Apple Music is now available directly within Google-owned Waze, offering Waze users easier and safer access to enjoy the Apple Music catalog as they commute from within the Waze app on iOS.

Google announced the new integration in a blog post, saying "with a direct connection between the apps, you can now access Apple Music content directly from the Waze Audio Player." Users should make sure they are updated to the latest version of the Waze app and have an active ‌Apple Music‌ subscription to integrate the two services.

finally. waze is still the best mapping app IMO.
Nope. Waze is the only one to steer me wrong. I pull a travel trailer so I need accurate directions so I don't end up somewhere I shouldn't and get stuck. On this last trip waze wanted me to get off the highway, take a bypass, and then get right back on the highway. For no reason at all. It's done that on the same trip 2 years in a row.

I'll run apple maps for nav and my wife will run waze or google maps on her phone as we travel. Waze has done some pretty strange routing for me. Lyft/Uber drivers use waze and when i've needed a ride from work to home, only 15 minutes, waze has had them go some pretty weird inefficient routes.

Whereas apple maps I find actually works the best. Apple and google nav mostly agree though on my last trip during one stretch google maps picked a slightly shorter route saving only minutes but with way more turns and apple maps picked a more efficient route with only 1 turn but took a few minutes longer. This was very much preferable when towing.
I use apple maps to navigate just about everywhere. On our recent trip to maui as well as our last roadtrip to calgary from Oregon. And a roadtrip to san jose, hollywood, LA and back home to Oregon. Worked very well.

And I find it very helpful that apple maps also shows traffic lights and stop signs.

Sure that's your anecdote. I can't tell you how many times Waze routes me around a wreck or traffic that Google and Apple Maps aren't aware of either.

For me the live speedometer is Waze's killer feature. I'm so used to it that I can never switch to another mapping app full time. I know Google Maps has it for Android—never understood why they haven't brought it over to iOS.

Just tried it and only works with iOS app not connected to car play, what’s the point if it doesn’t work on CarPlay

Not really.
Somewhat surprised that Google hasn't just absorbed Waze fully into Google maps.
Appears that Google acquired Waze was to get better mapping services/features which Google is slowly adapting into G maps which is still very good.
Google maps > Waze > Apple Maps.

Waze is good for local traffic conditions but sometimes the GPS is Not that precise with its mapping and directions. Sometimes it'll lead one to the destination via a longer route and it could be a slight distance from where the actual destination is located.

But it also depends on where one lives.
Some people like Apple Maps based on their area but others hate it. That's no different than people using G Maps or Waze.
Comes down to personal preference.

Spotify to the EU:
Apple makes Apple Music available within Waze. This is anti-competitive. They should be forced to allow Apple Music within Spotify.

EU: I’ll allow it

i would the majority does not. there are far more older cars on the road than newer cars. walk through any parking lot you'll see way more phone mounts on dash boards than carplay-enabled screens.
True. Though you can add an aftermarket stereo to get carplay. I have. Some older cars that didn't have carplay you can get retro kits to enable it in certain cases, without having to replace the headunit, such as in my wifes 2018 mazda.
There are also various adapters you can use to add carplay to existing stereos as long as they have displays.

So several options if one wishes. Carplay is pretty amazing.

Unfortunately, does not work with just the Music app/iTunes Match/iCloud Library. *HAVE* to be an Apple Music subscriber. So, a little disappointed -- as already mentioned, not everyone has CarPlay or is a music streaming service subscriber (that's me).

It'd be nice if Waze would just allow music library access. I still control music/podcasts in the car with Siri and steering wheel buttons, it would just be nice to have something cool like this available.

I would love if Apple added even just the info on speed limits when you're not navigating. Just whatever road I'm currently on, tell me what the speed limit is. Although, here in Toronto, they've changed a bunch of speed limits in the last year and many of them on my usual routes haven't been updated in Apple Maps yet. I would also personally love it Apple made a deal with the City of Toronto the way Google did for Waze so they could have the most up to date traffic/road information.

Waze was much better before Google bought it. I don't understand even how Google did this when it was open source?

ETA: I dug around a bit and see there's a huge lawsuit from the open source programmers who got ripped off. Basically a scumbag just stole their hard work and got $1bil. But that's our world now.

I looked just last month to add CarPlay to my 2012 sedan and couldn’t get it done for less than $1000. Not worth it.

oh you can do it. I did in my truck, new pioneer headunit with wireless carplay plus idatalink to handle all the vehicle controls and information normally controlled through the headunit and it was $800. A quick look on crutchfield shows carplay headunits as low as $230 and that's retail. Install kit with a new bezel and wiring isn't much. Depending on things you can do it in your driveway in a couple of hours. It's not hard. Go to an installer and it will cost more of course. Some vehicles do have unique setups so in some few cases it could be more difficult.

Using a retro kit and taking our mazda to the dealer to do it is $400.
