It’s been that way … forever. There’s nothing unreasonable about it. This not including a charger in the box thing is a very recent concept.
So? Apple should be able to sell their products how they want. It’s just a shame some countries don’t bepiece in freedom.

Yeah you’re right. A nearly 3T company should be able to afford it. Thanks for pricing my point. Corporations aren’t your friend.

If that's your logic, then what else should consumers be allowed to demand with their iPones because "Apple can afford it"? Apple's not demanding anything. They're simply not including a charger. I've never thought of corporations as my "friend". If I like their product or service, I use it. If I don't, I look elsewhere. I don't run to the government or a lawyer and demand they modify their product or service offerings to suit by fancy.

If that were the case they wouldn't wrap every single device they make in plastic.

Also, I bought a bunch of accessories from Apple last year (adapters, charging cords, AC adapter, etc.) and none of them had plastic shrink-wrap either (just the pull tab).

I agree with you but this is not about Apple not knowing the regulations. They did knew, they just didn’t want to comply. The hundreds of millions they save with a smaller package and not including an adapter triumphs whatever fine they have.

If I buy a PlayStation, does it automatically come with games?

if I buy a Playstation game, does it come with a Playstation?

if I buy a car does it come with gas, or a gas station?

if I buy frozen raviolis, do they come with a stove, and electricity, and a house, and bowls, and utensils?

if I buy glasses, do they come with glasses cleaner for the inevitable circumstance of them getting dirty and I can’t see through them?

if I buy a plant, am I automatically supplied with the cup to pour the water with? (No, I might already have a cup which I can use, kind of like how I might already have a power adapter).

the funny thing is that many of the same folks who complain about Apple not including a power adapter in the box also complain that Apple has an unfair advantage in shipping their own stock apps on their devices, like Safari, Photos, etc. It’s unfair that Apple ships stock device usage apps? Yeah, that’d be great if you start up your iPhone and you can’t surf the web or send messages.

The thing is, i lean toward the side of “you should get a power adapter as part of the package”. But the moral extremism of the folks who are just so upset by adapters not being included really confuses me. It’s not black and white.

And don't forget many devices don't include batteries. And as I said to another poster earlier, the Mac Mini doesn't include a keyboard or mouse. I guess all these product sales are illegal in Brazil, LOL! Absolute insanity.

I always knew the pain and suffering caused by trying to find a $3 power adapter at my local gas station, Walmart, grocery store checkout line, Amazon, or junk drawer was worth around $997 dollars..

I am not convinced that most 10 to 15-year-old computers have 5W USB ports. Anything newer than 2012 shouldn't be considered as part of the average user.
I mean I haven’t tested every one but I am sure most computers I have used in the last 15 years could charge an iPhone.

I can see an issue if they don’t support always on USB though, like you have to keep the computer on to charge the phone. That has been around for 10 years but it’s not very common even today. It’d be annoying to keep your computer on all night just to charge your phone.

At one point, it seemed plausible that Brazil would have forced Apple to include a charger in the box for every ‌iPhone‌ sold in the country. Procon-SP said that the charger is an "essential part" of the smartphone experience.

Really?!?! Rubbish!!!!

Dang! Does this mean that I can sue an auto manufacturer for not supplying me with gas for the life of my car? After all, gas is an essential part of the car experience.

The most ridiculous comparison I've seen on the topic. Gas to cars is what electricity is to iPhones, not the charger. No one expects apple to provide electricity for their iPhone.

Crazy. I can't begin to imagine how hard it must be to decipher regulations in every country where Apple sells their products, to ensure they don't get cross-ways with some obscure requirement.
It isn't easy but Brazil isn't a small country either, Apple should have known. They have to pay their "fine" and fix the problem going forward. (and hope nobody else sues) You make the mistake, you pay for it. I certainly don't have any sympathy for Apple on this.

How much you want to bet someone gets a much bigger settlement when someone sues Apple for not including a keyboard and mouse in the box for a Mac Studio? (I'm irked about that one myself) Tie in sales is the Apple way of doing things.

Did your car not come with any gas when you bought it? All mine sure have. To be a similar thing, it would not have any gas in it at all.

So, I’ll buy a TV without charging brick, or a kettle without its lead, a car without wheels. Ridiculous. The option should be the consumers.

Do you require a charger (bear in mind your old one will work just fine)
No, I have one
Great, enjoy your phone.

Yes, I wish to sell my old phone, with charger.
Here you go, sir, one charger to accompany your new phone.

I disagree with you as much as it is possible to disagree with anyone. Our environmental problems are the accumulated damage of millions of consumers making the wrong decision. "I didn't really need one, but they were free." "I got what I was entitled to." and on and on. I realize I am being extremely cynical about the average person, but solutions to these problems are going to look like big companies forced to do unpopular things that pull waste out of the process, like this one. There is a notion of capturing the cost of negative externalities of e-waste and this outweighs any one consumer's feelings on the matter.

It's a fallacy to think you wouldn't pay extra for the charger if it were included in the box.
Given how the price didn't go down when they stopped including the charger, one can easily assume that putting it back in shouldn't raise the price any. Apple lost the argument when they didn't lower the cost any.

They don't. LOL

They have started to reduce plastic. The iPhone 13 packaging only uses cardboard and paper tape. I don't think my iPad Pro had much plastic compared to previous years.

Also, I bought a bunch of accessories from Apple last year (adapters, charging cords, AC adapter, etc.) and none of them had plastic shrink-wrap either (just the pull tab).

I bought an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil in February and they were wrapped in plastic. And as far as I know all MacBook boxes are also wrapped in plastic as are the chargers included with devices. So what devices do they not wrap in plastic then?

So how long before Apple just packs up and leave the Brazilian market?

They would rather do that than pay everyone $1,000 for not including a charger.

(And yes, it saved money because of the 5G modem, but at same time, it was a massive environmental move that saved lot of chargers from going to the dumps, and now all companies are copying it….)

As my post indicated, iPhone 13 has no shrinkwrap and neither do any iPhone/Mac accessories that I've bought such as chargers, adapters, power cables, etc. I don't believe my iPad Air 4 I purchased last summer (no longer have) had shrinkwrap either, but I couldn't swear to that. But the others I can. But some is better than none!

I think all phones should come with chargers. My old iPhone 7 went to my wife years ago. My new phone came with a charger. Of course she uses the old charger that went with the 6. I don't think MOST people have chargers lying around. You either sell or give your old phone away and the charger goes with it.
