I just know that if iPhones were launched this way heads would have been rolling. This has to be one of the worse launches in tech for the last 5 to 10 years. The product was shown back in September 2014 and you still can't walk into a brick and mortar and get one.
The playstation 4 and Xbox One went better than this.

I made a try-on appointment memorial day weekend at the Minnesota mall of America store. They were booked for appointments that day, as I had tried to move mine up a little. Plenty of interest around the table as I did that.

I just got back from a random, impromptu try-on in a Chicago store. Obviously, I was able to walk in, ask to try one on, and ended up buying. Seemed like a good bit of interest here in Chicago as well.

People are definitely still getting used to this version of retail purchasing - we either buy stuff sight unseen off of Amazon, or we buy stuff directly from B&M stores. I like this new, happy medium of specialized, personal in-store service, but delivery to your door or office. My wife did it with Warby Parker, and I do/did it with my Bonobos clothing and now my Apple watch. This may be the future of e-commerce.

The only appointments I see myself making is with my doctor and the dentist. This is an accessory. No way in hell this should be the norm and something that we should get use to. Specialized service my butt. It's a freaking overpriced accessory. And who the heck is Warby Parker? The appointment maker?

It's a damp squib. Think about it.

Also, Angela isn't in control of the supply chain. This was not the launch Apple would have preferred but that's got nothing to do with how Angela conducts her business. Angela can't will more watches into existence.

That's not the point. She isn't in control of the supply chain yes and therefore had to think more creatively regarding how to Circumvent that. But failed.

Warby Parker is a brand of eye-glasses and sunglasses. Their business model is creating their own brand and selling a personalized experience in-store, and then having your prescription glasses shipped to you soon thereafter.

I realize people may get pissed at this business model, but it has plenty of upside from the retailers perspective. They're allowed to aggregate demand from all locations and store inventory centrally. Any time you have a product that has many combinations, you run the potential of having too much inventory at the wrong places. Then, to ship inventory to the right places, you incur labor and freight costs.

Personally, I like making appointments for stuff. I feel like I've gotten a pretty good experience at most places by doing so.

This is probably a good point to stop reading this. I did. Yawn. This tired old narrative has been driven into the ground by the me me me now now now crying that has overwhelmed the Apple Watch forums for much of April and a good part of May. And the record is beyond broken.

Well clearly you did read it ha ha. Make your mind up.

For me, there's no point to go to Apple Store, try a watch, and come home empty handed. Gotta wait weeks for it. Not going to waste my time to just go there and try it out, and can't buy it right here right then.
That's a strange shopping experience.
