 12 years. My current plan runs out in 7 months so hopefully by then Apple gets it out by then but if not then I'll be signing up for another year of Spotify.

Apple Music is great, but woe betide thee who uses it integrated with existing purchases, stops using it, and expects their original iTunes library not to be completely decimated. My previously owned music collection looked like a bombed runway after I cancelled my subscription to AM. In fact I haven’t even taken up the subsequent offer of three months gratis, simply because I know it will torpedo all my music again when the free period expires.

So I have used both for a very long time and I think if you used apple music a couple years ago, this is true. But, in my opinion, it is very false now. AM has released a lot of indie playlists over the past couple years. Some of my favorites are Rise and Grind (pop punk) and Metalcore (its in the name) and these are updated regularly. The more you play the indie bands the more recommendations you get through your personally curated playlists. Everyone's experience is different. I think both services are good, I personally found that the indie playlists I valued in spotify were not updated as often as their apple music counterparts. But that doesn't mean you experienced something different. Just saying this may be a subjective argument.

Funny how apple fans defend apple music because the artists are paid more. Meanwhile when talking about the ios app store fees they defend apple and talk about greedy developers :)
Ironically developers DO get paid more than they ever used to selling software thanks to the App Store. Just some have decided they now want even more than that and are trying to sue their way to it.

I guess I am in the minority here. I am a huge Apple fan, and I think BOTH services are good. Use what you like I think arguments people have on both sides are totally valid. I primarily use AM because of the Apple One bundle, but I keep Spotify around because I thoroughly enjoy the Joe Rogan Experience and when spotify offers that pay one month get 3 free I'll do that and just have both until the promo runs up. This Spotify vs AM thing has really developed into a like Republicans vs Democrats things where you can talk until your blue in the face but you're just gonna like what you like and prefer what you prefer and you should just respect each others opinions.

I use Apple Music and Spotify but one of the big problems for me is that Apple has very bad skilled programmers when it is not iOS/iPadOS.

iTunes is a mess, the MacOS music app is super clunky and slow and the webplayer also lacks seriously in performance and features.

Yes they are working on a new Windows app (for years now) and yes the will replace parts of the MacOS app with native etc.

BUT for some reason the Spotify app is 99 percent web tech and it is blazing fast and has many features such as local file indexing as well. Also their webplayer is blazing fast. So the web tech is not the problem. The programmers are.

Same goes for Apple TV webplayer which has lots of bugs, clunky and 720p quality. And don't get me started on iCloud.com or the windows plugin.

I consider myself a big Apple customer since my partner and me have 2 new iPhone Pro Max, 2 AirPod Pro, iPad Pro with pencil and magic keyboardcover, new iPad mini, a MacBook and AppleOne Family subscription. It is really not consumer friendly to punish me with a bad experience because I have a gaming windows PC and a windows work laptop, where I listen to music most of the time.

Still Apple Music pays A LOT more streaming royalties than Spotify does.
This is true, but "a lot" still isn't very much unless you're Adele or Drake and can muster a billion streams. The average amount per stream is about $.006 (as in, six-hundredths of a cent). Occasionally I've seen a stream reach a whopping half cent. But unless you're extremely popular, it doesn't add up to very much. Downloads, however, are much more lucrative but increasingly rare.
