Anyone who plays music from their phone speakers should be publicly flogged anyway.
Agreed. Add to that, anyone playing music or taking calls using their phone speakers in a public setting should be flogged.

Can we also throw a beating on people who use their speaker phone, but hold it up to their mouths to talk?

*I’m not actually advocating violence, and this all should be taken with tongue firmly in cheek.

Such inconsiderate ******s out there!

I’m not carrying a Bluetooth speaker with me when I walk the dog, especially after the way he objected to me trying to strap it it to his back. Also, when I’m gardening or working on the fence. Perhaps you should get out more.

That's why I've got headphones and a Homepod Mini.

I have an aversion to being hit by a car while I’m walking my dog, because headphones are blocking out all the noise versus listening to the speakers and hearing ambient noise that goes on around me. Also, fumbling with headphones while picking vegetables or trimming branches, pouring concrete or rolling up chain link fence with headphones on is simply a recipe for disaster. Any more silly questions?
Transparency on AirPods Pro solves the first problem, but if the premium price is a deterrent, there are cheap headphones that don’t cover your whole ear, and there are also bone conducting headphones. None of these should really involve fumbling unless they’re the wrong fit. But as long as you’re not subjecting the public to that dreadful noise from your phone, if it works for you that’s all that matters.

I have AirPods and they are basically disposable headphones as the battery simply doesn’t last anywhere near as long now and I have zero intention of giving Apple any more of my money for AirPods in any form. Secondly, losing an AirPod in dirt or concrete is an unwise way to waste my hard earned money when one or both of them eventually fall out on a hot day. Thirdly, dangling headphone wires just gets in the way of physical labor. Fourthly, I am and will continue subjecting the general public in the immediate vicinity to that dreadful noise from my phone as I see fit. Thank you for your feedback.

And I should know that you live out of suitcase and travel the world?

I have headphones and AirPods, I don’t use them walking the dog or working in the backyard. Don’t have a HomePod mini yet, but planning to get one. Won’t change the other situations, though. Still going to be listening to music and podcasts from those tiny speakers.

Thanks to this post I learned you can use HomePod mini without Wi-Fi (it seems Wi-Fi is just required for set-up). That's a neat feature and I can imagine HomePod mini being an excellent little audio device when travelling around the planet. (Maybe a future version could have MagSafe on the bottom, and a battery pack accessory.)

True story.

However, I also recommend a GL.iNet dual radio travel router.

I can keep all my devices connected to this one router.

I then connect this router to the hotel/apartment Wifi.

And all my gear stays on one private network, with a VPN of my choice.

Eg. I can run my Apple TV on hotel WiFi with a VPN.
