By "repairs that don't require replacing the entire device", I guess we simply mean "repairs".

If you have to replace the entire device, that's not by definition a repair, it's simply "buying a new one" not "repairing it".

Got to say, if the Face ID broke on my iPhone X, I’d be quite happy if they replaced the whole phone…

I love my X even though it's almost 5 years old and will keep it as a backup device when I eventually replace it. I'm sure the FaceID repair will exceed the value of the phone so not sure if it's worth dumping he money into the device for a repair like this.

No other smartphone OEM? You mean like Samsung and Nokia?

I see the Galaxy S8+ and Note 8 on Samsung's repair pricing list... smartphones released in April and August 2017, respectively.

Here's a list of smartphones that you can send to Nokia for repair: https://nokia.ebuilder.com/auto/repair

I see the Nokia 1 (released in February 2018), Nokia 2 (released November 2017), and Nokia 3 (released June 2017) on the list.

By my calculations... Beep-Boop-Boop-Bop-Beep... they're all at least 4 years old.

Yeah, yeah... I get it. This is a forum for Apple fans and device users. But does that mean we should be posting wrong information about an Apple competitor?
Nokia is a competitor? That's a reach. I didn't even know they still made phones. Do they sell overseas exclusively?

And there’s nothing saying the Apple wouldn’t do that. In some cases, they will, assuming of course, if it’s not at the fault of the user. This is just a secondary option that they can repair Face ID, however; Apple is one of those companies that would gladly rather just issue you a replacement device if one’s available, and of course it depends on who you’re dealing with.

Competitor: one selling goods or services in the same market as another

Samsung remained the biggest individual brand with a market share of 20%, followed by Apple with a share of 14% and Xiaomi with a share of 13% (via Counterpoint Research). However, BBK Electronics grabs the top spot when the market shares of all of its brands (OPPO, vivo, OnePlus, realme) are combined – holding 25% of the shipments.

Counterpoint further revealed to Nokiamob that Nokia shipped almost 3 million smartphones in Q3 2021, representing a growth of 12% compared to Q2 2021. But it gets even more impressive when the shipments are compared to Q3 2020 as the growth then sharply rises to 37%.

The rise has been driven by the Middle East, Africa, and North America where the exit of LG has left quite some shoes to be filled. Still, in terms of global smartphone makers ranking, Nokia Mobile retained the 14th spot.

As for feature phones, Nokia Mobile remained the 2nd largest vendor, shipping around 10 million units in Q3 2021. This, combined with smartphone sales, churns out a 13 million figure in total, making Nokia the 11th biggest phone vendor on the planet.

In any case, you're missing the point which is that Apple isn't the only OEM that supports and will repair a device that's more than 1 year old or even 4 years old.

Anyone know the ballpark price for this repair? Apple has always been so vague about repair costs.

Kinda off topic but seeing the iPhone X/XS reminds me how much more better looking and designed they are than the current iPhones.
I completely disagree. The White iPhone 12, Graphite 13 Pro, and Black 4S are some of the best looking iPhones Apple has ever made.

My guesstimate? I would say somewhere near $189. But it depends, what are we talking about that needs necessarily be ‘repaired’,(I.e- the infrared sensor, Dot projector, flood illuminator, etc.)

I'd imagine the X (and XS) are reaching the point where it's no longer an economical repair.

Here in aussieland, buying a 2nd hand XS is about 350-400 dollarydoos, yet an official apple screen repair for one is $439AUD.

Only info I could find about this repair program is someone getting it for $169 on iPhone Xs ... this is not even listed on the Apple repair website. Such a terrible launch.

Just wondering .. hardly on-topic .. here in the Netherlands it’s still possible to buy a new XS (5.8 inch). Though never used, it is on the shelves since sept 2018, so what could be the state or condition of the battery three and a half years later?

That's what I thought when I saw the thumbnail to this thread. It really was a beautiful device that literally screamed the premium Apple was asking for it - which was unheard of at the time.

But I guess there will always be the debate about flat or round edges. Some prefer this, some prefer that. Even ergonomically it's a wash since while the round edges "feel" nicer, the grip with the flat edges is much more pronounced. The one, I think objective, thing one can criticize about the new designs ... that camera bump business has gotten out of hand.

Anyways ... in my opinion ... the iPhone X was the cleanest any iPhone ever looked.

What would be the cost of swapping Face ID for iPhone X? And where is the more detailed page? Mine is not working anymore. I'm using iPhone 12 Pro Max now, but iPhone X is still a very good device.

Apple has expanded its program that allows customers to get their Face ID system repaired without replacing the entire device to the iPhone X, according to a memo seen by MacRumors. The iPhone X was initially excluded from the list for this program.

Screen-Shot-15.jpg

Apple launched the program last month, giving Apple Stores and authorized repair centers access to parts for the TrueDepth camera system and allowing technicians to repair Face ID without replacing the entire phone. The program was initially only available for the iPhone XS and later but has now been expanded to include the iPhone X and, therefore, all iPhones with Face ID.

What about the XR? I have an XR with a broken Face ID and ambient light sensors and it’s a pain in the ass.

I recently had may sons iPhone X screen die - there was absolutely no damage, or cracked screen. It just started flickering and then went dark. Apples repair costs were nearly half what I could get a brand new iPhone 12 on sale for. It also had a battery needing replacement so when that was factored in it was even more. Even at third party repairers using non genuine parts the repair costs were about 1/3 of said iPhone 12. At that point it made no sense to repair a nearly 5 year old device. I hope that programs such as these enable lowering the price to repair older items.

Roughly correct pricing, the entire Face ID module is replaced though.

You didn't pay a cheap price though which is why this sucked, it was near retail pricing for a Whole Unit Replacement. Instead of a $200 repair.

It's called an iPhone 13 Pro. It's kinda like an iPhone X but better and newer and comes in that color you're asking for.
Have you seen the new green in person? It's close, but not the same. Also, I said X because I mean the design of the X. I had an 11PM and I have a 13PM now. Sierra Blue is weak.
