Probably several people on this forum who are Tim Cook apologists who think he can do nothing wrong and always find reasons to try and justify his extortionately high prices.what lunatic would buy this when its 499 new on amazon seemingly forever…

You’d be surprised, I was running 50-80 track Logic sessions on one of those base 8g mac minis with no issues.Tempting, but no way I'm buying a machine with 8GB of memory! What's that good for running? The Stickies app? 😅
Ah, interesting. I'll keep checking the Canadian store... We often get scraps compared to the US refurb stock, or in case of refurb iPhones it's all maxed out 512GB/1TB versions that nobody buys lol.M2 Pro in the UK store (there's 18 M2 variations there), if it's not your side shouldn't be too much longer.
I would be surprised. Especially since the video RAM comes out of that 8GB as well. You’d be surprised, I was running 50-80 track Logic sessions on one of those base 8g mac minis with no issues.
Well, you don’t need video ram to run a daw session, and logic is very light on ram usage, I couldn’t even get the memory pressure into yellow without opening a dozen youtube tabs at the same timeI would be surprised. Especially since the video RAM comes out of that 8GB as well.
I remember all the PCs with 8GB of RAM in 2004.

But plenty of youtubers demonstrated that the base model 8g ram m1s can even edit 4k video in final cut pro no problem
EDU discount is awesomethis refurb base model on the edu store is marked "down" from 499 to 509 lmao
Most apps, but mainly one or two at a time. It’s not a developer’s box but good for your basic browsing, word processing, spreadsheets, photo management, and playing music. The kind of basic things that a lot of people do and who don’t want to spend extra on it.Tempting, but no way I'm buying a machine with 8GB of memory! What's that good for running? Just barely related, but I wish I could buy this (or any) mini and use it with my 2009 27" iMac in target display mode.
But, you can!Same!!!
These models just came out this yearMight as well wait for the M3 or the M3 Pro at this point.
But we're halfway through the year. These models just came out this year
And base models of PCs still have 8GB of RAM. It’s true that the upgrade prices to 16GB RAM are not as expensive but that is how Apple rolls. Doesn’t mean that 8GB doesn’t work for a lot of people who are looking for something at a price point.I remember all the PCs with 8GB of RAM in 2004.
No one needs to apologize for Tim Cook's performance. Starting ~1998 Cook was a large part behind building Apple into the world's premier tech firm, arguably the most successful firm in the world.Probably several people on this forum who are Tim Cook apologists who think he can do nothing wrong and always find reasons to try and justify his extortionately high prices.
Exactly, most PC’s couldn’t even handle close to 8GB because they were 32-bit, PAE is a different story.I remember all the PCs with 8GB of RAM in 2004.
Apple's OS magic does exactly that. It ain't pretty and I do not recommend it (just put 96 GB in a new MBP), but the Mac OS does a great job of managing with inadequate RAM.Yeah, my PC pretty much uses all the time 32 GB or my 64 GB, so I would like to see apple's magic to reduce the ram in a tiny 8 GB.
M2 Airs have been going on and off at the $999.99 sale price for months now.Best Buy is selling M1 MacBook Airs for $799. It has me wondering if those are going to be discontinued by WWDC. Could that mean that the M2 Airs could drop to $999? Let’s hope….
I have a 2019 27“ iMac and it feels like an entirely new way of working. The swap file is of course ridiculously small (about 300 MB) since all the used memory can stay in the RAM. That also means less writing on the SSD and longer longevity. Also less performance demands because less rewriting is needed.Apple's OS magic does exactly that. Exactly! I have been looking for a 16GB refurbished/cheaper M1/M2 model, no luck so far.Tempting, but no way I'm buying a machine with 8GB of memory! What's that good for running? The Stickies app? 😅
