Still a great deal. Wish I had all the money I spent on tapes and CD's when I was in school.
They are probably desperate to maintain the main £9.99/$9.99 headline price for regular users. Once this breaks the £10/$10 barrier I expect more people will cancel. And what is the reason for this 20% increase?
What was the reason for $4.99 in the first place? And what is the reason for this 20% increase?
It's called inflation. Business costs are going up everywhere – including infrastructure costs for running massive streaming services. Costs raise, and companies pass price hikes on to customers to cover those increasing costs. I'm upset I can no longer buy a new car for $3,000 like I could in the 1960s, but I don't blame the CEOs of Ford and GM.But ofc they are. Timmy C never met an opportunity to nickle & dime to profit even more he didn't like....
Gotta pay for that new office building no one wants to work at.And what is the reason for this 20% increase?

I see this so many time in many forums « Apple Music sounds better than Spotify «Apple Music has great features like shared playlists and profiles. In many ways, Apple Music better than Spotify for social discovery experiences. Apple Music sounds better, is more social, and is baked right into the overarching iOS/iPadOS/macOS/tvOS/watchOS experience.
Apple getting ahead of the possible (i.e. very likely) increase in the streaming royalty rate for 2023 to 2027 period that the Copyright Royalty Board will be deciding on very soon since the current period (2018 to 2022) will be expiring. And what is the reason for this 20% increase?
Apple must be broke. And what is the reason for this 20% increase?
Doubt. lolThis will drive students to Spotify. $1 less per month plus Hulu and Showtime.
Students could get Pandora for free...Yea that’s it Apple. Squeeze an extra dollar out of students who don’t have it. You really are the scum of the earth.
It is an enjoyable but unnecessary service for students, with many of them using more than the rest of us but paying much less, thus unfairly making us subsidize them. Our price might still increase, but the increase would be more if the student prices stay the same.Yea that’s it Apple. Squeeze an extra dollar out of students who don’t have it. You haven't paid much attention to Apple under Tim Cook have you?I just don't see the reason for the increase. Unless the standard plan is increasing too, why target students for more money? I don't get it.
So how about Apple eat the cost instead of squeezing people.Apple getting ahead of the possible (i.e. very likely) increase in the streaming royalty rate for 2023 to 2027 period that the Copyright Royalty Board will be deciding on very soon since the current period (2018 to 2022) will be expiring.
I think it's also why Amazon raised Amazon Music subscription prices back in May.
I expect Spotify and others to follow with rate increases soon/sometime this year

Tbh the one and only reason I use Apple Music is because it's baked into the Siri/Shazam functionality (and because the family has Apple One) and I use that a lotApple Music has great features like shared playlists and profiles. True, just a shame they're taking this unnecessary choice. It's not like they need the cash - student actually do at the moment. Everything is increasing and this will surely switch more people off... although I imagine they'll have a sneaky plan to hide the increase notice at the bottom of a spam email. You haven't paid much attention to Apple under Tim Cook have you?
In which ways? I can see it wrecking playlists.
Good. I don't want to subsidize them too much.
Not if people have AppleOne plans. Why double pay for music?I’d bet most subscribers are with Spotify already.
