my problem is the only cable provider i can choose from offers nothing vis streaming so most likely wont work for me super sad :(

I cut the cord too.

But Apple's history hasn't been cheaper than the competition. Now has it? What would be the point? No idea - do you? All speculation.

Case in point: Apple's streaming service. Not really cheaper than the competition. Not that much different or better either.

As for a better user experience. Well - I guess that depends on what you want or expect. Not everyone agrees on what would or would not be "better"

iTunes Store first started selling songs for $.99 albums for $9.99 which was way cheaper than what regular paying customers were paying. iRadio is FREE. iCloud is FREE. iWork is rumored to be FREE. it's the hardware that is typically more expensive. Not the content.

You guys are missing the point. It's not a cost thing (even though its part of it). It's an ease thing.

I don't use cable because I travel alot. I don't have a TV because i'm in different cities, waiting in airports, or even at home. I switched to the 'e-cable' thing. I like watching tv IN my bed, or on the toilet, or at the airport. Not at HOME ONLY. Apple is becoming the first 'e-cable' company guys :)

You already have it in your pocket. The AppleTV box was just a way for them to get it to your TV.

I'd be happy if Apple simply had more channels like MLB. Pay one annual fee for a sport you like. Chose the game you want to watch. It's ideal.

Let me say this ...

... and I know for a fact that people will downvote it.

I couldn't care less what Apple is negotiating with the content industry.

Here, we don't have Movies and TV Shows in the Cloud, you cannot even redownload stuff you paid for, not talking about on-demand.

The iRadio thingy will never the light of day around here, because everyone wants a piece of the cake before anything is available online.

We don't have Hulu or Netflix, but what we do have is YouTube Ads that are annoying and twice as loud in volume than the original content so you fall of your chair.

We have Game Of Thrones on TV with Ads during the show, not on breaks, that cover a third of the visible screen just to sell you some year old DVD that's now availble ...

So, whatever Apple negotiates and puts on their Apple TV or whatever they name it, I cannot care anymore because they will not make it available.

I understand, it's an uphill battle for them, too. But please stop market these moves as the best innovation ever, because it's not.

It's about money and reach. Apple only can negotiate these deals because of the potential subscribers. They just cherry pick and go for the easiest compromise.

That's simply not true. They just added the tv show Frasier to the UK iTunes store at £20.99 per series in SD. I can buy the box set of all 11 series on DVD from Amazon for £50. That's just one example. iTunes is way more expensive than buying the DVD or BluRay most of the time. You can even buy most CDs cheaper on Amazon than iTunes.

What company do you work for...just curious.

Free? Or by paying $150+ a month for DVR cable... or is there something I'm missing?

Totally free. I only pay for cable internet. Broadcast TV is in the cable, free of charge. I don't need a DVR because I have EyeTV.

[...snip...]

FYI, you could probably use a VPN or Smart DNS service to get American Netflix & Hulu+ on your AppleTV.

That is one very nice thing about the 'cloud' nature of streaming services. You can watch half a show on your iPad and then a few days later pickup where you left off on your laptop, AppleTV or iPhone.

Yep. So I can download the Time Warner App for the Apple TV to get HD channels without a big clunky box.

I just had Charter hooked up at my house. The installer hinted that Charter was patterning with TiVo to make an Apple TV like box when I was shocked at the clunky boxes Charter installed at my house. The Charter cable box is clunky at best. I told the installer I thought local storage for DVRs was a waste and h replied that Charter will be going to a cloud-based system with the upcoming TiVo system. Too bad there is usually only one choice for cable providers.

I know, thank you for the suggestion though.

My point was that Apple is not better or worse than any offering from Amazon, Sky or whatever is available here. They just market their innovation more aggressively than others.

I honestly took the time to compare what titles are available and what languages and features they offer.

They aren't that different if you live in Europe. All are way too late, are cut / remastered because of dubbing or regulations and mostly don't come in HD.

(I know that Apple only offers real 1080p for rent around here, but it's my perception that Apple's 720p format is quite good. I've seen worse)

I mostly browse on iTunes and order BR's/DVD's on Amazon, I only buy movies if I'm really bored.

iTunes Radio is ad-free via the iTunes Match which costs $24.99 per year. Not free. There's a free version WITH ads. Not exactly the best model to prove your point, now is it?

iCloud is free. for 5GB. +10GB is $20/year; +20 gig is $40/year and so on.

So yes - Apple's give you "something" for free. But after the free part - their costs are more than their competitors. So I stand by my original point.

And as for iTunes - music now isn't any cheaper. Movies aren't cheaper - and in fact, many times more expensive.

iTunes match is a steal. The extra iCloud storage is expensive but who needs it.

They got a lot more shows that Netflix does not have, like the Stargate series, Falling Skies from TNT, most Viacom shows and they also a lot more FX TV series than Netflix.

My issue with Amazon Prime is that they intentionally crippled AirPlay on their iOS app. Such a pain. You can get it to work from the web I think but you have to use mirroring... so you can't use the Apple Remote.

Am I the only one who likes commercials? Without them I wouldn't discover a lot of products I now own.
I detest them. Apple is one of the only companies that makes commercials I don't want to mute or pause within 1 millisecond of them starting.

Those Häagen dazs Hulu commercials with the mouths make me want to vomit. It's always a mad dash for the TV remote MUTE button!

Missing the point. The OP was implying that Apple offers things cheaper or free in comparison to its competitors. This is not true.
