For the setup and smart options. For audio you can just make it a discoverable bluetooth speaker. Can't do that with HomePod.
Right, I was speaking more to his statements about how the HomePod can only be tied to one iCloud account for Siri commands. As far as I know Amazon/Google are the same way. I could be mistaken about that though, I have never looked into having Amazon using multiple accounts for Alexa.

If you're thinking about buying it - think a bit longer.

There isn't integration with Apple Home or Apple Music app. Imagine that, Spotify a third party app, has options to scrub through your music and view track names whilst Apple Music has nothing.

Also, Siri is gimped and is much worst at understanding speech then Google Home or Alexa.

But the HomePod does have great sound!

huh? I ask it to turn on my lights and it does. I see it shown in the Home app.

I ask it to play my music and signed up for Apple Music and it plays song recommended based on my history on Apple Music.

So what are you talking about?

I’m curious on do own one....I use it with Apple Music from my macs, ipads, iphones, Apple TV, verbally walking through the house. And for Home, nothing like saying turn off the kitchen lights while I’m halfway down the steps and the HomePod is all the way in the living room or when I’m leaving and say turn off all the lights.

Hi. I bought one at launch. I used it for about two weeks then sent it back.
Yes I am aware there is connectivity with the Home App - but I am specifically talking about the ability to use Apple's apps to fully control the music on the app.
Using the Spotify app with the HomePod, whilst Apple block voice controls with it, you can use the app to view your playlists, see what track is currently playing, and scrub- fast forward or rewind a track or pause a track. With HomePod, when I had it, you couldn't use either the Home app or Apple Music app to see what track was playing or select music from your playlist.

One of the things I hated is that you might have the HomePod playing a random playlist and you are enjoying a song but don't want to interrupt the playing to ask what song is this? You just want to look at your phone or iPad and see.

I understand that MacRumors is an Apple focused website and some people love the products (as do I) but it doesn't mean you should get upset or passive aggressive with anyone who doesn't blindly agree with everything Apple does. We should be critical of things that need to be fixed otherwise Apple will not feel the pressure to change them.

If the best that can be said for HomePod & Apple Music integration is that it 'plays song recommended based on my history on Apple Music' then that proves the point of how bad the functionality is.

Apple make a music app - Apple Music. Apple make a music speaker - the HomePod. Yet Apple has not properly integrated the two.

Select the AirPlay icon from the phone. This will give you the ability to see what is playing on each HomePod and the ability to scrub through the song/pick a different song.

People seem to intentionally choose not to learn how HomePod works. That way they can nitpick to their hearts content!

Yes AirPlay does give you scrubbing features! I no longer have my HomePod, are you saying that AirPlay now gives full access to your Apple Music playlists? Does this come up effectively as full screen size?

I have no idea what you are talking about and honestly I am getting really annoyed with people who immediately attack someone and say they are fanboys.

Your gripe is that you want music to play on the HomePod and for you to see it on your iPhone. You seem to not understand that two devices might want to play at the same time or that from a UX perspective someone is more than fine just asking the HP what song it is. In fact, if you REALLY want to know the name of a song that's playing on the HP just ask on your iPhone and it'll listen and tell you. These are not real issues. I can go on and on about real issues that the HP has. In fact most people on here have commented on Siri quite a bit. So no, I am not a fan boy; I just think you are taking an obscure feature request and expecting it to be universal and somehow this is what caused you to return your device.
