Ok, I just did this. I'm interested to see if this is true (I know it has happened when I do web searches).
I tried it once after I saw a video about it and shockingly it worked.
Needless to say I deleted the Facebook app immediately, but I know I am still being tracked by Amazon, Google and probably Microsoft in other ways which I cannot avoid, because similar things still happen to both me and my wife that can only be explained by surveillance by tracking.
I thought it was coincidence that certain products would be advertised to me after I've talked about or searched for them, but then it kept happening. It's creepy and I don't like it.
I will never buy a smartspeaker.

Which companies don't have your personal information? Amazon, Google, and yes Apple using your info to improve products, services, and sell ads... so what? None of them are selling your info, because it's valuable to them. "You are the product" is a tired meme that needs to die, even though it's true. Even at Apple.
Mac OS of the 90s is a different beast compared to today. How many people outside a small amount of professionals and in schools used Macs in the 90s?They already tried that in the 90s and it didn't work well.
The whole idea of a smart speaker is doing these things hands free. You are likely going to have an Iphone or Ipad if you have a Homepod so you don’t need the HP to output to another speaker (and why would you—its excellent on its own-even better with 2). I output to bluetooth speakers (boom2s) all the time outside with my iphone.
Don't expect a HomePod 2 then. A lot of folks wasted $349
I don't see this as a threat to HomePod. HomePod's audio quality is miles ahead of anything Amazon offers. I've experienced this personally, and the reviews say the same. But it has a steep price tag.
Amazon Echo devices are low cost. They are on the lower end in terms of audio (I found this especially noticeable in bass). But this solves the cost issue.
Until Apple launches a lower-cost speaker, having Apple Music on Echo devices are a good thing. But I don't see this as a negative for HomePod.
Planning to murder someone in your own home? Or planning to be murdered as an insurance scam and don't want it solved?
I've just finished listening to Steve Job's autobiography again as I do every six months or so...
Apple is fast becoming the company they were when Steve was ousted.
Sprawling product lines, too many SKU's. They need to bring back that laser precision focus they once had.
"iTunes on Windows made sense as it sold more iPods"
Apple Music on Android and Amazon Echo, not so sure that's a great idea.
I have 5 (2 Google and 3 Amazon). I received them all for free through various promos (okay, I paid $1 for a 3 month Spotify plan that also included a Google Home Mini). They are useful for checking news, setting timers, controlling IOT devices, and getting quick answers to various questions.
Perhaps. When my 2015 13MBP dies I'm not sure I can justify the extra cost of a new MBP compared to a Dell XPS. Having had a 15" XPS a couple of years ago, I am fully aware that they are not as good as a MBP, but the price difference for the extra 10% imo build quality and OS doesn't add up.Sounds like a lot of work without much return.
Once you setup your default music app in Alexa, it will always pick Spotify/Apple Music etc when you say "Alexa, play Green Day" for instance.I hope you can say "Alexa play X" instead of "Alexa play X on Apple Music".
Personally, I do not care if it listens to my conversations. I am not doing anything illegal.
Just replaced my Echo with a HomePod on Black Friday because of lack of Apple Music. Ugh.
Or maybe iMessage on Amazon's Fire tablets only. Yes I know they run Android but it's a custom version without the Google app store, etc.Coming next from Apple, iMessage on Android
So how much are amazon paying apple for this?
Yeah but the great thing is that now I have no reason to buy a $349 less versatile speaker to play Apple music and control my smart home because I already have nice speakers that can do it with a cheap echo dot. Sure it's not as pretty. But it's certainly better sound connected to a home theater etc.You are likely going to have an Iphone or Ipad if you have a Homepod so you don’t need the HP to output to another speaker (and why would you—its excellent on its own-even better with 2). I output to bluetooth speakers (boom2s) all the time outside with my iphone.
