Clearly, some idiot at Apple doesn’t understand the effectiveness of the Hide My Email feature, and should clearly be fired. Moving this all to a new domain of private.iCloud.com will easily allow sites to tell which are real iCloud accounts and which are Hide My Email accounts, and will allow them to block the use of Hide My email with a 3 second website config change. This will neuter its power.
Everyone that uses this feature should send feedback to Apple and tell them to reconsider.
