I don't subscribe to News+, but I do check out things that interest me on the free Apple News. I like it enough to pay maybe $3 USD/month. Not everything is for everybody.
And I've never tried reading it on a phone. It works great on my desktop.

Most hilarious reasons anyone could come up with.
Real reasons would be 1)Outdated format 2)No REAL material to hold in hands and put under wobbly table 3) Small amount of content 4) Region locked and no regional news content 5) Free and/or payable alternatives 6) Small target audience. I’m sure abolute majority of people under 35 don’t care about subscribing to news app.

You are clearly ignorant of public opinion or a journalist, also ignorant.

It’s too expensive. Period. Either drop the monthly price or give us a cheaper 6/12 month price.

It's not even available here - and might never be.
I would actually be interested in this, but I can't even trial it.

It would at least be time better spent than with Arcade or TV+.

I’m not sure what to do now, read or watch or… Listen? Colour me confused.I know I just have a bite of an apple 🍎 or a banana 🍌 instead.

Add me to the list of folks who aren’t surprised.

Apple should keep its focus on making quality hardware, and software that works. How about some love for HomeKit?

And get back into the photo game with a revamped Aperture.

I tried Apple News+, and it sucks.

I’m not interested in Apple Music, and I’m tired of Apple trying to sign me up whenever I get near iTunes.

Apple TV+ is likely to be another dud in my household.

At least iCloud is finally at a point where it’s useable

I think the poor layout and execution of the app (for magazine and newspaper reading) is a big reason why there hasn't been any meaningful growth.

The designers blew a potentially good revenue with the aforementioned problem. If it had been as nice and easy as reading on iBooks or Kindle, the numbers would probably be different.

Apple has been struggling to add new subscribers to its Apple News+ service that launched in March, according to a new report from CNBC that cites people familiar with Apple News+.

When Apple News+ debuted, Apple signed on approximately 200,000 subscribers within 48 hours, but has not had luck attracting many new customers. The subscriber count has not "increased materially from its first couple of days," based on information from CNBC's sources.

Apple News+, which offers up access to magazines and newspapers for $9.99 per month, was promoted at launch, but Apple has not been heavily marketing it since then. Despite this, Apple is said to be committed to improving Apple News for years to come.

Publishers who thought the service would bring in more revenue are "disappointed" with poor sales. Apple takes 50 percent of the revenue from every Apple News+ subscriber, while the rest of the money is doled out to publishers based on the amount of time that subscribers spend reading their content.

One publisher has received between $20,000 and $30,000 per month from Apple News+, which is lower than expected. Another publisher told CNBC that while Apple News+ revenue growth is lower than anticipated, advertising from the free Apple News product has consistently climbed.

A Bloomberg report from earlier today suggested Apple is considering a bundle that would include Apple Music, Apple TV+, and Apple News+ for one monthly price, which could potentially make Apple News+ more appealing because other services would be available alongside it. Such a bundle could be released as early as 2020.

If the news app did pinch to zoom I would have subscribed. That is only reason I don’t because I find layout of some articles difficult to read.

"When it doubt, "bundle"it out.."

I don't think this will pull people in.

Apple News+ is already failing.. Soon it will become like "ping"

If I could mark pages I see in Chrome to read later in Apple News, I might be more inclined to use it. Maybe it would actually learn what I care about. When I accidentally open it I get content I have no interest in.

I just opened it and these are my top stories:
1. LASIK should be banned
2. 9-year-old graduates college
3. Impeachment is not a fair fight
4. Three cows that vanished months ago show up on an island miles away

HOW IS THIS DIFFERENT THAN FACEBOOK?

It does if you actually use it. It seems like your problem is you use it so rarely it throws generic stories to you, probably waiting to see if it can learn what your interested in, although only reading news you find appealing is not a good strategy and will narrow your horizons. Integration with chrome will never happen, Apple has made it clear they don’t like google’s privacy practices, perhaps safari.

Knowing people who have gotten Lasik I thought the first was a good read. Hold down on the stories you dislike and click “suggest less like this”.

Golly, who could have predicted this....
No one needs a collection of “news” sources that all agree with each other and that all say exactly the same thing.

News+ should be worldwide, as a European I would love to read American magazines and Americans equally ours as it is an immigrant country.

I'm actually surprised by the money that publisher received in the article. It said one publisher receive $20k - $30k monthly. That's assume it's $30k. Apple took 50% before that. So it generated income of $60k for that publisher. Not every subscriber reads the same magazine, and I don't think Apple will pay more than $1 to publisher per each subscriber read. Based on today's economy for magazine, that's more than 60,000 people reading that publisher's magazine per month! I think that's actually a good number.

Publishers are just greedy. They got extra 60,000 new readers/income and they are not happy about it.

Im surprised to hear so much negativity towards this! The Apple News app has been my go to app for months now whenever I am bored or need to kill time.

I love being able to easily pull up the app and find a few quick reads. There is nearly always something I am interested in but maybe that's because I took the time to program the app with my likes when I first started.

There is a lot of good content on there too! Many times I've come across a great story only to find it is a News + story I need to subscribe for which makes me think the News + service is worth looking at.

I agree it would be great if they had more local news papers. Personally I prefer reading the newspaper in a PDF version of the actual print layout. It may seem silly but I actually feel like I've read the paper if I go through it that way. I wish Apple offered this since even my small town newspaper is able to provide it.

I also would like to see Magazines presented in the print version as well. Maybe I'm in the minority on this which is why its not offered that widely.

Three words.... Not enough content. Viewers can probably watch all of the content they have in less than a week or two. Oh, sorry, I thought this was about Apple TV. My bad. : )

Apple news and tv share one problem, no back catalogue.

Used the free period. Yet kept going to the Today section. Whenever I tried the News+, I couldn’t wait to get the hell outa there.

Sorry, news belongs to tech now, free and supported by ads. RIP traditional media.
