I am still using my 24" iMac from 2007. 2.8 GHz Core 2 Extreme with 6GB RAM and 500GB Samsung 850evo SSD. Many things are fast but some stuff like opening large photo library is slow. Everything works but I have occasional freezes. Running El Capitan. Would like to upgrade this year. May be!

Apple's refurbs are probably the best kept little secret among the general public.

Yep. I just snapped up a refurbished 2GB Airport Time Capsule for £149 instead of the normal £299 full retail price. Thats a 50% saving!! I had to snap it up at this price - it was an even better deal than buying a used one from Ebay. When it arrived I inspected it thoroughly - I cannot distinguish it from a brand new product apart from being packaged in a brown box instead of the retail packaging!! Full 1yr Apple Warranty too.

I think you wrote this wrong. Either scratch out Less or Fewer and it will make sense.

I have purchased five Apple refurbs the past seven years, probably saving over $1,000. Never once had an issue.

And even if there was an issue, same warranty as new.

You're statement about making sense with Apple's refurbs doesn't make any sense to me.

Oh man I really want one of these. I've got one at work and it flies! 5K 4.2GHz i7, 32GB RAM, 512GB blazing fast SSD and a Radeon 575. I want one at home! The display is amazing, but I'm really tempted to wait for Pro Motion to come to the iMac.

My question is ..........Why all of a sudden are iMacs appearing in the refurbished section ?

Has the QC buckled or not up to par. beware somethings not right. Too many of these are being sold as refurbished.

I'd wager some of the 'refurbs' are new factory stock that just weren't moving. There are many people who are not comfortable with the stigma of used, returned merchandise. Apple sells to them at full retail. Apple can also sell slower-moving and/or less profitable 'refurbs' to the bargain hunters without diluting the prestige of the brand.

Lets see - I returned 3 - two stock - one BTO -... :) All perfect - just not what I decided on!

Apple's refurbished Products are excellent and go through a stringent process for inspection, which in some cases, are less likely to have fewer issues over new products out of the box. It's still a discount none the less.
hardly a good discount for a 'second hand/broken but repaired' product.

More like customers returning the units within 14 day return period. They come with the same 1 year warranty and can even have AppleCare added.

Show me a retailer selling this for $1500
https://www.apple.com/shop/product/...uad-core-Intel-Core-i5-with-Retina-5K-display

That display alone might be worth $1500

Refurb Apple: $1529+7%tax=$1636
New Adorama (-$75 Appleinsider coupon)=$1634

Even better savings when on sale, YMMV depending on your tax rate.

Good deal here at Frys:
21.5 4K 3.4 1TB Fusion $1348
(Apple refurb + tax= $1363)

Best Buy, with student coupon, this weekend should have at least comparable savings over refurb. Also, resale value of new (in retail box you should save) vs refurb should be higher for most buyers.

From India, so hence, 'm gonna ask:

Who is out there that buys in 2017 and also sells that in 2017 before the end of 2017?

I don't understand. Is my understanding of Refurbish wrong?

Likely a specific part was repaired so the machine is good as new, and sold at a discount because someone else use it. The other person probably just got a swapped machine for speed of service.

Apple wants to move these - look for updated/refreshed "fusion" imacs with "pro" imacs' release later this year...
