Unpopular opinion: some of us are having good experiences with the new MBPs.
[doublepost=1556075325][/doublepost]

From getting a close look at one of these switches and having minor intermittent issues with mine and also having completely abused the hell out of it (including eating directly over it intentionally), I'm quite of the opinion that the percentage of issues caused by debris are smaller than commonly believed.
Agreed. No amount of compressed air has solved my problems. On monday i have a genius appointment, and if they promise one-day turnaround I will leave it with them.

Sadly, this most likely applies to US only.

In Mexico I've seen first hand colleagues with keyboard problems being refused the free repair on the excuse that Apple (or its authorized official repair centers) couldn't reproduce the issue.

And why did you people even buy a MBP after the 2015 one which was perfect?? Go buy that one not this trash.

I bought the 2015 model in late 2016 and while it has many positive points, the 4th gen CPU gets really hot and the fans get very noisy. Also the integrated GPU is crap.

That's good. I've heard quite a few podcasters saying they haven't taken their macbooks into be repaired yet because they don't want to be without their computer for a long period of time.

The Apple of today does not care a stuff about the FUNCTION that users need. It is the obsession that disregards FUNCTION if it gets in the way of FORM needed for marketing.

No one was complaining about the travel of the old MBP Retina keyboards.

No one was complaining that the Retina, DVD-less MBP's were too thick.

No one was complaining there were too many ports on the MBP.

Also, there is a certain percentage of the population that does not like seeing mirror-reflections in the screen when using the Mac in sunny rooms.

If companies like Lenovo can offer matte screens for those professional users who need it, why can't Apple? It's not a matter of cost -- after all, they offer iPhone and Mac models in a dizzy range of colors. Ther refusal to offer matte screens - for those who need them (and not everyone does) -- is just bloody-mindedness on the part of Apple.

But Apple does not care about the user's function, in those instances where the function gets in the way of the type of form that will make the products more sexy from a marketing perspective.

As a Mac and Apple user since the earliest Apple // and very earliest Macs, I hate what Apple has become.

I continue to use Apple because I like macOS more than Windows 10, although I use Windows in a VM and it's not as bad as it used to be, and Microsoft is producing some nice-looking hardware.

It’s a few £s / $s. And it keeps it clean. Who cares? You can get ones that look identical to the keyboard MOSISO Keyboard Skin Cover Compatible Touch Bar Models Newest Version MacBook Pro 13 (A1989/A1706) & MacBook Pro 15 (A1990/A1707) 2018 2017 2016 Release with Touch ID (Europe Layout), Black https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01NAEMT9K/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_yr9VCb0RTXQKN

Do those fit with the screen lid closed properly on macbook pro`s? i have a feeling they dont close the laptop properly and you only really can use them when the laptop is open and in that case i can just as well use a external keyboard instead.

This is why I love Apple.
They are always working to put customers first.
You won't get this level of customer care from a Samsung, Dell or HP.
Because probably HP or Dell heck even Samsung would have reverted to the older keyboard by now!

Just go back to the scissor mechanism. Please stop doubling down on what was an obvious and serious mistake.
I don't think the mechanism is the problem per se. It's the flatness and the minute key travel, which makes the keyboards prone to capture dust and other particulate matter.

There is nothing that stops Apple from using the butterfly mechanism to build a keyboard with a comparable height and key travel (and robustness) as the keyboards in the 2015 MBPs, except for Jony Ive's insistence on thinness.

And in fact I think such a keyboard would be quite good, as the butterfly mechanism has a couple of actual advantages over the scissor mechanism, such as a higher stability of the keys (i.e. they are less wobbly).

I'm still using my aging 2012 MBPr and it is still going strong. I really hope Apple gets the next redesigned MBP right this time, especially ports and very very especially keyboard. It's time for me to replace my laptop.

"You're holding it wrong!" :)

To be clear, I love the overall aesthetics of Apple products and there isn't an OS I like as much as MacOS, but I am very surprised there's still a number of people defending Apple by saying "I love Apple's customer service" or "People shouldn't complain this much". With a little google-search any right-minded Apple-fan would acknowledge these keyboard issues aren't the only problems with Apple's products.

Since 2007 Apple has released products with defects repeatedly I've owned multiple macbook pro's since 2008 and every single one has stopped working because of it. Yesterday the gpu from my late 2011 macbook stopped working, again after THREE motherboard replacements. It's out of the extended warranty now, so the machine has become useless. You could say "hell, that machine was 6/7 years old...", but thats missing the point. Every time there's an extended warranty "saving our lives", it means Apple is replacing their faulty hardware with the SAME faulty (and probably refurbished, not new) hardware for a little longer, which is not a solution (not even counting in the inconvenience of bringing in and missing your mac for replacement or repair). It's damage control. You're stuck with a ticking time bomb when the warranty runs out. These aren't cheap products so Apple should care about keeping their customers happy, not by telling them to buy a new product (this happened to me multiple times) or by charging obscene prizes for repairs out of warranty when it's Apple's fault in the first place. And customers shouldn't accept this BS.

