I've seen this mentioned a couple of times now, that the sound quality is worse? Is that a fact or something people just say for whatever reason?

Apple hasn't released any official information about codecs and quality used. But if you Google there have been people who did network data capture through iTunes and the beta web player and the traffic was significantly lower.

But Spotify has the same issue. Webplayer is lower quality sound. You can't set quality either. Only the Spotify app has max quality sound quality. Luckily the Spotify app is decent on every platform, unlike iTunes which is the most horrible software program ever made

Got it, thanks. Really weird that both Apple and Spotify do this then. I understand that Apple might want to "encourage" people to use their hardware, but what does Spotify have to gain from it?

Nice and all, but it still keeps stopping in the middle of the song or can't play them at all.

It think it is DRM related. (not sure)

For example the only browser letting you play Netflix in 4K is Edge because it is hooked into Windows PlayReady DRM

Interesting thought. I guess it could also be that it somehow is easier to "rip" the music via a browser plugin or such.

I wonder if that means they've done any tweaking/updating to it. It mostly works but does have issues in IE on work computers. We shall see!

From the look of it, there wasn't much tweaking or updating done. For instance, you still cannot add stuff from your Library to your playlists, which is a disgrace. Back to Beta I say!

A typical Apple web application. Super slow performance, lacking lots of basic functionality and no browser integrations whatsoever.

Functionality:
- missing lyrics
- adding songs to a playlist (really...)
- uploading songs to iCloud Music Library (like YouTube Music / Deezer / Google Play / …)
- No support for picture in picture like Spotify / YouTube Music / …
- No support for global media session like Spotify / YouTube Music etc. in
View attachment 906652
- no drag and drop
- still no handoff to switch between several devices
- no Chromecast support
- no podcast access
- no playlist edit functions (make public / private / remove song / … )
- sound quality is way worse

So just like iCloud.com and Apple TV+ this is another terrible effort. I don't understand why the web developers at Apple are such horrible programmers...

I think it is a bit insulting towards customers. I have an iPad Pro, AirPods Pro, iPhone X, Apple Pencil 2, Smart Keyboard cover, Apple TV+, iCloud 50 GB plan and Apple Music Family. They got a truckload of money from me, yet they keep making my life difficult when I am on my work laptop or gaming desktop. And no I will never ever buy a MacOS-device.

Maybe I should just switch to just using Apple hardware with third party services for everything. If they want their services to succeed they should actually make them available everywhere and with good quality apps and web access. For example: Music and TV+ apps for PlayStation, Xbox, WebOS, Android TV. Decent sites that provide the same quality, performance and functionality as the apps.

I wholeheartedly agree with this!

And while I realize it completely defeats the purpose of having Apple Music on the web, you can install iTunes on your work laptop or desktop and it has all the required Apple Music features. That's what I've been doing anyway. :)

Im expecting 10 years from now everything to be browser-based. That includes pro apps as well. Devices will be light weight with long batteries.
Not likely. Many pro apps will continue to push the boundaries of what the latest hardware can do, and browser-based applications will always underperform native code, which is a very important consideration when time is money. On top of that, there are serious security concerns with the internet in general. Concerns which significantly limit what one can do with web apps, and which don't apply as much to native software. I'd be willing to buy that most consumer apps will go web-only though.

I’m no audiophile, but FWIW, to me the audio does sound worse than using the Music app.

Now do FaceTime.apple.com so that Android, Windows and ChromeOS users can participate in FaceTime calls and give Zoom a run for its money.

Oh, please make FaceTime available for non-Apple users. There’s always that one person that has Android or something.

iMessage and FaceTime for all 🙏

You can get it to open in Chrome or any third party browser on iOS.
One thing I hate about Safari on iOS. I wish there was a setting where I could turn off open in app. If I want to use the app I’ll launch the app. If I’m in Safari that means I don’t want to use the app.

Doesn't matter because according Baymowe, a.k.a the Apple broker, the balance sheet is fine so we should only praise Apple under Timo's leadership.

The web player will not advance to the next song for me – it plays the current song, then just stops. Anyone else experiencing this?

Edit: I should mention: Chrome on 10.15.3. I'm also behind a pretty aggressive firewall/proxy server, so that might be it.

Edit 2: Musi.sh does it too, so probably a firewall/proxy issue on my end. Oh well.

Is this the same as https://musi.sh or worse? As of now Musish is more functional. Go check it out.

Wow, thanks for this! I somehow missed that this even existed – far superior to Apple's player.

Also, we’re all going to be running desktop Linux…

I “laugh” voted you because I get that joke. I was there during that time. And I mean “there”, on the inside. I tried to appeal HP at the time for a refund on my Windows OEM install on my laptop by refusing the EULA when I installed Slackware. Didn’t work, of course.

iTunes on Windows makes my development laptop and my gaming desktop rig come to a crawl.
Functionality is great. Execution, performance and visual design terrible

Runs great on my 10-year old i7 Lynnfield desktop with Win10, 16GB RAM and an SSD. No local music library either.

Did you rip all your CDs to Ogg Vorbis?

Just switch to Spotify or Tidal and enjoy the music. The iPod was revolutionary but Apple's approach to music has always been a frustrating, expensive, disappointment.
