I'm not surprised by the slow sales: the 13" Air and the 13" MBP overlap each other too much and, quite frankly, they target the very same type of customer and needs.

Apple should merge both models into one.

The price of the 13 inch retina didn't quite add up for a friend of mine. He wanted an Air (and got one), but looking at the upgrade to the 13 inch pro, despite all the extra benefits of it, he still couldn't justify the r13 over the Air. If it were just $200 cheaper, the upgrade would be a no brainer. And with the power of the r15, even the 15 looks better value than the 13.

They need to lower the prices, since my last MacBook I haven't bought another.just can't justify the price, they are way overpriced,I think they should have one that starts at the $700 or $800

Apple Notebook Refresh Expected Late This Quarter, But Only Modest Shipment Growth for 2013

Apple is likely to use Intel's forthcoming Haswell processors in its next-generation notebooks, and Intel will reportedly be releasing the first mobile Haswell chips in late May or early June.
That is very unlikely, because Intel has problems with the Haswell platform (USB 3.0 and others).

The Product Change Notification (download PDF) tells us, that we will see Haswell processors in Mac hardware in late Q3/2013 or in Q4/2013, not sooner.

There's now only 4 models left with a discrete graphics card; the 15-inch MacBook Pro (standard and Retina) and both iMac.
The 13-inch MacBook Pro and MacBook Air are integrated graphics only. Same for the latest Mac mini. What's next?

Personally, Retina on the MBA isn't a deal-breaker for me, but I do think that the current screen looks a bit ghetto when you compare them to the full glass of the MB/MBP line.

Damn i was just digging this PDF up ;) But agreed - no new lineup before August.

There are people like me who explicitly look for integrated graphics and don't want the higher power consumption and heat/noise generation that a discrete gfx will bring to the table (literally!)

There are use cases where a discrete gfx makes sense and that's still covered in Apples lineup. Most people do just fine with the iGPU that comes with Haswell. Hell, most do fine with the HD4000 in the current CPUs.

I hope the new models have 802.11ac.
Yeah so do I. Mainly in the hope that Time Capsule and AirPort Extreme get refreshed at the same time with 802.11ac, as I'm in the market for one or the other, but I can hang on a bit longer to get something more futureproof.

Well, I can only imagine how low Apple Macbook sales are low in Brazil.
They charging a astonishing 6321.94 US Dollars for the hi end rmbp here.

Every Brazilian knows how high our taxes are, but Apple prices are absurd, and, believe me, on the rise here.

Folks, a lot of traditional PCs aren't selling as well as expected. Why? I wish I could remember where the article was, but basically because people who own a tablet don't need as much speed on a traditional computer. So if you get a latest-model iPad, you might wait an extra year or two to upgrade your iMac or MacBook. Heck, you might wait even longer.

My iMac's primary role is basically a media server. I have two external HDDs hooked up with movies, music, TV, etc. Then I have a Time Machine drive to back up the main stuff. I sync my photos to it and back up my iPhone and iPad. I use it a little bit for various stuff that's nicer to do on a 21.5" display, but for actual use I'm on an iPad or iPhone.

So basically I just need this thing to not break for the better part of six years, maybe even eight. If eventually my hardware can' t handle the latest Mac OS, I'll probably just deal with it for a few years. But if my iPhone can't? Woah, that's SERIOUS.

I wouldn't be shocked to at some point see Apple target this with a $999 iMac for home users that does basically all of that. Maybe it'll go the route with an $899 MBA.

i'll be in the market very soon for a MBP upgrade:cool:

so please be nice and make up your mind "ON THE PRICES!"

thanks :apple::D

So when we will see upgrade to Mac Mini's ?

I was thinking to get one next month, but have no problem to wait a bit more for the 'Haswell chips' if they coming around May\June to the mac line (every bit of power will be welcome for my studio work)...

When Apple is turning back to Samsung I'm going to buy a 15" Mac Book Pro Retina for now I have to many doubts about the Quality. Apple is loosing terrain about the price for less Quality.

What really bothers me about Apple lately is the $140b in cash and we can't get any of these great ideas implemented in a timely matter. Meanwhile the article talks about suffering sales and mismanaged product lines. No wonder the stock price is almost halved and people are calling for Tim Cook's job. He better have something great up his sleeve with this iWatch and/or iTV thing.

Why do people believe anything coming from DigiTimes? When are they ever right?

I would be inclined to believe this given the number of price reductions and special offers available online for the MBA and MBP. Could also be that all the reported problems with the MBP-Retina machines is putting some people off. It certainly put me off buying one. I'm waiting for the new Haswell version now. Hopefully they will have sorted out all the issues by then.

I do think Apple is gradually pricing themselves out of the market. Windows PCs are getting cheaper and cheaper but the MacBooks just seem to get more and more expensive.

I hope the future of their laptop line is just one type of machine:
- Air body
- Pro features (external optical if needed)
- Retina display
In 11, 13, 15 & 17" sizes. Add an Apple-designed discrete graphics card (so it'll fit in the Air's body) as a BTO option.

One model. Four sizes. Keep things nice and simple. :)

Apple - just introduce a discreet graphics card into the 13", why else crop out all the volume of an optical drive just to make it a fat MBA with retina screen?

Will Apple get rid of discrete graphics cards?

Just a minor point - it is or would be a discrete graphics chip, not a card.

Cards need connectors which add bulk, something that Apple doesn't allow. Soldering the CPU chip to the mobo is much more compact.

Sounds you need an xMac with 4 internal disks, not an all-in-one. ;)

Please read the article!

The so called update in back in Feb was very misleading. They didn't actually update anything - they just changed the pricing and configurations to make it look like an update. All the processors were the same as before. So maybe you pay a little less for the same spec. And they didn't fix any of the other issues with the MBP-R. There are plenty of threads and reports documenting the problems.