I was looking for the new macbook air earlier, but I'm holding off for now. Apple should recall their faulty products and start apologising to their customers (really this time). Apple shouldn't wait until there's a regular refresh or redesign and customers should NOT buy Apple's stuff for the time being. That's the only way Apple might change their ****** customer service.

I do hope changes are being made, because I really love working with MacOS. Unfortunately, the only macs that are still working in my house are an eMac G4 from 2005 and a mac that isn't mac. I don't see this changing anytime soon thought.

I'm literally holding out on buying a new macbook pro until they fix this keyboard issue. I can deal with USB-C but no way am I spending thousands of dollars for a flawed machine.

Since Apple are unlikey to change, I will probably look to get an older 2015 MBP model, the last real decent machine they produced in my opinion.

What a fiasco. All in the name of getting the thinnest computer possible. Perfect example of prioritizing form over function. Mac users are busy professionals and need a MacBook that can help us be more productive and make more money from our businesses - not something that looks pretty.

It is a fiacso, but thinness is not form, it is function. I am a busy professional and I need a laptop that is both powerful and light, because I carry it around a lot and yes, I do feel the difference. Besides, I'm sure there are ways to make a laptop as thin and still have a reliable keyboard. Do not assume what other people want based just on your own preferences.

Because people like up-to-date hardware and not a CPU with essentially the same architecture that 2013 CPUs had.
For the majority of people using Macbooks, I doubt their usage require that much horsepower. People just want the latest Apple stuff.
I mean you won't type up nor print your MS word document any faster using the latest Macbook compared to an old one.

Same thing like cars. Most consumers bought their cars based on color and aesthetics, and having the "latest/newest", not the internals. And we see Apple adding colors to their Macbooks, and then there's a rumor of another re-design. Gee, sounds familiar. :D

There are ways to do this for professionals...ask Lenovo...or if you need light, better yet, ask LG. Function over form doesn't work if they aren't offering the function people actually want. I guess for those that are stuck on Mac OS, what else can you do though?

I took my 2013 MacBook Air (with all specs upgraded) into the Apple Store in 2016, three-years old. Logic board needed replacing, no water damage or anything they could tell, a mystery! (local non-apple shops also confused).
The guy in the Apple Store laughed and said "Yah, as expensive as the repair is, you may as well just buy a new MacBook!" He looked shocked when I questioned why in my right mind would I purchase another MacBook at this juncture. Since when have computers become as disposable as our phones?

I'm used to people saying I'm crazy for updating a laptop every five years, now I'm supposed to be thinking a three-year old model is long in the tooth? Nah, I'm good thanks. If only my GF wasn't dead-set on still staying within the Apple ecosystem.

Really? I got problem with HP desktop, they sent service personal to my home next day replace the motherboard, hassle free.

My Dell monitor have slight color balance shift, they send replacement unit (refurbish) next day.

For Apple, "The vast majority of Mac notebook customers are having a positive experience with the new keyboard." Love... They just can't admit that their design have issue. Push up fix speed that mean Apple half admit about issue now

I believe that nobody highlight enough the main issue of this unbelievable apple keyboard mess:

WHO'S GOING TO BUY A BUTTERFLY KEYBOARD MACBOOK AFTER ANY GUARANTEE IS EXPIRED?

What I mean is that the legendary Apple's products high resale value is completely screwed up on these Macs! Who is going to pay for that? Tim Apple? the pompous Jonny or the fairy tale teller Shiller?

Then you had a defective one because mine doesn't do that at all. The integrated GPU is about what you'd expect. But again, at least I can type flawlessly on mine without any issues. That makes it worth it alone.

The only non-techy macOS user I know is my mom.
Everyone else has a job in either software development or graphics intensive use cases so I can‘t relate.

People stopped using macOS for stuff like taking notes or writing stuff here years ago due to cheaper alternatives.

How would you gauge that from where you are sitting?

By refraining from rabid and obtuse hyperbole of John Gruber caliber. But that’s not nearly as fun now, is it? But that’s until I see hard numbers. Even so, I’m happier with the butterfly keys than the wobbly keys of old, which are downright unusable to me.

2016 nTB model - had several keys that didnt work - fixed it with compressed air. now I have an issue with the "8" key being really loud when the laptop is warmed up.

Absolute trash. Also worried about Flexgate.

My 2016 MBP just started d oing t his f or the s econd ti me (spacebar). Could never g o back to the oldk eyboards though.
[doublepost=1556112147][/doublepost]At least I'll get a new battery and e verything!
