30m people have never tried Spotify.

I wouldn't be too sure about that ;) I used Spotify from the moment it started and switched to Apple Music full time last year... Spotify has been slow to work on fixing bugs and implement new (useful) features (and at the same tame taking away a decent iPad app for a blown up iPhone version). Apple Music is now just as reliable and Apple seems to be upping the pace on new feature implementation. Also iCloud Music Library now (after a year of absolute trash, agreed) works like a charm!

Spotify has been wasting time on a half-done Podcast implementation, "Behind the Lyrics" (whilst taking away app support on the desktop) and still doesn't allow more than 10,000 items in the "Your Music" section, whilst splitting Playlists and the Library up completely. Apple Music is now a serious contender. I just wished they would ditch Jimmy Iovine and concentrate on music features, not rubbish shows people don't want or need in the Music app.

EDIT: btw my fiancée and my dad also recently switched. They're more than happy after problems with Spotify. My fiancée also suffered from a sub-par customer service experience with Spotify, with which I mean: Non-existent.

I tried AM when it first launched and it screwed up my whole library so I cancelled after the free trial. It definitely was not ready for prime time. But I wasn't paying for Spotify yet either. I just had a very large personal library. Eventually, I went the Spotify Premium route. Excellent playlists. I love being able to control the device that's playing w/ other devices that have Spotify installed. I definitely bought into the streaming music idea. I LOVE the Daily Mixes.

But after the whole Snowy acquisition and their clear intention to shelve this product rather than be honest to their customers really just pushed me back to AM. So I gave it another try and it's much better now. This time, I started from scratch - an empty library. And anything that was missing from AM, I added in as I went. But most of whatever I was looking for, was there. I use Houdini to transfer Spotify playlists to AM (including my Daily Mixes). And now I have music on my Watch (though we've got other issues w/ Watch OS4 and the music app).

I do miss being able to use other devices as "remotes" to control playback but neither are perfect so I'll stick with the one that suits me best. YMMV

You can add songs to Spotify too.

Yeah, but they do not integrate in my Music Library. I need to plug in my phone on my Mac to sync them.
Apple Music on the other hand allows you to edit the metadata which means that you can add missing songs from an album to your library, and they literally sit alongside the Apple Music Songs. Plus, sync, stream and download from any device

I tried Spotify as well and didn't care for it. AM works great for what I use it for and the Siri integration is awesome.

This is a good point; I don't ever think about this since I have the service. I'm curious why it's crap now?

Several things happened when they integrated AM into the music app that made listening to music for non-AM subscribers anywhere from a hassle to downright painful.

One was the automatic display of ALL iTunes/iCloud purchases being displayed at the top level of the Music app. This is the behavior with or without AM turned on. This is extremely inconvenient if you don't want the soundtracks you purchased for your wife or the lullaby's you purchased for your kids or the U2 album Apple foisted on it's users, to appear in your library. This also caused another headache...

If you don't want all those purchases, that you didn't download/sync, in your library, and you don't want to use your data for streaming, or just can't, you have to go into "Downloaded Music" every single time you want to use the music app the way you used to be able to use the app out-of-the-box. Which I assume is the way myself and anyone else not subscribing to AM would like to use the app.

I could go on, but I have work to do...

In essence, they borked the music app for anyone who doesn't subscribe to AM, anyone who doesn't want to stream their music, and anyone that spends any time at all curating the music and playlists they sync to their phones. Not even to mention the headaches of using music on CarPlay without AM.

Why don't you just hide those purchases you don't' want to see on your phone?

Playlists are the the main reason I went to Spotify over Apple Music. The ability to share them, see people's playlists, etc. Also, the automatic mixes Spotify does for me are pretty good. I do prefer Apple Music because the app is better and the integration is better (for obvious reasons). Just can't beat the Spotify playlists though.

I've kept my free Spotify account and move playlists as needed, including my Daily Mixes. Best of both worlds, really.

I've got good news for you. With iOS 11 and High Sierra it's possible to share public and private playlists on Apple Music.

Apple should really open up the free trial again so people could try this out. For ppl who have already done the 3-month trial, let them try the new features for 30 days. I bet a lot more people would switch.

I tried it, didn't like it. Simple.

Me as well. I prefer Apple’s interface and overall user experience.

Don't you mean 30m people want better sounding audio and switched to Apple Music?

Playlists work great on Apple Music. Spotify is horrible sound quality. Even paid. They use mp3. The audio spectrum for that codec is horrible compared to AAC.

I wondered why music sounded better on Apple Music.

I’d like it if Apple added more video and karaoke like lyrics.

Shazam used to have that.

I would love to have Apple Music service, but not for that price...
I agree. My music library is so large already, plus I never spend more than $10 or 20 a year on music. I can't see myself spending that much a year on music I don't get to keep if I end the service. Perhaps my habits will change one day.

if only AM had a little better working for you playlist algorithms and concerts / documentaries (instead of shows like planet of the apps...)

I subscribed to Apple Music and liked it however iCloud Music Library kept messing up my music library. It would not upload some songs even after I deleted them from my library and re-added them. A grayed out cloud icon would appear on the track.

I wish Apple had kept the ability to sync music to iPhone from iTunes on Mac/PC with Apple Music/iCloud Music Library enabled.

I now use Amazon Music Unlimited for streaming. Also Prime Members receive a discount, which is nice.

Why don't you just hide those purchases you don't' want to see on your phone?

You can't. They show up in your library regardless. Many of my issues with the app would be resolved if they added one, simple toggle in the music settings... "Display iCloud music not on this phone: Yes/No"

Odd I have tons of my old purchases -- Going back to 2003 not on phone and hidden just fine.

This is what Marvis supports, to allow user to hide cloud music completely.
Apple is now transitioning to an expert of ***** people so that they can move on with their agenda. I use stock music app a lot still cause it is yet to become unusable. Plus the ability to mess around a bit with playlist on device.

Only because apple does not allow third party integration. Most people find that too cumbersome. If spotify could have the ease of use that AM has i bet a lot of people would make the switch. I for one have not even used my free 3 month trial because spotify is spot on.
