This is a welcome change. Back in november I was told I had to ship it off with a 12-14 day turn around. This being a work machine, it was a non-starter. The apple store even refused to order the parts so that I could bring it for an on site repair and only lose one day. Insisting it had to be shipped. So dumb.
That’s why I don’t understand the defense that many people make that a true “pro” wouldn’t need to have a MacBook where the battery, RAM and SSD were easily user replaceable. If the machine provides someone their bread and butter the last thing they would want is days of downtime instead of just a few hours. If a pro needs to waits days to get their work machine back they probably need to buy a new machine when they drop the broken one off unless they already have a backup. Time is money.

which rule am i violating? none.

You've violated the rule of being pro-Apple on Macrumors.com.

I'm sorry but this is an unforgiveable sin. It is OBVIOUS that Apple has produced an intentionally flawed product and EVERYONE is having problems and anyone who doesn't agree will be banned. Tim Cook is running Apple into the ground, it will die tomorrow! (/sarcasm).

Try business class from Lenovo/Dell. You can get onsite service. That's even better than having to take a machine to a store.

Having helped several companies purchase this service, you do realize that this isn't free right? Yeah, Apple has a hardware premium, and the ability to usually walk into an Apple Store and walk out the same day is (in my history) pretty high. But on-site service is expensive and usually done by third party techs ... of whom ... I haven't had the greatest experience with. Some I've developed good relationships where they trusted me to do the work and just shipped me the parts (like replacing motherboards, psus, cpus, etc...).

My wife and I are almost a year into our 2017 MBPs. Wife uses hers every day for many many hours (for her PhD). Neither of us have had problems. Nice to see Apple has a 4 year keyboard warranty on these things. The new keyboard took some getting used to but I can really fly on it now. But... then again, I'm violating the rule (above) of saying anything positive about Apple on Macrumors. Time for a permanent ban this time! Sorry. Mods please ban me.

Threads like these drive a lot of $ for Macrumors. I'm happy for Macrumors.

Everyone should send in their Macbooks for repair, regardless if you keyboard works or not. This will show Apple that they have designed a terrible keyboard. Strength in numbers!

Well... I live in Poland, there is no Apple Store. and I havee 2018 MB pro touch bar 13". I have an issue with the keybooard for 3-4 months now.

I went to authorized Apple reseller. They took my macboook for 3 days, after that they just told me "all is good". :)

I have problems with all line from Q to P letters. They can work foor 20-30 click and than from time to time I got double, for example: "oo".

yep... according too them it's fine :) I have recorded the issue with my phone camera and I really hope to have it fix once for good.. one day :)

I really miss my 13" pro mid 2014..

I absolutely love the keyboard. I have had no issues at all. I don’t see why everyone hates it.
And you're not the only one. My wife and I are definitely on that list. My wife knows many at college who have same view as well.

But, it's not as popular to not complain about something, for example, thinking you know better than a company like Apple. Remember, Apple is a failing company because of Tim Cook and the keyboard is an absolute 100% complete and total failure, can't even use it!

For Pete's sake people:

Just because you have a problem with an Apple product, don't assume everyone does

AT THE VERY SAME TIME

Just because you don't have a problem with an Apple product, don't assume no one does

How freaking hard is this for some of you? Are you all twelve year olds posting because you can?

There is no Apple Store in Poland. None. Zero. Wake up Apple

Couldn't imagine buying an Apple product without an Apple Store at least somewhat nearby. That's part of the Apple premium imo. :(

13... thank you very much. I turn 14 in a few years.

That really sucks.

I would really hate spending the amount of money that Apple charges and end up with the keyboard issue, and I live somewhat near a few Apple Stores.

This guy doesn't understand why you don't like the keyboard:

I don’t see why everyone hates it.

It's the Spacebar for me; which, combined with "substitute double-space with period" feature, makes for a very annoying. Time when writing text messages or. Documentation.

Same with mine. Just dropped it off last night for a keyboard replacement.

I don't think people have this problem.

Quite a few posters here act like the keyboard is flawed by design, a timebomb waiting to happen, unusable, etc... when, in reality, there are many more millions using this keyboard without a problem.

I don't think no one is having problems with the keyboard - posts seem to indicate more people are having problems with it than past models. Combined with the fact that a noticeable amount of people don't like the new thin design - this is going to elicit very strong responses.

I'll be 100% honest with you (not saying I'm not normally...) - I prefer the 2015 MBA keyboard a lot more. I loved that keyboard - used it every day for 3+ years heavily. Wish I had never sold it. :( Makes me want to go out and buy one again. :)

Just buy a keyboard cover when you get your machine. Solves the problem and keeps it clean.

so.. I have to buy an third party keyboard coover, which is probably ugly (I have never seen any) foor my $2k computer, just to avoid a problem which doesn't exist in 300 usd computers.

Make sense. Totally.

I wouldn't recommend a keyboard cover. These keyboards are way too thin for one, and the MBP vents a lot of heat through the keyboard. Some think that the keyboard failure could be heat related, imo, possibly making it worse.

So yeah, I wouldn't recommend one. Our (my wife and I) 2017 MBPs haven't needed them.

This is a excellent reason to not buy anything from Apple. Crappy keyboards (old ones work just fine forever), glued in batteries (stupid just stupid), un upgradeable anything. Problems with the "free" os. Just goes on and on and on.

And why did you people even buy a MBP after the 2015 one which was perfect?? Go buy that one not this trash.

That's some revisionist BS. All I ever read on these forums were that that that particular model was prone to CPU burn if you did anything more than read emails or do office work on them. Games were a no-go as the heat generated would shorten the lifespan of the battery and waste CPU cycles. Watching YouTube vids would do the same. It was so maligned, that like an idiot I babied my own unit for a couple of months, hardly touching it, and then finally sold it.

I'm moved to post just because of the number of people on here saying the problem is exaggerated etc.

I am yet another person who spent a fortune on a premium product, and had a sticky keyboard just out of warranty. Apple told me how rare it was, and I would have to spend megabucks on a new keyboard. When the replacement programme was initiated I took it in again. They guy in the store (who would probably be in trouble for saying this) said it would take a while because they were OVERWHELMED with the demand for keyboard replacement.

For the MacBook 12", all they had to do was take the original MacBook Air, make the bezels smaller, put in a new screen and add a USB C port or two. Most of us (I think) would have been delighted, but oh no. Thanks for nothing Jonny.

Great news as I've been bragging on my 2016 MBP and now I'm waiting for keyboard issues to start.

Haha yea... not true at all. The CPu/GPU in the 2015 model is just as good as the new ones. Where did you read that? Or did you make it up since your jealous you don't have a 2015 MBP and I'm typing away on a flawless keyboard?

Does anyone know this is true for Educational Customers too? I've been putting off a batch of MBPs for keyboard repair!
