RE: "Apple sells the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus as lower-cost alternatives to the flagship iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR. The devices feature a fast A11 Bionic chip, a Touch ID Home button, and a glass body for wireless charging."

If AAPL had announced "S" versions of the 8 & 8+ on Sept 12th, AND had included an extra GB of DRAM in both, then their stock would NOT have tanked during yesterday's Earnings Call, & which has obviously continued today.

A12 + 3 or 4 GB of DRAM + Hardware Home Button + TouchID = a very nice iPhone for the vast majority of the AAPL User Base !
The stock dropped for no other reasons than manipulation and worries about the unit sales disclosure. No one is selling stock because they don't have an iPhone 8S. An 8S would be a terrible strategy that cuts into the Xr, a phone Wallstreet is incredibly excited about.

Stocks go up and down. Amazon went form $2,100 to $1,495 and is heading back over $1,600 again.

Actually it’s 33.33% off the price not 50%.
We are talking refurb price - you know, the purpose for this article

iPhone 8 refurb price = $499
iPhone XR price = $749

$499 * .5(50%)= $249.5 but I rounded up to $250, I hope that’s easy enough to follow.

$499 + $250(50% of the price of the refurb iPhone 8 - remember, we just figured that out above) = $749 = the price of the XR.

$499 (iPhone 8) -> $749 (XR)

That's a 50% price increase.

Excuse me. That is not the correct way to calculate savings in this case. It would be correct to say that the iPhone XR costs 7.15% more than the iPhone 8. (749-699/699)=0.0715.

It's really not hard: (749-499)/749=0.3337 or 33.37% less. You can also look at $499 as being 66.66% of $749.

If you want to compare the current new and refurbished 2018 prices then it would be a discount of (599-499/599)=16.7%

Please do not try to give someone with degrees in economics basic math lessons. It is wrong to call the XR an increase since this discounted refurbished 8 came on the market after the XR and it is silly since not only is the 8 an older phone, but it is refurbished in this case.

Silly comparison. Comparing an old model, old design, to the newest model and all new design iPhone Xr. Wow, it's more expensive? Shocker!

Not everyone is poor, so $250 more for a better phone is well worth it.

But for those that want the 8, it's there. Isn't capitalism great?

Now the XS Max is truly larger than the 8 Plus. I think possibly the XR as well.
No, both the height and width of the XS Max is slightly smaller than the 8 Plus.

The 8 Plus is 0.2mm thinner though, and 6 g lighter at 202g vs 208 for the XS Max.

Or maybe you’re just talking about the display? Not sure, the physical size was topic upthread.

Oh, that's right. I was confused a little confused. You're right. The removal of the bezels makes up for the extra display area.

I have the 7 and it is indeed great - but the 8 is overall better (and I don't have an 8).

But why do you think the iPhone 8 is ‘better’? (I.e Because of wireless charging, A11 processor, true tone etc?). I think both phones are fairly similar, and if I owned an iPhone 7, I wouldn’t transition to the 8, as they are too much alike. I Agree the iPhone 8 is a nice phone, but I think it’s more of a lateral grade versus upgrade in my opinion.

I have the 7 Plus still and while the A11 is faster, the main thing I would want from the 8 Plus is Portrait Lighting and the depth control that the 7 Plus lacks. I also think the Portrait mode on the 8 Plus/X performs better on the edges of the subject. Unless you have the right lighting and get the right shot, it can be a little bad on the 7 Plus.

As far as wireless charging, I rarely couldn't care for it.

I have an SE and if the iPhone 8 is the last "small" phone with touch ID left when it is time to get a new one, I would get the 8.
Same. I'd like to go up from my current 64GB to 128GB, though, so once those come into stock as refurbs I'll probably bite the bullet, relucatantly. Or maybe I'll keep rolling with my SE. There's nothing wrong with it but I'm a sucker for a new gadget.

refurb electronics - you are buying somebody elses problem

I take it you've never bought an offical Apple refurbished product. Same warranty, same everything. Nearly every Apple product I've ever bought has been bought this way and I've never seen a single sign of wear or any defect. The one and only "tell" is that it comes in a somewhat plainer (but still nice) box and costs less money.

Now, products refurbished by someone besides Apple? That's where you have to be more careful.

Until a couple months ago, they were selling iPhone SEs and 6S’, where were you then?

This is an article about the 8/8S entry in the refurb store, OF COURSE there are going to be price comparisons here.

Your arguments are all over the place - PooPooing “old” phones, championing the rich, and touting capitalism. Are you going to start telling us about your multiple economics degrees next?

Why? Silly comparison.

Pay attention to my arguments...they are always the same and the goal is to debunk speculation and anecdotal arguments running rampant here.

+1. I've bought numerous Apple refurb products and never had a problem. I defy anyone to put a refurb iPhone next to a new one and be able to tell the difference.

As for 3rd parties, it always makes me angry when I see 3rd party ads saying they're selling "refurbished" Apple products. That normally means they turned it on for 5 seconds. If the screen worked it was now "refurbished". If it doesn't have a full 1-year warranty from Apple then it's "used" or "open box" or "pre-owned" but it sure as hell ain't "refurbished".

Yeah, good luck on eBay. Many of those “dealers” rate their stock very generously in their favor. Used to be you could get a good used phone on eBay, but I don’t even try anymore.

I bought a refurbished iphone 8 plus from apple online about a month ago. Im confused why the MR article says they are just now starting to sell them.

Weird how us Canadians have been able to buy unlocked iphones from the Apple store since the 3G was the first released here but we've never been able to buy refurbished iphones. weird.

Starting and ending this paragraph with “weird” was also a little strange Lol. :)
