Bummer. I was really looking forward to Apple noise reducing, rich sound, headphone. (As long as they don’t require crappy Siri to operate. HomePod, I’m looking at you.)

Apple is in the business of selling products that a vast majority or people are interested in. The amount of people wanting to buy $500+ headphones and amps is likely extremely small. Beats are more than enough for the average person.
That's why I specifically listed prices above and below $500. There's something for everyone. You can even go to other brands and get good performance for under $100. Even those "cheap" ones are much, much better than anything Beats has to offer. Truth is, Apple could buy any of these companies and roll out a great line of headphones with something for everyone (let's say $50 to $3000).

I knew they were crap before…but wasn't Apple supposed to "up the quality"? Did they?
Beats got better over the time, but that doesn't really matter since the bar is so low. Instead of BeatsX you could buy a cheap Westone W series in a similar price range and get something much better. Instead of Studio/Pro you could get a much better Sony MX1000 in a similar or cheaper price range.

Sure Apple could always re-design Beats from the ground up, but I kind of doubt they'd do that. They'd be better off buying another manufacturer. After all, rumors suggest they want to enter the higher-end market.

Youre comparing beats to EarPods though. The standards are set pretty low already... but regardless the sound quality, the durability seems to be trash. You can read many complaints about it on apples website.

I was comparing BeatsX to AirPods... That's a apt comparison, I think. I actually tried a number of headphones before settling on the Studio3s. Sound is very subjective, so I would say to each their own, but to me -- the Beats sounded best and had the best noise canceling of any of the headphones I tried. I tried a couple different Bose sets and one of the Sony sets (not the latest one, though I hear that one is amazing). Is there better sound out there? Of course. But I think Beats are generally pretty good for the money.

I still have the original wireless Studios. They still work. They are beat up but still work... So, again. To me, they seem pretty decent. No complaints.

I would like a new version of the sports version that is more water proof. They are great for running. I got them free...they are too pricey to buy otherwise.

And that's part of the problem. Noise cancelling and good audio quality don't mix very well. Usually it's one or the other. If it's a must have for you, I think Bose Q35 have the best noise cancelling, Sony XM 1000 worse noise cancelling but much better audio quality. Pick your poison. I ended up buying the Sony for making audio/video calls while in the office and blocking some noise from annoying students whenever I have my office doors open or the windows to the campus. Works for what I bought them. I listened to music with them a couple of times and if it's just for listening to music, it's not something I'd buy. Better choices out there, but not noise cancelling and without microphone.

Have they ever announced new beats head phones at one of these events.

I’m still hoping that beats products won’t be treated like a poor relation with regard to software features.

They have W1 chips like AirPods but not, eg, the “find my” feature.

My hope for an iPhone SE2 which retains the "classic" iPhone form factor is diminishing....guess I'll know tomorrow whether to buy the old one. Coming from a 4S everything looks "new".

Has Beats ever made into a keynote post acquisition? I seem to remember last time everything was updated immediately after the keynote.

Yes, but it was in the context of products which would contain the W1 chip. I think that's the only time. So in essence, a product that used a product that Apple announced. If Apple updated the W1 to include new features, I'd expect a similar announcement with Beats products. Apple needed to do that since the AirPods weren't going to be ready for several more months.

An opinion with nothing to back it up.
Please, list some good alternatives that you prefer.
I think your join date explains it all though. Timing is everything.
Go feed your cognitive dissonance somewhere else. Any product sennheiser spits out for 129 bucks is miles better than any Beats will ever be

They can start by replacing their Micro USB connectors with USB-C. Maybe add Qi wireless charging capability - fold up the headphones and lay it on the side to charge.

Way too many good headphones out there that are better and cheaper than Beats. Can’t stand my BeatsX, no auto shutoff and they do not tell me charge left. Hate to admit it, but Bose offers better stuff.

I am guessing Beats does a solid business with Android handset users, as well, most of whom use micro-USB for handset power, so this might be why Apple has not switched.

If Apple moves to USB-C as a standard, I believe it will be with the 2019 iPhones and iPads (not the 2018 iPad Pros) so that would also be the time to launch Apple's own headphones with USB-C along with a Beats update to USB-C and USB-C AirPods cases. Just update the whole lot from Lightning to USB-C in one go.

Aren't nearly all new Android devices USB-C?

I don't see them ditching Lightning, although I'd love to go 100% USB-C.

Macbook, Camera, External SSD, USB Stick, Desktop all using USB-C.

iPhone and AirPods using Lightning :/

Hey, I like my Bose QC II. I just bought them and wore them for 5 hours on a flight...they did a great job and were comfortable.

Apple have only (relatively) recently eliminated micro-USB from their Beats product lineup?

It would appear that Beats products share the same update cycle as Macbook Airs, Mac minis, Mac Pros... and oh Apple monitors... and oh oh oh iPod touch.

What, no new, ugly and over-priced headsets from Beats? That makes me feel like Marvin.

I was holding out for the Apple-branded Headphones, but with the rumors pushing it to 2019 and Amazon having a 50% off sale, I picked up a Studio3 (in Porcelain Rose) and have been quite satisfied.

I have the BeatsX in-ear headphones and a pair of the Beats 3. In my opinion, Beats products are a good value if you are buying them for 50% of Apple's retail price.

Beats are a disservice to Apple. The sound is atrocious, the price tags are heinous. The AirPods are the same thing, they sound like absolute garbage and offer $10 sound in a $129 package.
Powerbeats are excellent headphones for their intended purpose.

They are not for audiophiles (who only make up a really tiny slice of the market). They are for physical activity and they are great for that with 12 hour battery life, sweat proof and W1 chip.

People aren't beasting out in the gym to frigg'n Phish.
