My son is in high school (actually the equivalent here in the UK). He is a member of Unidays and qualifies for a student discount on Spotify. Unfortunately, Apple only offers the Apple Music discount to college/university students so my son does not qualify. He (and his friends) therefore all subscribe to Spotify. I guess Apple is not concerned about trying to encourage subscriber support and loyalty from a younger age.

I've always wondered about this with Apple in general. All of their "student" deals are for college students only, it seems like if you make a kid an Apple fan early (say in middle or high school) you've made an Apple customer for life. Oh well, I guess Apple marketing knows better than all the other tech companies who have a more expansive definition of "student."

You pay for what you get. You know in such a heavily censored country, there would be nothing much available over there.

Hahaha... That's funny. You clearly know nothing about China nor have lived in China. Give me any artist, and there's a 99% chance I can find it on any streaming services, local or foreign.

Really???
Ok, find this one:
Freedom - Pharrell Williams.
And this one:
Paint A Future - NANA.
Looking forward to your reply.

I couldn't find Paint a Future -NANA But then again, I couldn't find it on English websites either. I'm assuming is some Anime music. Which, way to be esoteric. So, yeah.

Did you read the article?

Apple today began offering Apple Music Student Memberships in 25 additional countries around the world, cutting the cost of an Apple Music subscription by approximately 50 percent for students enrolled in a college or university. The discounts provided to students vary based on country.

It's for college students, not high school students. What is next, someone being mad because their middle school kid can't get a student discount?

Yes, I am aware and did read the Apple T&Cs. My point is that in my view Apple is missing an opportunity to hook in users from an earlier age by matching the student discount eligibility that Spotify offers. I am in no way angry with Apple for its policy nor complaining. It is of no concern to me as I don't qualify for the discount either way as my student days are long over.

Huh?
Yeah. Second one is Anime music which is pretty much belonging to "minority".
But I thought you found that on Apple Music cause the discussion context is on Apple Music. Seems that you find it by simply searching on, Baidu? Whatever it is. So yeah.

Freedom is still on Apple Music. When I search NADA I get some Korean Band. But, generally, Anime music sucks on most music streaming. Cowboy Bebop, Seatbelts, and other Anime music I like, aren't on AM. It would be interesting to see what music service has the best Anime OST catalogue.

There are almost no best Anime music catalog available now even in Japan. But if you add up Mora, ototoy, e-onkyo together, that might be the case.

In college, you're usually paying your own way. HS discounts would not be a hook in for the students, it would be a discount for the parents, which misses the whole point of the discount (to save college students money).

My children receive a modest monthly allowance to spend as they choose. My high school son chooses to subscribe to Spotify, a decision he made based on a cost-benefit analysis of Spotify vs Apple Music. He is not alone in this thinking among his school friends (notwithstanding he and many of his friends have iPhones and other Apple devices). Having become accustomed to Spotify I doubt he will switch to Apple Music if/when he qualifies for a discount when he hopefully starts university in 2 years time.

An allowance of your money. As I said, it's a student discount, not a mommy and daddy discount. A HS discount benefits you more so than the student, as "children" are still dependent on their parents in HS. College in the US is very expensive and many students pay their own way, so they appreciate all the discounts they can get. Even if a parent is helping with college tuition, this is a period where discounts are appreciated as students are working for the adequate title for a career to maintain themselves financially.

Okay, by your logic my children should never be offered a student discount because I have already funded and expect to fully pay for their college educations and associated expenses. Thanks for clearing that up for me.

No, by my logic you should not be receiving a discount. You're starting to sound entitled. You're free to pay for your kids, but you can't blame Apple for not offering a student discount to those still being fully supported by mommy and daddy. I still don't think you're understanding the point of student discounts.

So my son gets the student pricing on Apple hardware in the Apple Store for students but not the student pricing on Apple Music. No matter, he and his friends will likely continue with Spotify.

And I don't appreciate being told I am "starting to sound entitled". How condescending!

Oh really? Interesting, Apple's educational discounts on hardware is also only for college students.

Shop at the Apple Store for Education and save on a new Mac and a new iPad. Education pricing is available to college students, students accepted to college, parents buying for college students, faculty, homeschool teachers, and staff at all grade levels.*

This might be a shock, but having a high school degree is expected. It isn't remarkable. College is much more expensive. And I doubt Apple is losing sleep over your son and his friends using Spotify.

This might be a shock, but the education system in the UK is not identical to the US and the Apple Store for Education in the UK also differs. I guess you have never heard of the Sixth Form in the UK.

And you've also said that your kid is in High School and that you give him a monthly allowance (which you want a discount for... guess he must go through daddy's modest allowance quickly)

I have never put anyone on ignore before on any forum. Congratulations, you are the first.
