Just imagine a world where your play counts sync reliably across all your devices regardless of whether they’re iOS, iPadOS, MacOS or Android!

I mean, we’ve been told this is a thing Music can do for YEARS and yet Music can NOT do that and as a consequence most of my smart playlists are now useless.

In my experience, anything iCloud is hit-and-miss at best. I’ve actually disabled it on almost everything except Music (lol), Mail, Keychain and Calendars. Mainly because it just plain doesn’t work properly, or certainly not reliably. Sometimes not at all. But the worst part of that, is that many apps manage to regain access anyway because the toggle has re-enabled itself without my permission. Even if the app UI still shows it as disabled and hasn’t been interacted with.

Apple in 2023 are a mess. They make nice, shiny hardware, but their software and services are fast becoming a calamity. I don’t even believe one word of their alleged focus on security & privacy anymore. They’re suspiciously quiet vis-à-vis UK & EU attempts to subvert encryption and gain surveillance access to private communication.

And what is that mandatory lock screen camera all about that gives any actor the ability to de facto upload unsolicited images to your iCloud Photos? With the advent of Face ID it’s not even necessary from a convenience standpoint. They are clearly never going to give us the option to disable it. Why? Law enforcement entry vector is my guess, although incompetence is equally as likely. But I digress too much…

I quit spotify back then when they decided to include podcasts from people I really disliked, and made the push for exclusive podcast content with paying subscribers. I don't want to support this kind of industry based on provocation and extraction of every single cent they can squeeze out of my pockets.
I also had commercial issues where they charged more than what they should, linked my account to facebook when I didn't use that account anymore, very shady stuff like that.
I've also waited until they decided to get HD/spatial music, but that never came (maybe it's there now, dunno)

That being said, as a music streaming service at least it worked. Suggestions are spot on most of the time, adding songs to a playlist is instant, no sync errors.
Using Apple music is a chore, and most of the features are tailored for Californian listeners and their tastes. Anybody else can just deal with it or go f* themselves as someone said.
Why is it taking a full minute to add a single song I'm currently listening to to my playlist ? It's not that hard ! Just add a line to the playlist and voila! No connection? Well just sync that later, shouldn't be a problem... well no you just can't. And half the time it adds the song to the library, but not the playlist. I can reload all I want, it's not there. Then I add it again and now there's two copies of the same song, like if it was there from the beginning.

Apple music, but I would say iOS and Apple software in general these days, is trolling me constantly. You can say whatever you want, at least if that happened back in the day, heads would have gone flying with Steve. In the meatime, Tim is just a money counting machine (and it works who would blame him, but we are the losers here).

Rant over.

I would be happy with just being able to add music to playlists at all. It's been getting harder and clunkier over the last few years and now has stopped working altogether for me. If I go to an album and say, "add to new playlist" it seems to work - but the playlist cannot be found. If I create a new playlist then go to add music to it the playlist is not visible in that view. If I try to drag the music to the playlist in the sidebar (this is on macOS) then it thinks about it for about 30s then creates 11 copies of the playlist, each with 11 copies of all the songs. If I then remove all but one of the playlist and all but one of each copy of the songs then the playlist becomes empty.

There just seems to be no way to do it any more. 🤷‍♂️

I've noticed that when I try to add a track to a playlist from the Add Music button at the bottom, that it will add, but then frequently remove, the song I just added. Pretty annoying, but the only bug I've encountered so far.

I was browsing just now through my library, and noticed one album has the same song repeated three times. Literally for a regular edition, a deluxe album edition, and a single release. Same song, same length, no variations, just repeated 3 times within the same album.

Fun times.
This gives me such a headache 😅 I'd pop into a random Apple Playlist and see a song that I know is Favourited, and on that playlist it doesn't show/isn't. I'd go to the Album, and see its Deluxe or something else 🤯

They should just sync those same liked songs together, reckon it would make it easier for them & for us.
