WTH has happened to the reasoning/critical thinking skills of teens today?

When fraud and theft are as accepted as torrenting music or software, the 'rebel without a cause' has reached its logical conclusion - the outlaws are running the show and innocents' only refuge is behind the gated tech communities.

"I can still sometime only wonder and shake my head over how differently the issues of sexuality and violence are approached in the US as compared to the EU."

The US is a curious mix.

The sight of a female nipple causes a media furore yet prostitution is legal and the us "adult entertainment" industry makes $13,000,000,000 a year.

It seems the "sin" part is absolved if you can industrialise the process and fund political campaigns.

(NOTE: full-on adult entertainment is still illegal in the UK)

Greed is obviously not considered a real sin in the US. Could it be that the "adult entertainment" industry are co-funding the "moral majority" groups and vice versa? Because if an unclothed breast was nothing to bother about, i.e. the most natural approach, then they both would be out of business.

[Note: to all those claiming they were raised in enlightened homes and only prudes are against it, put a pic of your sister/mother/babysitter on there and see how much they like it.]

So maybe porn should be made illegal... Every woman is somebody's sister/mother/babysitter.

I'm not a teenager, and I don't have a distorted sense of entitlement, this is just part of human sexuality, and shouldn't be completely suppressed.

So. You believe that an app on a portable device which is specifically advertised to allow you to make boobs wobble is "just a part of human sexuality"?

It is sure as hell more normal and morally okay then some of the apps found here: http://www.christianiphoneapps.com/

A whole page dedicated to promoting Applications whose whole idea is to mislead people. I sure as hell find wobbling breasts less disturbing then someone trying to feed me lies (as with the christian applications, bad lies too I might add).

Pulling a boob wobbling app, or any app, has nothing to do with censorship and everything to do with aapl deciding what it wants using its iPhone OS (not just being displayed) on its device.

"appl deciding what it wants"... excuse me, but I purchased the product, I think I should be able to decide what to put on the device.

I don't need a big brother telling me what I can do and what I can't. This crap with flash and now this, is two of the main reasons why I won't even think about purchasing the iPad. If you want to run off customers, this is the way to do it.

Blame ipad

The App Store is being prepared for the iPad and the senior citizens. :)

Bingo. If GTA had a sexually suggestive icon it'd get pulled too. It's all about what the boomers with their new iPads will object to.

iWobble is actually a fun little app. I put a picture of my wife on it and let it produce the effect. She thought it was cute.

Do not see the offense in that app at all.

You decry one intolerance and then add your own. How very human of you  We get it you don't like Christians. Feel better that you got that off your chest?

So you actually think that blocking something that is just stimulating human biochemistry to produce certain bodily reactions is more justified then blocking people telling children outright lies? Right...

What I was getting at is if they allow the christians lies they have NO REASON to ban something as natural as sex. They do not allow real content but allow imaginary?

I couldn't care less if they allow the religious applications if they also allow the sexual ones, then each man can get what is in his interest.

Good riddance.

I'm as raging a liberal as anyone and love freedom of speech, but seeing iBoobs or HoxSexSuperHotGirls in the top apps makes me really lose faith in humanity and I'd rather see more worthwhile apps (or at least more...content-heavy apps) be celebrated instead.

Got it, you believe in openess but we should lie or at the very least hide the honest truth.

If you take your faith in anything from the appstore then you are a joke and really need to find something more worthwhile to focus your life on.

I don't see how having the bible as an App is controversial either...

I think it's more controversial then some wobbly breast application. Breasts wobbling and why humans might like sexual content is all well documented and scientific proven. While bible content have yet to be scientifically validated, more like disproved. But to each his own, if some people want it, fine, but then don't go removing more natural applications.

If apple want to get rid of tacky apps, good luck to em.

Let the wankers find the answer in their Palms.

Think big picture

It's truly remarkable that so few posters are able to see this move as part of Apple's grand strategic vision for their products, especially those that use the iPhone OS. In 5 years from now I strongly suspect that the iPad will be a ubiquitous device in homes, schools, certain corporate settings, hospitals, and science labs. It will revolutionize computing by opening it up to entirely new settings or changing the ways it's used in current settings. The spec crazy people who expected some type of laptop replacement are missing the point of Apple's strategic decisions. To those of us that get it, it is no surprise that Steve Jobs allegedly said the iPad (a supposedly crippled, large iPod) is the most important thing he has ever done.

To quote Journojulz: "The things that make the iPad so revolutionary are the things that have been left out. This is the computer our parents have been waiting for us to show them."

Therefore, it's obviously critical for Apple to set a certain tone about the content on the device. I don't know this for sure, but I think that only a small minority of people buy an iPhone for access to apps with sexually overt content. So even if these apps are no longer available, most people will still have a strong desire to keep or buy an iPhone. This restriction will annoy some iPhone users, but it will not hurt Apple much. It will certainly be consistent with their strategic plan.

When they start banning books - THEN I will start complaining.

Actually, no I won't, I will just buy them elsewhere and convert them to a readable format.

Just because you can have pop-tarts for breakfast doesn't mean you should.

WTH has happened to the reasoning/critical thinking skills of teens today? The entire analysis/progression is based on a distorted sense of entitlement--that if you own something you should be able to run any application on it you want. Grow up.

I have a graduate degree in a technical field, I don't need to grow up.

Your second statement doesn't support your first. You haven't found a flaw in the reasoning, you just disagree with the value system.

Most people believe in free speech and I think many of the people who think that Apple's censorship is fine also believe in free speech. However, in practice, the two ideas conflict. I believe it's undeniable that technology has shaped the way we express ourselves. We are posting our thoughts on an internet forum, after all. The issue with app store censorship is not that Apple is a small company controlling a product that is used by a small portion of the market. iphone sales are huge and a significant portion of the people I know use one. It's gotten to the point where this single device has made a significant effect on the way a good portion of people get information and communicate. When you censor a function on that device, you are, in effect, censoring the group of people who use that device.

Except the thing is you're around censorship all day. The media for example, most News networks are regulated and they only tell you what you want to hear. The constable at the local police station knows my family well (For Good Reasons) and they deal with stuff that doesn't get onto the news. Grotesque Killings, Gang Fights, Rape. All because TVNZ and Mediaworks are controlled by the NZ government and show nearly identical articles.

Ideals are just that, Ideals, and Ideals erode with time and die with its creators.

And thats where Apple is wrong.

Once money changes hands, the iPod touch or iPhone is MINE. It is not Apple's device, it is MY device. I OWN it. And Apple is in no place to tell me what I can or cannot do with that device.

Apple's inability to see this simple truth will ultimately be their undoing. Once money has changed hands for a product, you absolutely cannot tell that person what they can or cannot do with it. It is no longer yours to control.

Aside from the fact that your statement is not true (you own the hardware - you only license the software), your right to "do what you want" doesn't impose a duty on Apple to help you do it. Just as you have rights, they have the right not to sell you things that they don't want to sell (such as porn).

Their Profits and stock value say otherwise.

You own the hardware, not the software. Even then, they have no obligation to fix it if you tamper with the hardware. You could just install linux or Jail Break if its your device.

Stop moping.

Their profits are so high because they overcharge so much for their hardware. $1,999 for a Core 2 Duo, GeForce 9600 GT, 15.4" 16x10 screen, no blu-ray? Thats so low end by modern standards you can't even find something that low-end in the PC world. Yet Apple charges $2,000 for it.

You own the hardware, not the software. Even then, they have no obligation to fix it if you tamper with the hardware.

I OWN the entire device. Hardware AND software. If I paid for it, I own it. It's that simple.
