I love this idea. But after browsing and listening to some of the cities, I’ve come to realize that I’m too old to keep up with latest pop music trends. Just not my style.
21 years olds are too old for this fluff music

Vancouver...Great!!!
Do they have any Skinny Puppy on the list ? lol
Montreal... The Doughboys
Toronto...Danko Jones
Ottawa...Furnaceface
Calgary...Chix Digit
Edmonton...The Smalls
Quebec City...Voivod
Winnipeg...The Watchmen

I guess I'll just crawl back into my iPod classic.

The music I am least likely to want to hear is the top 25 in any American city. Apple already tries to “suggest” entire genres of music I don’t particularly like. Top 25 elsewhere? Not sure at this time, but again “popular” is not always “good.”

I'm right there with you. Now, for a USEFUL update...enable me to disable entire genres so I don't see them or get them in suggestions. And I mean ANYWHERE in the app. Change "suggest less like this" to "never ever show me this trash again".

Its mostly the same songs in each city. I would have preferred if they spent more time on enhancing their discovery of new music and less on what is currently popular, which I felt that already did a good job with.

Yea, these lists take them a couple of minutes to compile and provide very little benefit to most people.

Oops, the “Top 25 Lagos” is for a small town in Portugal with 22,000 people, rather than the city of Lagos in Nigeria with 20 million people. 😂

Do you mean the image? The chart was definitely full of Nigerian artists when I looked yesterday.

Yeah I think it must be done by overall popularity, i.e. just straight-up most streamed, but obviously that means there's going to be very little variation in a lot of the world. I'd quite like if they made the algorithm more biased towards unique listens or something so you can actually get a sense of new artists emerging from Santiago or Busan or wherever.

Got really excited when I saw the news. Then had a look at the playlists and lost all interest, I could just turn on the radio for any top 20 pop-hop station and get the same rubbish shoved down my throat ears.

Positive - I had a good chuckle looking at the various "artist" names of today: Lil Baby, Lil Tjay, Lil Nas, Lil ... :p

Where the hell is Cincinnati?!? 🤣
It’s on WKRP ;)

omg I never watched that old TV show but the jingle for its opening credits was catchy somehow stuck in the neither regions of brain cells that survived massive teenage partying. How? I can’t remember the name of the girl I dated 3rd in my life but this remained?!? How?

Some glaring omissions. No Stockholm or Helsinki but they include Winnipeg and Quebec City and Ottawa??!!
Doesn't really impact me as 95% of the tunes listed I don't consider music ;) :(
And it includes Osaka and Nagoya, which are pretty close to each other geographically and culturally. For that matter I wouldn’t expect a great deal of variation between most of the Japanese cities.

Just checked and they are essentially identical plays lists with some minor ordering differences. Lucky!

Ottawa, as Canada's capital, seems fair to include. At (metro populations) of 1.3M it isn't too far off Helsinki's 1.5M – but given Helsinki is Finland's most populous city on top of being the capital, doesn't make sense to exclude it. So maybe swap Winnipeg/Quebec for Helsinki/Stockholm, but Ottawa I think is fair game.

Giving them the benefit of the doubt: I wonder if Stockholm and Helsinki came down to % of the population who subscribe? Maybe the available data was considered too low volume to be representative? (Or they were just lazy and biased towards North America.)

As for Quebec and Winnipeg ... somebody on a FaceTime meeting must have dictated "let's take Canada's X biggest cities by population and include them?" Only thing I can think of given those two are both in the 800K range. I can sort of see Montréal's and Quebec City having different enough music tastes, given Montréal is the more English-influenced culture of the two (from my limited exposure.)

Anyway, as somebody from Edmonton I am glad you didn't name drop us for "wtf is that on the list" ;). (Edmonton is basically the same size as Ottawa.) Perhaps it came down to an honest "WTF is an Edmonton?" in reading through the list haha.
