Subscription announcement sounds lame. 150 games at launch I think it said? Are these actual full length/engaging titles, or just a bunch of mobile games, I wonder?

A previously reported "Netflix for Games" subscription service that Apple has been working on may be shown at the Apple Event scheduled for Monday, March 25.

Bloomberg reports that beyond Apple's news and video services which are expected to debut on Monday, Apple may be ready to unveil a similar gaming service.
The monthly service fee would be divided amongst the games in the service based on how much time is spent in each game. The service would likely focus on paid games rather than the popular free-to-play genre.

Bloomberg isn't certain the service will debut Monday, but Apple has certainly cleared the way for a focus on new services for the event. Earlier this week, Apple quietly debuted new AirPods, iMacs, and iPads.

You can buy an xbox one or PS4 Pro for about $400 which lasts about 5 years. In the same time you'd spend $3000 on this subscription service.
Which one? I was referring to the streaming ones like Nvidia's and Google's. With the Xbox, you'd still have to pay $50-$80 per game, and I feel like most people I know with consoles have spent more than $3000 on games within 5 years.

That's what they said when OnLive came out. It still hasn't (yet?). Maybe they have figured out the challenges here.
Yeah, that company is pre-2015, and cloud computing has been moving pretty quickly lately. GPU-equipped cloud servers are now a lot more common. Also, millions have now dealt with Fortnite's crazy patch sizes and might be looking for an easier way for whatever resource-demanding and super popular game is next.

There's also the internet latency and bandwidth. That hasn't been improving as quickly as anyone would hope, but it still has been.

"Apple have long been working on a streaming games service and there are several high profile games that have been signed and are to be launched." => based on what evidence? As far as I'm aware, this is just a rumor
There's your evidence.
