Its 2010 not 1960.

Anyone born in the last 30 years couldn't care less about the Beatles.

Have you asked everyone? Because I highly doubt this is true. In fact many of today's artists are releasing covers of Beatles songs, which I am sure you are not aware of. There are plenty people of this generation that enjoy the Beatles catalog.

With that said, I do hope tomorrow's announcement is not availability of the Beatles back catalog. I already have all their albums RIPPED, sitting in my iTunes library.

Given the different world clocks that are showing, and considering that the cities concerned are arguably the rock music capitals of the world, are we at long last going to be able to buy iTunes content from any store worldwide?

Ryuichi Sakamoto was the first artist to sign a worldwide iTunes distribution deal - at present though his catalogue and live shows are available in different combinations in different iTunes stores. The crazy thing is, in Japan you can buy less of his studio albums than in the UK, but over there you can get his UK and US live recordings that we can't buy!

That's just one example. Making music only available in certain territories is crazy - it just encourages grey market importing of CDs and even worse online sharing. Shakira has a new album out now in some countries, but it isn't released in the UK until after her tour. Why? I guess the company wants a high chart entry and is delaying until she's over here to do some TV. Why not just have the music on sale legally now and then have a sales peak when she comes to promote it! Not releasing the CD or having a legal download is just encouraging piracy because fan's won't wait.

Rant over.

Please Apple let me legally buy music from any worldwide store (well OK, the UK, US and Japan will do to start).
That would be THE best news for me .... There are so many albums that are US store only, and I end up having to import the CDs. Maybe they'll be using their data center as a huge worldwide store.

Enjoying a catalog is one thing. Being something that someone will "never forget" is something else.

Then again, just like most Apple fans, Beatles fans will be Beatles fans.

Are you seriously asserting that the popularity of a band's music on CD has no bearing on the potential popularity of their music in digital format? Now I know you're just arguing to be contrary, not to support any kind of factual position.

I am saying that because a 40-year-old band still sells a lot of special-edition "boxed CD sets" - that will not translate into them becoming a best seller on iTunes.

Look at the iTunes "top songs" and "top albums" list - I don't see a single "classic rock" band among them.

I agree with you. I do NOT see the Beatles catalog iTunes availability, being this "unforgettable" event.

Lets hope for something 'everyone' will never forget. These ARE to be exciting times! - I think 'all of us' are hoping for something good.

You can continue to live in the 60s and think they are *still* a big deal but they are not.

When they sold a couple million copies of Beatles Rock Band and sold 2.25 million copies of the remasters in just the first five days (with all 14 releases making the top 25 album charts in most major countries), that sure seems like a big deal.

Yes, YOU don't care. Yes, plenty of young people don't care. Yes, they are not nearly as big as they were in their heyday. But that doesn't change the fact that they are still a big deal to millions of people and still bring in a LOT of money.

It's no more of an speculation than you continuing to insist Beatles release on iTunes will be a top-seller!

Speculating that a group that sold a couple million CDs last year will sell well on iTunes isn't exactly a stretch, is it? Who knows if they would be the top seller on release (especially since the charts are done by song and artist and the Beatles have their material spread over 14 albums) but it seems like a no brainer that they would sell a huge number.

WOW, they sold a lot of COMPACT DISCS.

And somehow despite tons of CD sales they're going to flop with paid downloads? That just defies common sense.

Exactly. The iTunes music store is targeted at a much younger demographic. I'm sure the Beatles will come to an agreement with Apple eventually, but it will probably go largely unnoticed.

Something we will never forget...

Tomorrow is the day iTunes dies and several smaller apps appear.

For example, the song player will be detached from the store, (called iPlay or something) and the store will become a dedicated app (called iStore maybe) and this iStore will handle ALL sales of music, iOS apps and the new MacOS store.

Thats my guess anyway!

You are living in a dreamland. The 60s are over.

WOW, they sold a lot of COMPACT DISCS. That screams "youth".

Eminem was the top CD seller of the decade.

The Beatles, a band broken up for 40 years, were number 2.

You're not going to win this debate.

LOL fighting over Beatles. Who cares? Great music, but honestly, there is no way this is totally Beatles related.. Apple wouldn't gain this much attention just to announce music on iTunes.. Get real people, let's maintain some intelligence in this forum. If I happen to be wrong, be sure that Steve Jobs will be called crazy. ;)

Here's another question if it's the Beatles - iTunes exclusive or all download stores? And if it's exclusive, indefinitely or for a certain period of time?

As I said before - people buy their Remastered CD Set as a collector's item or as a gift. No one is going to buy iTunes MP3's as a collectors item.

I think people are letting their personal tastes cloud their common sense. You don't think a significant number of people bought those CDs to, you know...listen to the music? Of course people don't buy files as collectors items, but you don't think there are people who won't get in the mood to hear a Beatles song and buy the download?

I don't know where you get the idea that the sales last year were primarily boxed sets, there were huge sales of the individual albums. And classic rock generally won't appear on the iTunes charts because sales of those are spread out over years compared with a new release that is huge for a week or two and then drops off. Still, that doesn't mean that popular classic rock acts haven't sold many many copies on iTunes.

I'm sure the Beatles will come to an agreement with Apple eventually, but it will probably go largely unnoticed.

You really haven't heard any of the many many news stories over the years about the Beatles not coming to iTunes (or rumors about the possibility)? Really?

This will be an easy one to see proven wrong. Covered by all major news outlets. If it happens tomorrow, have your fork and bib ready to eat crow.

Which decade is this?

2000-2010. The beatles sold over 30 million and a greatest hits compilation was the best selling album of the decade with 11 million.

so since itunes store is number one in country, Apple (or steve) suddenly changed what they were. I still remember that steve jobs won't do music subscription service because it won't work. well, just like other companies did, they will just do? I see that epic will be failed. trust me. apple continued success won't guarantee for the future. they will be probably out of idea. they break promise everything what they said before. geez.

Say What? Not sure I understand what you are saying.

iStore....hmmm I like it, its where you buy and "store" your music, iOS apps, movies and such....
Sure you have a copy on your hard drive, but if something should happen to it, then you just log on to your account and download what you already bought. iTunes just becomes the player....
