Apple is now allowing customers to trade-in a Mac Studio, 13-inch M2 MacBook Air, and 13-inch M2 MacBook Pro for credit towards new Apple product purchases.

As part of Apple's trade-in program, customers can trade in a Mac Studio and receive up to $1,500 of credit towards purchasing a new product. Apple is also offering up to $450 for a 13-inch M2 MacBook Air and up to $775 for a 13-inch M2 MacBook Pro.

Apple determines the exact value of the traded-in product depending on its condition, such as if it has scratches or dents, and if it functions correctly. If a customer has a device not included on Apple's list of trade-in devices, the company will also recycle it for free. More information can be found on Apple's trade-in page.
Bloomberg's Mark Gurman in late May anticipated the trade-in policy change would happen on June 5, the same day that WWDC 2023 kicked off.

Just bought a M2 MacBook Air for like $1500, and Apple is offering $450? Lol.

Yes, but the trade-in experience will feel 'magical!'

Ridiculous trade-in values... That's what I was saying the other day.
Macs now lose their value so quickly!

They don't lose their value quickly, Apple has always been horrid with their trade-in values. Always sell it yourself if you want max value.

Now I understand why they brought this out.

You're going to need to trade in all your M1 and M2 devices to afford the Vision Pro.

Which they'll go ahead and resell for 100-200 bucks less than full retail.
Get bent, Apple.

I bought the $1999 Mac Studio last year. It's quoting me $1050 for trade-in.
I guess that's not too bad, though there's no way I'd replace this beaut so quickly.

Thanks for mentioning that. I tried a few M2/M2 Pro Minis but there are several issues. I was considering to buy a M2 Max Studio hoping that it may not have those issues. However, I don't need a powerful machine as apps for work are only available in Windows. Given that the trade-in value is half of the original cost, I wonder if it is better to buy a Mini. By the time M3 comes out hopefully by next January, it will probably perform better than M2 Max Studio in perhaps half of the tasks.

At least you're getting 50% of the original price. I'm getting just $1500 for a maxed out studio which cost 3x more.

I think some members suggested getting the base model as we cannot get much back for the upgrades.

Can we assume that for the base model of any Silicon Mac, we lose about 50% for trade-in when the next generation comes out? I think I got 60% back when I traded-in my i9 MacBook Pro 16". So, Silicon Mac are less valuable compared to pre-Silicon Mac Era.

I am trying to decide whether to buy a M2 Max Studio (don't know if the base model has slower SSD) or a M2 Mini again with the knowing that it has some unresolved issues.

Yeah it's looking like that. They're quoting me about $1,300 for my M1 Max 32C 64 GB RAM 1TB SSD Mac Studio. Definitely worth waiting a bit to see what they do with the base model SSD.

Base price announced as same as last year already £100 dearer starting at £2099 from £1999, at this rate the headset Vision Pro will go up from $3500 US to £5000 when it eventually launches in the UK, obscene!😂

Just traded in a 2018 Intel i7 MacBook Pro ($405) for a new M2 Mac Studio. Not a lot, but it paid for the 1 TB SSD upgrade plus a $200 discount, I'll take it (was a machine from a previous employer that I wasn't using anyway).

i was holding onto my MacBook Pro 2012 for so long, I am kind of annoyed I did not wait another 1,5 years before upgrading. I bought the MacBook Pro 14 inch in 2021 for 2,2k and I do not need all this power at all. I would have opted for this Air for sure instead!

I feel seriously screwed....I pulled the Trigger a month ago on a $5700 Mac Studio because Mark Gurman said Apple wasn't going to release a new one with an M2 this year. I decided I wasn't going to wait another year. I really wanted the M2 to drive an 8K display. Last week Gurman comes out saying the M2 Studio was going to happen, and I quickly checked to see if I was still in my return window from Apple. I was ONE day out of the window, so I'm stuck with it. Laughable that Apple would be happy to give me $1500 for something they just took $5700 for.

BIG $1,000 PRICE JUMP over my loaded M1 Ultra. The loaded Mac Pro Ultra is $11,799 while the fully loaded Studio is $8,799. The $3,000 extra gets access expansion slots...

Sad that my fully loaded $7,200 2022 M1 Mac Studio Ultra has a trade in value today of only $1,500. That's about 80% depreciation in one year.....

My jingle will remain in my pocket.

I purchased an M1 Max (64GB-Ram | 32-Core GPU) this past winter and I'm feeling a little foolish for doing so now.

Still very pleased with my purchase though. Hoping to enjoy it for years and years to come.

First, you made an actual financial decision on the musings of a rumor chimp?

Second, go to Apple, today if possible, and check if you can return outside the window. They might make an exception. I wouldn't mention Gurman, just that you didn't know a new one would be released so soon. Be polite, and, if one store says no, it's worth trying a second or third. I suspect there's some room for discretion in their policies.

Still, don't be too surprised if they come back with noes across the board.

Lat year Apple told me my Mac Studio was the fastest beast on the planet and used all sorts of buzzwords to emphasise its speed and power. Now they want me to trade it in for 5 bucks :(

I don't need a new Mac Studio but it would be nice to overcome the limitations in the M1 Ultra chip.

this is pretty absurd, bought an M1 ultra studio completely maxed out at release - just over a year ago. i do intend to use it for many years, but $1500 trade in for a $8k computer? just ridiculous.

Maybe the site hasn't been updated but in Australia I am still not seeing an option for a Mac Studio trade in. Entering serial just tells me it is able to be 'recycled'. I have one of the noisy Studios and ended up packing it away and getting a Macbook Pro earlier this year.
